New Vegas - Good or Bad guys?

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 3:31 pm

Not everyone can lead. It takes someone that the group can respect to lead and even then, the leader needs to know what he or she is doing.

I'm not trying to argue, just stating that "Mr. C" is delusional. Caesar now goes by Mr. C and you have to say it like the Fonz.

What is Mr.C's delusion?

(even if I'm far from Fonz... and just trying to figure out if I'm interpreting the word right)

Since that the game yells, !GRAY! all over the Mojave, is hard to believe if the Caesar Legion are pure evil, or the NCR are nice people

That his Neo-Legion is anything like the Rome of antiquity. That even if it was, we don't need an outdated hierarchy. That his Pax Romana will never be realized because some people don't like having their intestines made into Gaelic wind instruments or being crucified. That his "Synthesis" or any synthesis needs any part of his culture absorbed into it. His reluctance to use modern medicines, which the real Rome was always up on. No wine? Then your not Roman /thread.... I could go on...

 I got a kick out of that one. I'm a fellow coffee worshipper though. There isn't a day that goes by without me having a hot cup of coffee.

Both are pretty bad IMO. But NCR is better than the legion. I still side with myself however.

I'm trying to figure out how anyone who visited Nipton becomes an apologist for the Legion.

This is what I've been asking myself throughout the whole thread.

Because not everyone believes crucifixtion is evil especially considering what kind of people the nipton people were.

Basically everyone killed at Nipton was bad.

I know Vulpes Inculta gives the whole "they deserved it because they were heretics" vibe but talking to Boxcars and reading the computer entries in the town hall makes you realize this was a den of snakes.

I guess there were some innocents there also, but it wasn't a nice town.

Crucifixion is a brutal and torturous execution method which nobody (even the most vile of human beings) should have to endure. It true on the other hand that Nipton's population was far from innocent. They were bad people but the punishment was still extreme.

That said, Caesar's Legion is extreme, but I wouldn't call them evil to the core.

Nipton was bad. Mkay? They had prosttutes, and prosttutes are bad. Mkay? They had gamblers too. Gamblers are bad. Mkay? They had some thieves. Thieves are bad, too. Mkay? They also had a store. Stores are bad. Don't go to stores, Mkay?

Spoiler
The Nipton mayor and citizens were also conspiring to lure in a bunch of NCR soldiers in order to rob and kill them and they succeeded. Go to the Nipton Inn or whatever it's called and you'll find a pile of dead NCR troopers in the office.

Legion Justice: Stole that bread because your a starving slave, eh? Time for you to get crucified upside down St. Peter style, then have a Frumentarii go "Buddy Rich" on your posterior...

There's no good in the legion. Not even a gray area. Kidnapping, enslaving, murdering, torturing... That all was 'gray' in 100A.D, but by somewhat modern standards, evil.

The ncr seems to have done some bad things, but I wouldn't label the whole republic and army as being 'bad' or 'evil'. Just some screw ups in an overall positive agenda. I'd label them as good without a doubt.

Boomers? Just a goof on republicans...probably the idea of a liberal developer. If you notice boomer npcs make comments about 'always being a republican' and their goal is to bomb the he1l out of things. Also, if you haven't noticed they are somewhat reclusive and ignorant as to what's going on in the world around them if you pay attention to some of the other dialogue on how they haven't left their base, etc and are content with just building an arsenal. I guess another liberal jab at republicans. I wouldn't label them as good or evil because they're obviously meant to not be taken too seriously. I was also a little angry because I'm a republican myself and the concept of the boomers is a little extreme.

The point was that it's kind of odd trying to minimize Legion evil and paint them as 'grey' (whatever that means) by pointing to the supposed evil of their victims. By what standard do the Niptonites qualify as being bad or evil that the Legion themselves don't meet and exceed in spades? Even the spoilered example of Niptons evil, if I remember right, was something the Legion was involved in from the start.

I'm a far-right conservative and I don't feel that way about the Boomers. They are extreme, but I really don't think that was meant as a jab at Republicans.

Listen to some of the comments made by npcs! "Once a republican, always a republican". Their goal to resurrect a bomber and 'bomb things'. Its without a doubt a goof on republicans.

I suppose I can understand your viewpoint. I'd say that mentality is thanks more to not only the Boomers' history but also Fallout's history as a whole however.

Spoiler
The Boomers came from Vault 34 which was filled to the brim with guns, ammo, and explosive ordinance. They survived the massive nuclear war but always had that arsenal nagging at them to take and use. Just think if you locked one thousand people away in a Vault for decades with an armory that wasn't locked and full of guns... Who in that Vault wouldn't become obsessed with firearms?

As for the Fallout history, the political wings are extremely polarized in that universe. The liberals are nowhere to be seen because America never made it out of the McCarthy era (the communist witch-hunt) and the right-wing became a monstrosity of epic proportions that capitalized on the Red scare tactics of the time with the focus on uniting the world against China instead of the USSR. China is the beacon of communism in that universe and that's where you'll find the ultra-liberal minds of that historical tangent.

I don't know. I just chalked that whole Boomer thing up to Fallout's odd-ness and simplified political history. The USA was the beacon of capitalism (which is associated with the Republican party and most conservatives) and China was the beacon of communism (which is what ultra-liberal's dream of). Also, the whole Fallout universe doesn't exactly try to avoid being offensive either; what with the level of blood, gore, sixual innuendo, foul language, etc. It's not all that surprising that some people wouldn't be offended... But there are also people like me who just laugh at attempts to be offensive because nothing really hits that nerve.

Sorry for the rant, I just wanted to get this out.

Edit: Precisely, Morchai. If you want someone on your side, heavily armed Republicans are a good choice!
