Bumping this back up. Since dawnguard is already known and is coming out I think its time to talk about this small piece of rumored "2nd dlc".

Beth DLC have really gone down hill.

A DLC to vampires svcks enough.
Please give us some daedra stuff.

Well blame the fans it's they who want it, many atleast and bethesda knows that and as for Daedra it would be fun.

There is a choice to buy the expansion or not, I for one think it looks interesting.

2920 vol 09 - Hearth Fire: seems to be an imperial story. It mentions Black Marsh, Cyrodiil and High Rock - the latter two multiple times. Also mentions Morrowind a lot.

You need to read the entire 12 volumes of 2920, The Last Year of the First Era in order the know the context. 2920 is an entire story (Historical Fiction) of the events leading up to the Akaviri Born Potentate Versidue Shiae (Spelling?) effectively crowning himself Emperor of Tamriel.

I don't really think the name of the DLC is referencing the book in any significant way.

We only know Hearthfire is a month and that skill book is a part of the 12 volume story that is about the events of the last year in the First Era. I am not convinced they are related.

What Hearthfire contains, if it is Hearthfire that is the name of the DLC which seems likely considering that we heard about Dawnguard the same way some time ago, is entirely up for speculation at this point.

This gives me hope.

Speculating is fun...

Past expansions where named after:

Places: 1 - Shivering islands

Factions 3 - Tribunal, Knights of the Nine and now Dawnguard

Events 1 - Bloodmoon

Hearthfire may be linked to the name of a certain event (past or present) which happens during the month carrying the same name.

Where will it happens and which event, this is only speculation

I sincerely hope we'll see more lands in Tamriel and not some other conveniently made up Oblivion mini-verse. I still believe those roads leading to the borders were created for a purpose because Bethesda had already some vague ideas about the expansions. Otherwise, the complete absence of a road to High Rock (a neighbor province) cannot be explained while there are two roads (paved, even!) to Morrowind and one to Hammerfell or possibly Orsinium

Lord_Sondil, hi there. How's everything?

I agree with you on the part that we need more darkness, but i prefer to be the hero that faces the darkness. Its why i like Bethesda cause they catter to both groups, those that like to be evil, and those that like to be good.

The problem i see with siding with the Thalmor, as much as im for it, is lore. Ussually whoever you side with succedes at there goal, if the Thalmor win, its a complete lore change than if the Empire won.

I'm with you on this. I'm all for a darker, more challenging game. That way, whem I'm through beating the crap out of those dark, darker, darkest enemies, it will be way more satisfying. And me too, I believe Beth should cater to both groups in a symmetric fashion: if one gets more powers, new weapons and armour, so should the other. It doesn't have to be an exact match, but there has to be balance.

Highly doubt it. I'd think it's more likely that it's related to the Thalmor. Esbern tells us that the Great War began in Frostfall, the month immediately after Hearthfire. Perhaps the DLC will include the prequel to a war with the Thalmor?

What I think, basically. The Thalmor are so crucial to the events of Skyrim, and yet you rarely have to fight them, except for a few small bits during the main campaign (and occasionally if you wander into them in the wilds). I can imagine it expanding the current civil war storyline, adding the Thalmor to it. I love the Empire, I really do, but I really want to drive a stake into the heart of whomever runs the Thalmor, and if they made a DLC revolving around them it would mean that I could do just that...

Of course, the cooking perk tree sounds like fun. :P

You know what would be a good story to compliment a visit to Talos? A fight against the Thalmor. ;D

invading the summerset isles decked in divine armor while riding odahviing along with talos riding the spirit of nafaalilargus while a massive nordic armada follows us would be awesome

I think my eyes just broke. ;_; Now I really want to do that.

Alternatively, invading Cyrodil decked in divine elven armour whilst riding Odahviin carrying the head of Talos under your arm while a massive Altmer armada follows you.

Because there's no excuse to not let you side with the Thalmor. ;)

Has Hearthfire, as a month, had any significance in Tamriel's history?
I tried to browse both TIL and UESP but I only came up with some Necromancer recurring event and another one from ther Psiijic Order. Both of these were mentioned in Daggerfall, so it's really old stuff.

Keep in mind that it could be something new that add some depth to existing lore. They could introduce a particular event that happened in Hearthfire sometime in the past and that it's of some significance to people belonging to a certain race/faction/region hence the link to the DLC name and whatever will happen that will involve said group of people and the Dragonborn.

Thanks for digging that up. I somehow get the feeling the 2nd DLC will be necromancer related. From all the interviews it is clear Beth is trying hard to please the fans, of which these foruns could be considered a representative sample. With werewolves and vampires out of the way, the last remaining peristent request seems to be necromancy. I'm ok with that, even if it's not my cup of tea, as long as they move on to new landmass and new gameplay features in sunsequent packs.

As long as it's located in some part of Tamriel (and not in an outer realm), I'm fine with Necromancers ;-)

I really want to see what's beyond that closed gates, you know... :D (now there's only LOD terrain)

Did you watch Matt Carofano's interview where the topic was addressed? He was rather....hesitant and ambigous about going beyond them closed gates. I lean towards an island of some sort as porbable destination. But, frankly, I will welcome any new landmass.

First DLC you encounter the Dawnguard, who try and prevent the vampires from blotting out the sun...

Second DLC introduces you the the Lawnguard, who are concerned the Necromancers will ruin all the grass by raising the dead out of the ground!

I think the new shout that everyone at E3 wouldn't stop talking about would have been better suited for a necromancy expansion than this one, or just putting in new necromancy stuff into this one. It seems like a bad business move to me to double down on the occult/paranormal stuff with two back to back expansions.

No, I haven't but It would make sense that they don't disclose details about future unannounced products. Can you quote the exact words?

After all, if developers listened to fans when implementing vampire related stuff, they should listen the many fans that wanted to return to Morrowind.

I may be grasping, but...

A hearth is a cozy thing at home. A nice fire, relaxation with the family. I'm hoping that a feature in the DLC is an upgrade in features regarding marriage/starting a family.

I think you might want to check it for yourself. I'm not entirely sure which interview it was, but reckon it was the one with the bearded interviewer. Check Matt's body language.
