new patch finished

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 3:54 pm

Granted.... I am not particularly singling NV out in the bugs-at-release category, save to say it is one of the worst I have encountered in recent times. In fact you've kind of underlined my point in that we almost expect video games to be unstable at release. I feel somewhat that the ability of consoles in particular to live-update has allowed a certain level of complacency about release stability to creep in. And it seems to be largely accepted and even excused.

I can't hold with that. I do, in fact, think its outrageous.

My personal beef with NV is simple.... I would love to enjoy playing it but the game won't run for long enough for me to achieve anything approaching immersion, which is the whole point of an RPG in my world.

I disagree with your point about the state of NV simply because if you were right, this patch we're waiting for would not be necessary. If it works for you, great, you're lucky but far from being in the majority.

I agree with your first part. The moment DLC was made for consoles it was a slippery slope towards the "push it out, fix it later" mentality that PC has been plagued with over the years. While as a consumer I'm aggravated with the logic, as someone in the business I can see the need to hit certain timeframes to maximize sales. It is a business in the end and all is (usually) forgiven once the patches roll out. This one is on Bethesda pushing the game out before it was ready for release, IMO.

I disagree with your last point because many games receive patches whether they're necessary or not. I believe NV's upcoming patch is needed for those having issues, but with the knowledge of well over a million units sold and only a very minute portion of those sales expressing their issues it's impossible to assume that the issues aren't in the minority of cases.

Update: Sounds like the PS3 update is actually coming out around midnight GMT tonight (so 10/12/10,12:00am GMT). PC Update looking to be up next week.

Awww..... :(
Guess I'll just have to work on my next video for a while instead. I hope someone posts a patch changelog soon tho...

That's disappointing. How did the patch go from possibly being up today to being next week?

Well, at least I won't waste tomorrow waiting again.

I'm beginning to think we'll see Bigfoot before we encounter this alleged patch.

Well, so far after applying the "patch", the Strip hitches more than Stuttering John in a blizzard on PS3, way more than pre-patch.

This better be a preliminary patch, because there's no way 20mb could fix half of what's currently wrong with this game.

This is interesting. How far can they shove it up there and twist it around before it finally breaks off? And when it does, will the apologists still continue apologizing.

I'm waiting with baited breath.

How do you know there will be GOTY? You may get a dlc package but not a GOTY. Besides, My GOTY of FO3 was just as buggy.

Here's everything I've collected about the latest patch, which currently is only live for the PS3 as of this writing. If you have anything concrete to add to this list, please post it.

- Companions now fast travel to the appropriate location when dismissed by the player
- Companions are now marked as indicators on the Pip-Boy map
- Veronica now correctly levels up similar to other companions
- EC/ECP/MC ammo (standard) now has -2 DT
- EC/ECP/MC ammo (over charge) now has -5 DT
- EC/ECP/MC ammo (max charge) now has -10 DT
- Multiplas Rifle now consumes 3 units of ammo per shot (previously 6)
- Plasma Defender now consumes 2 units of ammo per shot (previously 3)
- All reputation safehouses have been updated with additional supplies (armor, weapons, ammunition, skill magazines)
- All-Purpose Science Suit (13 DT, 2 WG, +5 Science) can now be found in the Followers' Safehouse (previously cut content from Fallout 3)
- NCR Ranger Combat Armor can now be found in the NCR Safehouse
- HELIOS One infinite experience exploit has been fixed

Note: Need concrete numbers for the sniper rifle nerf. Have heard the DAM per shot has been lowered from 62 to somewhere in the 40s @ 100 skill. No idea about the crit multiplier or rate of fire.

Sawyer did say awhile back that ammo dt changes were part of it.. some weapons are also tweaked we know the multiplas uses half the ammo it did before and the defender uses 2 charges per shot.. we dont yet know if the damage stats have changed too or firing speed or whatnot.

Looks like I'll have to update my energy mod for this. I hope the changes are made using the regular tools and not hardcoded, though I can't imagine why they would be. That Max Charge DT sounds pretty unbalanced to be honest, I wonder if there's any point using anything but the Laser RCW now.

Still, for all 3 to have exactly the same DT reduction even though the weapons they're used in have wildly different applications is unusual. Also he said the MF breeder was getting DT too. Wonder how much.

This is why I'm grateful my ancient PS3 is not hooked up to PSN, from what I've seen, people across the board are having issues worse than before the patches.
