I have an infuriating friend--a discussion of Dragons and Mo

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 10:30 am

Alright, so, I love Skyrim and everything about it. I mostly enjoy slaying dragons. However, a friend of mine who also loves the game and has been a TES fan since Arena absolutely refuses to kill dragons. She just won't do it. Admittedly, she's obsessed with dragons, but it's to the point to where she won't even touch the main quest because it involves the harming of the scaley beasts.

When I question her about why she won't harm one, she says it's because dragons rightfully own the land and that humans, like Tiber Septim, drove them out. Essentially, the dragons are the native Americans and the Nords are the Europeans that came to steal their land.

Seriously, it's frustrating because she's missing a major part of the game. She won't fight dragons therefore she won't obtain any shouts or complete the main quest. Does anybody agree with her? See where she's coming from? It really is mind boggling, how adamant she is in this decision. To each their own, I guess.

But the native americans live peacefully along side the settlers. Dragons just want to rip them apart.

It's role-playing, is what it is. Has she killed the first dragon yet? If so, she's not officially a Dragonborn yet, so it's not a problem

Well when a dragon flames her to death then she might just fight back. I look at it this way. Dragons are animals who attack innocent people and villages, kill innocent horses and try to kill me. Down they go. Now giants and mammoths I don't attack. They're docile unless you get too close and there is nothing like sneaking up on a couple of mammoths and just watching them. This game is great like that.

Tiber Septim didn't drive them out -- they where gone long before his arrival.

It's natural progression. It would be like saying Dinosaurs "own" the world. They're dead, they died, obviously not 'strong' enough to survive.
So "rightfully" own Skyrim? No. They ruled, they failed, they died. Humans took over, now they are failing and the Thalmor are being all Right Wing. >_>

Just say these Dragons are already dead and a disgrace to honourable Dragons such as Paarthurnax ^_^

I pointed out to her that dragons are evil and all she says is "evil is subjective, to the dragons, Nords and the other races are evil", which reall makes me sigh. But it is a roleplaying game, and I do roleplay myself. So I guess I can't complain.

You know, my Imperial ended up killing Paarthurnax because he respected the Blades and what they stood for. My character didn't like the fact, but he did it with a heavy heart. When I relayed the news to her she genuinely was upset with me.

She is correct about "evil" the older I get the more I see good and evil as a point of view than anything really concrete. Is it evil to kill to survive? Then yes, every species on Earth is evil. If it's kill or be killed then kill and be evil. :)

You know.. I'm liking this. Mayhaps a bit too extreme in her case. However it is nice that someone is emotionally involved in it!
Is she fine with killing furry creatures? If so, I believe I have found someone like me >xD Scales ftw! Fur ftl!

Just tell her that everyone is dragons.

They were all et'ada at one point.

So if she wants to avoid killing dragons, she'll have to avoid killing everything.

I can't believe this, lol. She's also an Argonian extremist, though she's fond of Khajiit as well. She just prefers Argonians. Maybe you two should start talking...

Dragons use to rule the humans that lived there be for. The dragons demanded sacrifices and they would grant certain people powers aka Dragon Priest's and not attack them. But they started demanding to much and the people fought back. Theres one cave were see a burial of sacrficed children and there books all over that really give you more stroy into the time when dragons and people co existed together.

Did you tell her that dragons used to enslave the humans? And I'm fairly sure humans lived there first.

It's more like Dragons were tyrants holding the whole human population in slavery. Then the nords rebelled and killed them all.

Nordic worship of dragons occurred several thousand years before the events of Skyrim. It was at that time that Alduin, the World Eater, had led dragonkind to conquer and subjugate the early peoples of Tamriel under a brutal and oppressive tyranny.

Even so, there were those that chose to worship and serve the dragons and they were rewarded accordingly such as the Dragon Priests. When the Akaviri arrived and the uprising against Alduin began, the end of the cult would soon draw near.

Interesting moral perspective. By what moral authority does she deign that Dragons "rightfully" own the land?

First arrival? So what?
Gift of a higher power? Which power?
Right by might? If so, then why is testing that might immoral?

If she still supports dragons after all this, tell her that the dragons think they're superior for the seam reason the Nazis did. She's not Dragon Hitler, is she?
