Dawnguard June 26 10-20 hours

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 12:27 am

Hi there Tesclo!

Sure. But was isthe rationale behind the price tag, consideing the original costs 60$?

Gonna be picky here, but this is unneeded on a forum. Kinda silly

lol you people are so funny.

I didn't finish the main quest. I got up to Dragon Rising, and stopped there(guess why, as thats all I wanted).

Gonna do the same with dawnguard - become vampire lord, forget that place and head back to vanilla skyrim and destroy everything.

Come on now, you all know you're gonna do it. It's gonna take you months to finish the storyline

No, it is not huge, though it's priced as if it is. Skyrim is hundreds of hours worth of gameplay. Dawnguard costs 1/3 of the original price tag and we do not get 1/3 of its gameplay hours, not even close.

I think you are approaching this like a linear game, where you pay $X and go on a mission to some dungeon and perhaps get a new companion and that's it.

This DLC will enhance the gameplay in the rest of the world, which is something you can't exactly measure in terms of hours.

Let's say a typical playthrough of Skyrim lasts somewhere around 100-200 hours for most people. For many of us, this DLC will make it really enjoyable to do two completely new playthroughs, one siding with the Dawnguard and another siding with the Volkihar. That is a great value IMHO, and I imagine we are going to enjoy playing a werewolf or vampire and leveling all the perks and abilities you get over the course of a complete playthrough.

So the DLC costs what? 1600 msp?
That's what? 2 films at the pictures?
Unless you're watching something like Lord Of the Rings going to the pictures twice gives you around 3 hours of entertainment.
3 hours vs 10-20 hours.
I'd say that the amount of money for entertainment is pretty much worth it.

Again, going to the pictures twice: around 3 hours, give or take.
Buying this DLC: 10-20 hours, which can be replayed in different ways, so it can be up to 60 hours depending on how you play it.

It's not short.

Shivering isles was considered a expansion pack, not dlc. For dlc, Dawnguard is pretty huge and long.
Todd did say that Dawnguard was going to be more of an expansion though.

I was going to say something similar but you have said it best

I suspect if there is a bigger dlc it will be released later, it takes time as it did with SI so it makes sense the first release was smaller than what many people expected

Exactly..people buy call of blops and get a 8 hour campaign for 60 bucks. This DLC is more than worth the 20 bucks and has enough content for more than 20 hours.

CoD has multiplayer.

Cant really compare the two games.

Its pretty difficult to measure in hours the length of a dlc. The number of quests would probably give a more accurate, albeit still approximate, idea of its length. They said Knights of the Nine was 10 hours, but it certainly didn't take 10 hours for me, it took maybe an afternoon, or about 5 hours for me, and I don't rush or anything. I hope it will be worth the $20, because or else Im probably going to wait until/if the price drops.

Well, I think Todd's obvious self-consciousness about the price point is illustrative. He felt compelled to insinuate future DLC packs will be cheaper. Now, about your point. I'm not disputing that. But that derives from the nature of the game itself, not from the nature of this particular DLC. No matter how one compts the costs - development time, hours of gameplay provided, landmass - there is simply no reason to charge for 1/3 of the original price tag.

How does one estimate game play hours for a project like this? Is it just to do the main quest? Or to do all quest content? To play both sides? What about features that can be used in the main game like weapons, powers, etc. - how do you estimate game hours for that?

Also, Skyrim is an open game where people have vastly different play-times for their characters. I'm not prepared to judge an estimate if I don't know what kind of playstyle it describes. Did they just say 10-20 hours, or did they explain what kind of players those estimates are for? Is the talk online somewhere so I can judge for myself?

Maybe the main quest of SI but if you explored the world and did the misc quests you could easily reach 30 hours I think

Yes, people complain because we were told we would be receiving huge expansions on scale with SI, not some mini-questline.

Of course I'm buying it, it looks wonderful, I just don't care for being told something and it not happen.
They never said that. They said that they weren't going to just release little tidbits like with Fallout 3. There's more meat on these "expansions", but it's still not as big as something like the SI.
But still, 10-20 hours of content. Color me excited.

how are we not getting a big expanison?
mounted combat
lycanthropy and vampirism questline
2 "new" factions that you can choose from
new weapons
new shouts
new mounts
also 10-20 hours of gameplay!
dont try to compare this DLC to shivering isles when its more like knights of the nine. which i was able to complete knights of the nine in about 2 hours 30 minutes.
