Did you guys hear? Kinect will change your gameplay experien

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 7:34 pm

Too much advertising is always bad as it gets annoying, but the "it changes your gameplay experience" is certainly true. I'm not sure if it's worth Kinect's cost though. Or if it even works properly.

I play Skyrim on PC with a voice control mod. It works and improves the experience. I don't even want to play anymore without it. Nothing is worse than having to pause the game during battle and go into a menu. It's more natural to launch a shout with my voice than holding down a button. Shouting also makes me feel like a Dragonborn. Oh, and it's even fun to learn the shouts.

Although the sensor comes with 3 games in the package my family bought, id definetely say its not worth the $140 we paid for it. Mainly because we've purchased several other games. It came with Fruit Ninja Kinect, though, which is very fun

I "borrowed" my niece's kinect to try out Skyrim out of curiosity, and I have to say that the thing is utter garbage. I took it off after half an hour. It really is a chore talking to your TV and waving your arms around. It is so much better to just press a button. Maybe I belong to an older generation that cannot appreciate the thing, but for me the point of controllers is to be as un-intrusive to the gaming experience as possible. Kinect is the exact opposite of that principle. Total immersion breaker for me.
Its actually not just you. I've played consoles since the PS2 days, so Im pretty old fashioned. Penny-arcade's extra credits had a very good video explaining why the Kinect has not been able to connect with gamers, no pun intented. They pretty much point out exactly what you're saying, that taking a controller away takes away that feeling that you are the character on the screen.

I completely agree. And trust me, I own the sensor. I've used the voice tracking for both Skyrim and ME3, and in both instances I've came away disappointed. The "Better with Kinect" is just advertising sham by Microsoft. In the ME3 "Better with Kinect" trailer, they say "ME3 is Better with Kinect" like 10 times. Ill give you a link if you want a laugh.

In me 3 I didn't use the power wheel until the last mission (right after the AA reaper). I did like it, the game was more flowing and fun. So imho it was better with kinect. But I don't know how it works on skyrim. And I admit that it is just a caprice.P.s.: The difficulty was insanity.

It was probably VERY helpful on Insanity. I've only beaten the game on Normal  My friends say that ME3 is much easier on Insanity than ME2 though. That Normal playthrough with my Infiltator was just see how good the Black Widow was. I took out a Harvester in 3 shots

True. Its not like I bought a Kinect. My family member did  But it still makes me feel bad that she spent a large amount of money and at times comes away frustrated and disappointed

Yup. I enjoy it immensely. I bought a Kinect for my son, and he and I have gotten our $100 of fun out of it and more so. Would I abandon my controller in favour of arm-flailing and yelling? Hell no! But they did a great job with the voice commands for Skyrim and it has enhanced my personal experience.

My mom always said, "don't bash something till you try it." You might (God forbid) like it. :D

Yeah I'm getting sick of seeing "Better with Kinect" when it actually ins't. Wow I can do shouts with my own voice, yeah and look like an idiot. Kinect is for lazy people who are too lazy to use a controller. (Unless they are disabled which is fair enough)

Yes I've tried a kinect, I don't see the "hyped" up appeal that it gets. I prefer to use a normal controller anyway.

Okay I understand it's about getting you off the chair, and moving around. That's a good thing, however it's being pushed onto people who don't want it I think. At £!50 alone for the kinect .... yeah as if.

Microsoft is pissing me off at the moment, and now all we're gonna hear is about "Smart Glass" ..... "Better with Smart Glass... if you can afford an expensive tablet"

That was how I felt about Kinect. Then I tried Fruit Ninja Kinect. The reason I like it so much is because I feel like my actions are represented on screen. That, and slicing up delicious fruit is very fun  Better than slicing up other things

I think this is going to be my selling point for Kinect, actually. It'll give me a reason to yell loud and frighten everyone in my house without my wife having an excuse to get mad. I'm just playing a game, after all. It would also make this game so much more fun to play while I'm hanging out with the guys and drinking.

When the Kinect http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEfcx5cFajM&feature=related I will start to use it for Skyrim again. But as it stands the Kinect has a rather hard time understanding me, so it belongs to the kids until then.

It can't understand canadians or texans. We need to stick together to keep those d*** yankees from making us speak like they do.

Yeah - sometimes it has a hard time understanding my "Canadian" accent. I'm saying "about" you bastards, not "a-boot"! :D

I find it pretty hard to keep an American accent up in order to use the kinect, as you heard in the link us Newfies sound very irish and most people have a hard time understanding us let alone a machine
P.S I'll never give in and start to talk like them :bunny:

Down here in Texas we laugh at Yankee accents. We love Canadian, British, and Australian accents. You can get a lot of girls with a good British accent in Texas
O, and remember the Paso commercial about the guy who gets his from New York. Yep, that's basically how we treat Yankees when they come down here

It's called advertising, and it's smart.

Personally i prefer to ignore it.

Funny but true story, i started muting the tv during commercials after seeing Fight Club years ago. Commercials are pretty funny when you cut off the sound :lmao:

It did the best explanation I've ever seen about the subject. They even used fancy scientific terminology. Their video about hateful nastiness among some members of the gaming community is also very good.

Nice so I'm a cool nerd  we don't do it the way they did back when, but we still make our own armors and weapons :bunny: still hurts when you get struck  Outside of Skyrim, I do think Kinect is a good idea for kids It's quite the workout and improves motor skills and encourages team work and healthy competition.
ah but there are still some of us that do dressing-up-in-armour-and -hitting-each-other-very-hard-with-big-lumps-of-steel the old way! steel armour, steel weapons and full contact.well, leastwise in england we do.
cant be bothered with silly kinect, get kids off fat behinds, give 'em a sword and make 'em fight! doesnt hurt my young nephews any.
dont want microsofts silly advertising as they are a dogs bum with a hat on. cheers

I actually learned something in sophomore year. We did a short bit on advertising in that class. I learned about product placement and how "if they don't mention the item at full price, its likely expensive"

The president of the club im in at school introduced me to penny-arcade. He's introduced me to a lot of very good things. I'm even VP of the club now! Granted, he gets a lot more accomplished than I do. Im way too forgetful sometimes
