Dawnguard and Future DLC Discussion - Thread #32

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 10:36 am

Not true, i quote from Todd Howard, when asked about Skyrim DLC, "We have high ambitions for DLC in Skyrim. They won't be quite as big as Shivering Isles, but Will be larger then the DLC in Fallout 3. We will also have numerous DLC's like what we did with Fallout".

So i would expect a new land, new armours, weapons, and game changing things. With a whole new storyline and lots of side quest.

Considering people that have gone outside the standard map of skyrim and seen areas that look like Cyrodil and other lands, I'd say you're probably right.

I think it'd be cool if dirt was automatic and you could wash it off like drinking water in FO3.
That would actually be better but I doubt that they will add it to the game as a feature seeing as to how they gave us levels to set.

Considering how many people have complained about spellmaking, it'd be dumb of them not to include it in DLC. I could even see it being one of the hyped features they talk about at E3.
I certainly hole we get spell creation as that was the center the focus of the system, it gave you the tools to create spells for your character it added richness and customization to the entire system, also I hope we get all our spell effects back at least all the ones since Morrowind. If these two things happen I will be satisfied with the magic system but as it is its a husk of what the system once was.

i support spellmaking always enjoyed it in Oblivion and i'm interested to see how crossbows performs in the DLC if they're are in, most likely slower but more powerful bows but i think i'll enjoy using them.

Yea, one of the reasons I make so many characters is to do it differently ever time and use different weapons and armour. I did the same for spells in Oblivion and I think I would made so many more pure mages in Skyrim if I could make my own spells.
Also I would like to see what mods do to them, as mods really expanded the smithing in this game. Adding all the equipment people could not get without console for instance. So a mod giving us freedom on spell making would be great. But first we need it, so come one Beth, please give it us in the DLC.

Has anyone else stumbled upon this? If you install the 1.6 beta patch and do a saveini console command (which forces the game to create an .ini file with ALL the configurable settings), some VERY interesting settings pop up:

[general]
fPlayerFlyingMountBaseTargetSpeed=700.0000

[Verlet]
bUseConstantStepDelta=1
bUseRotationBasedTransformUpdate=1
uiNumIter=50
fGravity=-1500.0000
uCapeClothNumPin=12
fVerticalCapsuleOffset=50.0000

Does this mean that FLYING DRAGON MOUNTS (!!!) and verlet integration (think flails and morningstars, capes, 'bendable' trees, flabby giants) are confirmed? I think so. Any .ini setting means that the game already has relevant code regarding them... all we need is the Dawnguard DLC to actually add the content.

For those skeptical about it: the law of conservation applies. Why would Bethesda deliberately add stuff to the game (that's pretty much inaccessible right now) that's nearly undiscoverable... if not for Dawnguard? It's not uncommon to 'prep' the game code before a DLC comes. Remember that the Construction Kit got broken with patch 1.6 due to new subrecords and headers added to base game files.

Also, remember that we already have the following things from the GameJam:
1. Ranged killcams
2. Enhanced underwater effects
3. Kinect support
4. Mounted combat.

This is a very promising find IMO. This means that we could see even MORE of the gamejam goodies in upcoming patches and DLC.

They can put flying dragon mounts in the game, that's fine.
I just won't use them.

One word... WOW!! Beyond some placeholder animation stuff, we're now seeing actual evidence of the game code changes for Dawnguard. I would gladly pay for DLC if it ONLY had flying dragon mounts... But think of what has been discovered so far by datamining: snow elves, vampire lords, crossbows, and now possibly dragon mounts and flails! This is content overload :D :D :D

i love all this datamined stuff, i'd love it if included. just think of one thing.
apparantly Valve one put "leaked" coding in their files for a game (TF2?), and players discovered it. turns out, Valve was trolling. is it possible that Beth are doing the same thing?
anyways, dragon mounts would be epic.

I just hope Bethesda doesn't make Dawnguard this Dawn Era crap everyone is talking about. Vampires are much more interesting.

Yea valve does a lot of trolling.

about a week ago a portal website popped up that had references to half life 3 in the HTML code. After the fans speculated for about 5 hours the code was changed to "this line is a placeholder for an ambiguous name that will make everybody flip out." and then the site was closed.

Later research found Gabe Newell (Valves lead Dev) was behind the whole thing.

Only a week left...

the anticipation in going to be driving me nuts! I hope they actually give us a LOT of info on Dawnguard after messing with us so much over the last few months. At least a good trailer showing some new features.

Screw steam. This is America. I can go buy a disc in 10 minutes.
...and you'll still require to install Steam. :D

America or not, it looks like you'll spend more time waiting for the game and patches to install than going to the nearest shop

PS: still more 9 days to go before the E3

Calling it now that since they're bringing stuff back, its gonna cause one hell of a slippery slope and more arguments of "they brought back this, why not that!"

calling it now, I want mah money when I'm right.

Good point. It's either 'They changed it now it svcks' or 'They didn't change anything, that svcks' with game sequels anyway. Almost 90% of the complaints I've seen for Skyrim, Oblivion and Morrowind fell into this category. Just goes to show that you cannot please everyone. But between you and me, I'd be pretty damn satisfied with all those extra content that the datamined stuff indicates. Skyrim is already a content-rich game to begin with. Other games feel like reading a short story now. Skyrim feels like an epic novel that just goes on and on.... :D

Regarding the trolling stuff... Bethesda isn't really as conniving as Valve :P But IF they ARE, then we should be afraid, very very afraid... because all these datamined stuff are buried so deep inside the game data files (and now the Skyrim .exe file!) that it goes above and beyond some mere 'easter egg' in a webpage HTML comments. It just seems too much effort to compile the Skyrim .exe with all this new data, just to troll us. The simplest explanation is probably also the truth: all the stuff we've discovered datamining WILL be included in Dawnguard.

I for one would LOVE to see flails and morningstars. They looked better than spears in the gamejam video. Verlet integration means more realistic flowing capes and flags too. And the new animation .hkx files indicate mounted combat with crossbows. That's really badass :woot:

Flying mounts would be awesome, but I wouldn't give that much on this line in the ini, since the flying mount already is in. Don't want to spoil anything, but those who played the main quest should know about it.

Do you have to install steam to play Skyrim on PC? Cause that would be a deal breaker.

Oh you mean to get the patches. Well damn. I havent been a pc gamer since... Age of Mythology. I have Starcraft 2 but its so huge it doesnt have to associate itself with steam.

Well, I'll probably have GoTY by then so I won't need steam.

Yes, Steam is used as DRM even of you buy the boxed version of Skyrim.
