Football Thread - World Cup Special III

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:34 am

The only people as passionate as romanians about football are the people from the UK.

We did not even qualify.

Actually -- most of Europe, South America and parts of Asia are extremely passionate about football.

But WE Invented it.

I'm not trying to say that I thought they were the best team on the cup, but everyone was talking crap about them. Our commentator even claimed that some people wrote a program which, based on a huge amount of data, calculated the probability for each team on the cup to win the first place, and that the result was that Brazil was on the top and North Korea on the bottom, with exactly 0.0% chance. Suuure... I mean, I don't think they have much chance, but this match shows that they aren't exactly trash.

Until they can program human thought passion ingenuity emotion and a number of human variables statistics wont be able to accurately predict squat about sport.

Is it just me or is the ITV player on their website now really really bad. I don't know who thought the World Cup would be a good time to try out a new beta, but they need shot. BBC streams run perfectly, but this is stopping to buffer for 3 seconds every 2.

ITV player svcks -- the amount of people bound to be using it (for instance, those who couldnt get a day off work to watch the football.) probably doesnt help with the speed either.

Personally, I think Channel 4 OD provides the best streaming service of any of the main channels here in the UK

Today could be a day with plenty of goals. Chile, who are very attack minde, play a weak Honduras team and Spain play Switzerland. South Africa v Uruguay could be a close game based on the first round of fixtures.

So theoretically it's gonna be a great days footie!

And yes Chile are playing with 8 men forward sometimes, yet have only got one goal so far. But then it makes sense, they have to win this with Switzerland and Spain to come. And get as good a goal difference as possible too.
But the ref is terrible. From the Seychelles apparently.

Chilie are ripping Honduras a new one. And apparently Rangers (who are now no longer up for sale) are after one of the Honduran strikers, which doesn't bode well. Really, I'm just waiting to see Spain though.

What the hell?

No Torres. I know Spain are good but no one can not play Torres.

You can when you have Villa. 4-5-1? Or 4-4-2 with Silva playing up front with Villa? Isn't Torres coming back from an injury too (he always is in my mind)?

He missed the end of the season for Liverpool but they were talking about playing him in the Europa League Final if we got there so it wasn't very serious.

Still, he wont be match fit so there's no point throwing him into what should be a relatively comfortable game.

The depressing thing is, I drew Honduras from the pot luck at work (every one puts money in, picks a flag from a bag, get prizes for worse team best team and 2nd best team.) I was hoping for a strong team so I had a chance of winning the prize, but I got Honduras. Maybe I'll win worse team and double my money.

Whats the score as of now?

Yeah I'm siding with Switzerland too!

I like the Spanish side except for that cheat Busquets.

Just been reading about the match ball on wiki:

The Adidas sponsored Brazilian midfielder Kaká said that "For me, contact with the ball is all-important, and that’s just great with this ball.”[22] The Adidas sponsored Czech goalkeeper Petr Cech had several positive comments about the ball, saying it had good visibility due to the color pattern, that felt good to handle, and when kicked it had good control.[23] The Adidas sponsored English midfielder Frank Lampard called it "A very strong ball, true to hit."[24] The Adidas sponsored German midfielder Michael Ballack said it was "Fantastic, the ball does exactly what I want it to." [25]

Yet another goalless first half, time for Spain to start taking a few chances and showing a bit of flair.
