London Riots

Post » Tue Aug 09, 2011 9:04 pm

As I said earlier in this thread someone has been shot in the head. Generally people don't survive that.

The reports on Sky say shot and injured, so he/she hasn't died yet (hopefully they won't)

Maybe it is what Briton needs (although less looting, more political. Burning down homes isn't nice)

This is definitely not what Britain needs. Why would you even say that!?

Heh. Sky News.

Not on the BBC though. Maybe Sky news lacks sources?

This is worrysome, as my sister is supposed to move temporarily to UK by the end of this month. Sure the riots will be ended by then (i hope), but i doubt the tensions that caused them will go away soon. Obviously svcks for people living there too, hopefully the rioting can be ended quickly and cleanly.

I don't know of the circumstances, but i think for such a riot to begin there has to have been some tensions for a while now.

I'm flicking between the two, it seems no one know exactly what is going on as everyone appears to be spread all over. I do trust the bbc more though

The police are completly out numbered, they have done nothing because they are unable too. It may well fizzle out, but what if it doesn't?

Sending armed troops would not only be dangerous for bystanders, but also political suicide for whoever gives the order. Trying to wield military power like that on the streets of London would instantly turn the people against the government. The Brits have long held a deep suspicion of standing armies in the pocket of the government.

The most bizarre thing about this though is how organised the rioters seem to be, especially when they seem to be stupid hoodie-types. Doesn't seem like we're dealing with Che Guevara here...

Why not? Government ignores peaceful protest. If I wanted to make a point a decent riot would seem like a good start as I am not sure any other way. If something doesn't happen about unemployment and police numbers fall it could be interesting.

Not that these people currently have any political motive whatsoever. You need a cause, flags help. Burning effigies also. But looting. Meh, just disappointing.

They have apparently been planning it over Facebook and twitter. The police are using to track those down that planned it and identify as many as possible. There were reports earlier on bbc news that some of the rioters had walkie talkies  There is a good deal of planning here and the Police were completly unprepared for it.

I leave the country for a couple of weeks and riots break out, I only just heard about this and was very surprised as it seemed to just come out of nowhere. The majority of the violence is most likely the result of opportunists and thugs who are simply looking for an excuse to rob shops and get a kick out of causing destruction.
I hope the police get this under control and guilty individuals get what they deserve. However I also hope that whatever issues existing between the people of north London and the Police are eventually resolved so that this doesn't happen again.

That's the thing - this lot aren't a group of revolutionaries, just dumb yobs out for a thrill and a free tracksuit. The tools are there, but they can't be a 'United Looters Proleteriat Front of Croydon', surely...

Heh. It seems to be far to much for the lols to be honest. Not for any cause. Rioting for a cause is a bit better. Not this though.

That's so insanely stupid of them it's almost funny (it can't be at the moment because the effects of their wanton thuggishness are very real). If it's true though, then let's hope it leads to speedy arrests for all those involved.

It does seem pretty thick to plan a criminal act over a social network site that the police can read and then use as evidence and as a way to track you down, but there you have it.

The dear chavs have just handed evidence to the police for when the time comes that they will face a court of law.

Sky news has CCTV video. Let's hope it doesn't escalate and is just a small skirmish.

With any luck the Police should already be on standby given events elsewhere and be rolling out to snuff it out before it escalates.
