Dawnguard: Block Out the Sun

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 5:42 am

There are some players who might prefer this, and I think myself included (still somewhat unsure of how I feel about the notion of perpetual night); it's a huge impact on the world. It'd be nice to see how everyone deals with it.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the actual outcome is something that makes vampires immune to sunlight, which would actually be a smart move: vampires depend on people for food, and just taking over all of Tamriel like that and letting vampires run wild would be bad for everyone.

I learned this from Sorin Markov of Magic: The Gathering, the greatest vampire who ever lived.

These vampires live under frozen lakes. I doubt oxygen is needed. They can also feed on the blood of other vampires. No need for beast/mer/men anymore.

No sunlight means no (continuous) plants - atmosphere - water

Vampires would die too.

I approve of blocking out the sun my character is a follower of molag bal and blocking out the sun will cause strife and disorder and if loads of things die during that time molag bal's realm will get a swell of souls if everything dies? Thats even better since he gets even MORE souls!

30 days until they begin development on the DLC for PC & PS3. Right now only the Xbox version is in beta. After 30 days they'll look at the numbers and see if it's worth it money wise to make versions for other platforms or not. Very earliest PS3 & PC could expect Dawnguard is around Christmas time.
If the versions were ready then Todd would have said "30 days after the release of Dawnguard on XBox." He avoided the question which leads to the above theory that it's not being developed until the 30 days are up from Xbox.
This is just...

On topic:
Who cares how long it is? Vamps in Skyrim don't take sun damage anyway. Sadly, that ended with Oblivion.

Actually they could make it perminate and not have it screw up the next TES

All they need to do is have it so in the DLC playing through dawn guard side the sun Actauly does get blocked out, then you defeat the camps and unblock it.

This way in both stories the sun is blocked
The dawn guard being a secret group don't say publicly that they were responsible for bring back the sun

This way history has the sun being blocked out for a time..........and here's the kicker you have the thalmor take responsibility for restoring the sun

This way it doesnt affect anything in game but at the same time drastically effects your individual player's story.

Role play someone who hates the thalmor and to him it highlights that they are frauds first claiming to restore the moons then the sun.

Role play a pro thalmor and they brought both the moons and the sun back proving how great they are.

This way both options are accounted for without the need for a dragon break.

Dawn guard side god damned thalmor take credit for your victory

Vamp side we were successful for a time but those god damned thalmor intervened some time later.

And before you ask....... Due to the civil war in slyrim along with the effects of dragons returning and the general unrest through the empire exact dates and evidence of how long the sun was block is unclear, Some even claim it was myth purported by the thalmor themselves.

I've always thought that Beth had to be careful with dlc and particularly player choice. In games like fallout, each game is set in the same world, but doesn't have too much lore bridging between the multiple games. Perhaps it's bias but I've been thinking that the elder scrolls doesn't have massive player choices because the devs have to continue a the overall lore in future games. "in 4e 201, the sun might or might not have been blacked out." seems kind of cheap to me

You obviously arent familiar with the Warp in the West?

Considering how the moons vanished for a few years, I see no reason why the sun can't be blocked out for a while. Not all the way, as life would sort of die without it, but enough to where it no longer hinders vampires. The problem is how they are going to explain all of these multiple choices in future games' lore. Are they going to go with another Dragon Break? And lo, the sun was simultaneously blocked and unblocked at the same time.

I refer you to the game Daggerfall.
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Books:The_Daggerfall_Chronicles/Narrative
Note the SIX posible endings, which lead to the dragon break event known as "the warp in the west" that re-wrote and mashed up the time line for the region.

Dragon break events are often caused by elderscrolls. (hint hint)

Well it looks like there is a solar eclipse with the sun looking blood red. I am hoping it IS eternal night. There will probably still be a day/night cycle of course, but it probably wont get lighter than dawn or dusk.. I am just assuming the last part. I AM pretty sure the change would be perminant, unless it does last a few days. Maybe you get an elder scroll that when read, block the sun for a day at a time.
