So, yeah... New things scare me. :)

I'd grown very comfortable with the old forum setup, here - to the extent that I avoided a lot of other forums because they weren't as simple and immediate as the Bethesda forums had always been. Luckily, I've always viewed these forums as a dark grey with white text, so that's not a very big change for me or anything.

I feel a little bad, if I'm being totally honest. It seems like a lot of work went into updating this forum, and I kind of miss a number of things that they changed. For starters, the one thing that I always loved about this forum was that I was able to sort the threads in any given topic according to my whims (specifically, by topics I'd replied to was immensely useful in active areas like community discussion.) I never understood why every forum didn't have that option - and now I can't seem to find anything like that here?

I also kind of always liked the simple design of being able to scroll through all of the sub-forums at once - which is nice if you're like me and you're active in a number of categories.

These are very minor nagging things, obviously. But they're also my honest initial impressions of the new changes. I really want to be able to get behind this new look, but it's going to take some time, and I do miss some of the older options that have always spoiled me here... :)

Why is there no link to community discussion on the main page here http://www.gamesas.com/index.php? I only found it by accident after clicking random links! I hate this! Is there any way to change the look of it?

... another reason to not like the new forum.
Is there some sort of trick to add links to personal messages? Do I have to manually use "[url]" tags?

There should be a little button with an image of a chain and a green plus sign on it. It's in your text formatting bar above the post.

I've had some time to think about it, and I think I could get used to this setup eventually. That doesn't mean I think this was a good change, this setup is less effective and organized (It's obvious that's been a concern, but it's backfired) and the new skins are mostly a much bigger strain on the eyes. The fact that the page isn't filled is also a bit offputting.

The general design is one that I've seen on countless other websites, the previous one was relatively simple, but that's what made it work so well and look good. This trend with a rounded edge box in the middle of the screen filled with gradients just isn't very nice to look at, and it's been done so many times before that all it really accomplishes is making this site blend in with other, similar ones already on the internet. That's not a good thing. I might be overly dramatic here, but I feel this place has been robbed of it's "soul".

That doesn't mean it's horrible, I've certainly seen much, much worse. But I still hold to the opinion that this change wasn't for the better. I can see myself getting used to it only because I enjoy the community here, but when the CD in particular (Where I spend 90% of my forum time) physically hurts to look at then I just can't be here as much as I'd like.

This isn't intended as an insult to anyone or whining. I'm posting this because I think it's necessary for it to be heard...or read, whatever. I realize that it's extremely unlikely that the old look will be brought back, but I for one, would welcome that. As it is now I can barely stand to be here for more than a few minutes at a time, even writing this post is getting very uncomfortable, so I'll sum it up.

I can see myself getting used to this, but it wasn't a good change.

The landing page is for gamesas games - CD is not a game. However, it is linked from all the game sections so by opening one of them gives you the link.

Of course you can just add a bookmark if you want to come here directly avoiding everything else.

The forums have been up for less than 24 hours, Admin and IT have put a lot of work into getting them up and running and I for one are very grateful for the work they have put into them so far.

Yeah there are some problems but they will be resolved over time, it was much better to get the forums back up and running rather than leaving them down for longer.

Let's all try and have a little patience and understanding.

But it doesn't say GAMES in http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?, it just refers to gamesas forums. I think adding a link to Community Discussion would make things easier.

Edit: I can appreciate that it's early days but I was a bit irritated that I couldn't find the forum that I visit the most. Maybe adding a direct link to CD would be helpful :)

Edit 2: When I scroll down on the main pages it stutters and doesn't scroll smoothly. I'm using the latest version of Firefox.

I still fail to understand why you cannot just add a bookmark to your browser. These forums are not about CD, next there will be requests for all the individual forums to be linked on the opening pages and we will end up with a messy landing page - which will be complained about.

Anyways, I am off out for a while to buy my fresh bread (see the other thread). Back in a while. :D

I don't like the new theme. Isn't there any way to revert back?

oh, and by the way.. when will we be able to embed images and upload files to our posts, instead of linking to it?

There's no way to revert back to the old setup.

Even though scrolling is a bit smoother than it was yesterday, it's still blocky on my Opera. That's my biggest gripe with the forum, not including the StalkerBar and fixed witdth (but those will be fixed, I hope). :)

I understand why there is no link to CD on the landing page thing (did right from the start), and agree with the logic. I had no difficulty finding this section.

Of course I can bookmark it. But Community Discussion is a popular part of the forum so I don't see why adding a link to it would be so hard :)

Also I don't think you would be flooded with requests for other links because everything else is related to particular games and can be found within their respective sub forums. CD is not related to any particular game or game series and therefore IMO deserves its very own tasty little link on the main page here http://www.gamesas.com/index.php? :hehe:

Edit: I would just like to point out that this issue is more important than climate change or the global financial crisis

The CD thread has had its share of problems (as stated by the pinned topic by GStaff) and this could be an attempt to lose some people or/and attract less people. Just a guess.

Oh, is there a search button on the mobile site? I know search on this forum was far from even beong average, but I want to see if it's any better.

omg! who designed this crap?
honestly, folks - dark grey writing on black backround? - whoever came up with that idea: don't let them do layouts!

Am I the only one having trouble figuring out which threads have new posts and which ones don't? The tiny little marker for "go to new posts" is, well, tiny. And gray. It blends into the page too well. I miss my bright orange marker. :P

...Also, wow, the reply page (light text on dark background) is making my eyes hurt.

I didn't even know that was ever an option.

I guess I am going to have to get used to not seeing everything in order, I guess it means the fallout and the TES sections will be even more seperatised than they were before.

The stalking bar and the failure to format the zoom properly are still terrible for a system like this, but I see they have improved slightly since yesterday, so I guess they're working on it. For what its worth guys I appreciate you're trying to get the forum working properly but this new update is really a shot in the foot from IPB.

In the posting window, grey text on grey is barely legible. The bright silver of the banners with the black text was better. using similar gradients liek this might look pretty, but nobody can read them.

I imagine most of these things will get fixed (though probably not as much as I like) in the future, and the addition of better skins would help. Perferably one with uniform colours for the whole forum, squarer buttons and no, absloutely no, transparent backgrounds.

Like I said , we appreciate you're just trying to get the forum running smoothly, and hopefully these are just teething problems, but it does feel like the product of an Apple OS. All the really popular sites on the net spurn this black transparency fad in favour of blocky, white backgrounds and obvious buttons, like Youtube, WIkipedia, and so on, for the simple reason that it looks bland but its easier to navigate.

Gentler tones, please.

Reading is the primary use of most websites, and forums are definitely not the exception. :)

I notice how there isn't anything to let you know when something was posted anymore. How am I supposed to know when a thread has been unnaturally risen from the grave and yell out "Necromancy!" now?

I come back after a nice long break, and you guys overhaul the layout! Such nerve! Young people these days!

Jokes aside, is there any way to change the look of the forums? I never liked the default skin for the old forum, and I don't really like the new one either, as all the dark colours make this place look... Well, forbidding. The new forum navigation will take a little getting used to, but it'll prolly be fine (but why is CS in the Oblivion forums?). And, if possible, could you somehow widen the layout to cover the screen?
