Future DLC Suggestions #6

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 6:43 am

well if vehicles were added that would kind of ruin the game's point: survival. if you had something like a tank you'd be pretty much indestructible(unless your enemies all had fat men). You'd just kill all enemies with one hit, even if there were vertibirds. Now if it would be an-all vehicle dlc, then it might work, but only if all your enemies were vehicles themselves. but still, having an all-vehicle dlc would probably get repetitive fast. plus, it would probably get boring, because it would most likely be very linear and straighforward, with little to no exploration elements. if there's one thing i really like about fallout, it's exploration. that, and the story and role-playing elements

Have you played Boarderlands? If so then you'd be able to see how they could make it work.
I think it would work fine if they had made that available in the full game instead of just putting it in a DLC. Unless they made some sort of racing DLC.

Interesting you mention that! I have beaten that game and it's dlc's, up, down, left, right, diagonal, and side-to-side, and I agree with you 100%

Hold right there.:) I also said armored jeep, and what I was thinking about was, you had the option of a companion to drive you, or have them fire their weapons from like the windows or a sunroof, and the vehicle would level with you, and be considered essential, so 1. you don't have to worry about never being able to drive again, and 2. to make sure things aren't too easy, your vehicle levels with you. And it could maybe be temporarily disabled, like a flat tire or something, and could be repaired with the repair or science skill, or with items like scrap metal.
Sort of like the vehicle equivalent of being knocked unconscious.

For example, boone firing a hunting rifle from a window, or ED-E hovering above the sunroof shooting the place up with lazers. Throw grenades out windows, sounds possible to me. And fun/hilarious.

I say this is their chance, Bethesda or whoever's in charge, to do something no one has come to expect from them, and that will most likely make them rich. People like variety, I can't think of much else of a way to bring that to Fallout. This will work, I'm sure.

The game engine wouldn't allow for vehicles.

Not as it is now, at least. I'm sure they could tweak a little here, maybe a little there. For God's sake, they put Liberty Prime in Fallout 3! A vehicle's more complex than that?

Liberty prime was scripted, something like a vehicle that could move nearly everywhere would be impossible unless you railroad it.

Well, it seems like you just solved the problem, whatever railroaded means. The vertibirds in Fallout 3 also appeared randomly in the wastes, so yes they have made vehicles before. You even rode in a vertibird at the end of Broken Steel.

...and the end goal is making the shareholders happy, NOT making the fans happy. One might say that making the fans happy needs to happen in order to make the shareholders happy, but either that's clearly not the case, OR this board is entirely the vocal minority and in no way represents the views of those who regularly purchase video games.

You are probably right, this board probably constitutes the hard core fans and not just fickle buyers in the general public. Possibly the majority of participants here are posting via their Xbox.

That's not how it works, you weren't in a vertibird, you were in like a room which shook slightly and looked like a vertibird. Railroading means you could only travel along set paths, the engine doesn't allow for the wheels to be spinning and whatnot I don't think. It just won't work unless they use a new engine for the next game which they might as Skyrim is using a new one.

The vertibirds are just scripted objects, they fly in a certain path each time, nobodies controlling them. They don't even fly away, the object just shrinks until you can't see it and then despawns.

As much as I would like vehicles in the game as a whole, would it be possible to script them to move everywhere within the confines of the Dlc only? If they make this Dlc, (which I hope to God) couldn't they program it like that during development?

Going back to the primary subject, anybody else have anything to add? Oh yes! I'd like to see a questline where you obtain like a personalized G.E.C.K. and you set off to turn the wastes there full of life again.

You don't like change much, do you? Look at it on a grander scale. Full forests, crystal-clear lakes, un-mutated wildlife. A serene getaway for a while.

And I mean the Area 51 wastes... for now, I don't want to get ahead of myself.

People want things worth their while. That's why Broken steel was such a success. IT WAS NEW. People went cross-eyed over it. And it made the game one of, if not the, top selling games of the year. Repetition is for the clingy. Plus, If this does come out, don't buy it if you don't like it.

If you count ragged, dust colored shrubs, and vault 22's entrance, then yes.

What about the trees in FO2 and all the cacti in New Vegas. Fields of Corn in FO2 and the Farms in FO New Vegas?. Just some small examples.

Fallout 2 is irrelevant here. I am talking about a New Vegas dlc. And, yes those tiny stalks are technically plants, but it looks more like a decimated rice paddy.

It is additionally irrelevant because I am referring to an area that has not ever been created in this series.

Oh, and possibly intact military vehicles! They already put the boomer's bomber in the game, why not something like an armored jeep or tank?

You know how area 51 said to house aliens and their technology? Look a page back and see what I said about that. Should answer your question.
