The game was released on October 19th, 2010...
And the patch is coming out this week or next. So basically, Obsidian needed another 2 months to actually finish the game, but it was decided to stick to the original release date so it could be pushed out before the holiday season. In turn, fans, customers, what have you, get a technical abortion of a game and it's "too bad, so sad" from there because once we crack the seal on it, we own it. Will developers and publishers ever be held accountable for this kind of business practice?
Businesses are held accountable for what they do. It's called profit... If a business makes a habit of screwing over their customers then people will stop buying their product. However, customers also have to hold themselves accountable as well. If you go out and buy something without doing any research into what you're getting, you're in for a gamble. You might get what you wanted and you might not. Many reviews on the game said that the game was buggy and rated the game lower because of that, so it's not like the information wasn't out there. Relying on luck or getting mad at the people who made the product you bought just seems like passing the buck to me.
Are the developers and publishers of video games responsible for the state of their products at the release date? Yes, but the customer is also responsible for choosing whether or not to buy the product in the first place.
