I doubt that Obsidian just started working on it. Bethesda isnt Lucasarts for Chris sakes!
This isn't just one company doling out their IP to a noname to do the havy lifting, this
is fan service for both fans who work for Bethesda and those that don't. Having read
several Van Buren docs, I have great confidence in the new games direction. I also
expect it to be very buggy and have a disappearing vehicle you could store your
radscorpion pincers in.

I hope there will be a quest to have a car or even better: a motorcycle. Just like in the previous fallout (car). I think it'll be much fun to cross around the wastelands, armoring your motorcycle with metal plates you find and putting spikes on the sides of the wheel, dismembering raiders legs. And don't forget the additional carriage on your motorcycle. Yes I totally see this happening, good potential.

OMG!!! Even if it was terribly glitchy I would literally die to see this.(yes, literally)
Mod-able vehicles!! And, like 2, you could scavenge/buy engine parts for added
performance... Oblivion does get horses and horse armor afterall...

Yeah some sidequests to upgrade your motorcycle...cool! Imagine riding in a ruined city with hordes of ghouls and raiders running to you desperate to kill you for your loot. Or raider gangs that have their own vehicles to chase you and try to hunt you down. With a follower behind the wheel you could nuke them out of their cars wooooooooooohoo!

As I stated in an earlier thread, just look at J.E.Sawyer's twitter feed, his first mysterious ramblings about Las Vegas started more than two months prior to this announcement. ^_^

That might have been the business side of things rather than any actual development, but they could at least generate ideas so it might have been useful time. As for Bethesda not being LucasArts, wait until the release date they want gets close, then we'll see.

So, instead of ripping off Fallout 1&2, you want them to rip off GTA?

Great idea, I'm sure the fans will really be happy about that!

LucasArts was a different deal, I think. They changed their minds and went for a Christmas release for KOTOR II, pushing it back. Didn't they?

If not, well. There is such a thing as getting your work done on time. If Obsidian knows when their work is supposed to be done, then they should get it finished by the deadline, like any professional.

That was my point, Bethesda may very well rush it as well as LucasArts did.

It depends on what you mean by "rushed", though. If Bethesda has given them a one-year timeframe, then Obsidian should manage their time accordingly. As long as Bethesda doesn't push the expected release back on the developers, then they knew what they were getting into when they signed onto a one-year development deal.

Bike idea is great, forget the car. Get a mount in the form of a bike. Make it look rough, hand-made and oh so modded. Not fossil fuel based though. Perhaps a battery that can use multiple forms of juice to power it and you could also have you go home to charge the bike at the solar panel generator. Or something.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but will we be getting a Fallout: New Vegas forum here... or over on Obsidian?

It just seems odd to post question about F:NV in the Fallout Series General Discussion.

Thanks.

Gallaen, what need for a separate forum when we have so very little information to go on? If you took away the 3 most prolific posters, we'd still be on the 2nd thread.

New Vegas will eventually get it's own forum, but we don't have a time table for that. TES IV and FO3 didn't get sections until shortly before the respective games were unveiled, although I don't know if FONV will follow this precedent.

Lol, not all games with vehicles are GTA rip offs XD. I'm just suggesting one motorcycle/car you get from a quest and which you can armor with steel plates you find, fallout 2 had a car too, so why not do this in this game too, I think it would be awesome and nothing like GTA.

The Hanged Man as a companion in New Vegas, how awesome would that be?

Hanged man definitely. He sounded awesome. They should keep him as they were going to do in Van Buren, appearance wise (Covered in bandages from head to toe) and finding him aswell. Like make him new vegas's version of Charon, but evil. So you cut him down, and he swears loyalty or whatever.

Well, on one hand, I'd love to see him, as he's an awesome character. On the other, I don't think it would do him justice to include him without both the New Canaan Mormons and Caesar's Legions being included, since all of his backstory would be missing.

They could probably get away with it without the Mormons, buy yeah, the Legion would definitley have to play a part.

Well, there could be a Mormon mission in New Vegas too. Given that FO3 has direct references to Christianity, I don't see why Mormonism could not be included in NV.

I don't think they would risk it.

By "them" do you mean Obsidian or Bethesda?

I'm guessing Obsidian. It wouldn't be so much of a risk if Bethesda done it, they own the content.

Well, people now at Obsidian (particularly JE Sawyer, who wrote New Canaan) already did it once. So if anyone wouldn't want to risk it (by it, I mean a controversial religious topic), it would more likely be Bethesda, telling Obsidian to cut it.
