NFL Thread #10

Manning to Washington is a possible fit.

Possible but very unlikely in my eyes. Washington is a terrible organization, they have a horrific O-line, I don't see Shanahan and Manning co-existing, Manninng is more interested in winning than money, the weather is horrible, and I don't think Peyton wants to play in the same division as Eli. I would be shocked if he ended up in Washington.

I think the Colts will regret this.

I don't. They made the right decision based on the available information. He was due $28 million just to be on the roster today and no one knows if he will even be effective, or if he can take a hit. The Colts would not contend for the Super Bowl with Manning so they might as well start over with a clean slate and leave themselves some cap room to kick start teh rebuilding process.

Their fans should be outraged.

Short sighted and myopic* fans maybe, not anyone who understands what it takes to build a winning team in the NFL these days.

* I know they mean the same thing, but it just sounds better with both, rather than just one.

Peyton Manning's release: sound business decision, unsound moral decision. These two things go together pretty dang often.

Am I the only one that would draft RGIII over Luck?

Yes? I don't think that I would do it.

I think Luck is more of a sure thing. I think if it wasn't for the fact that Cam Newton worked out so well, people would be voicing their concerns over RG3 more. Newton seems to have single handedly dispel all the taboos surrounding black QB's.

I think they'll both be elite players, I just think Luck is going to be more of a certainty.

Does anyone think the Rams will actually get their desired two 1st's for the 2nd pick? I only see Washington and the Browns as viable contenders for RG3 and I doubt either will be game for giving away that much. I have a feeling that RG3 might just fall to 4 for the Browns anyway.

I say...

Flynn - 'Skins

Manning - Miami

RG3 - Browns

I'll take that bet in a heartbeat. I am not very optimistic about RGIII, though I have been wrong many times.

So looks like we have finally made the move and gone after a QB. Might be giving up a bit too much but considering it's been some time since there has a been a good QB in DC I think it could be worth it.

3 First round picks!?!?!? The Rams are definitely high 5'ing right now. They can build a dynasty with 2 firsts per draft for 2 years after this draft. I think the Skins are in a hell of a lot trouble seeing as they don't have any good WR's, no decent running back and a poor O-line.

Good luck RG3, you'll need it.

Yes the Rams made off with 2 extra first rounders but the Skins aren't in as bad of a situation as you make it sound. They have [censored] ton of money to spend on one of the many good WR free agents out there like Colston or Jackson. Add that to Moss, Davis, and everything else they have that's solid. And where where you all season? The Skins may not have a AP or Ray Rice caliber RB but they have a solid group back there with Hightower, Helu, and Royster. All of them had good seasons and Shanahan likes to mix up the run a lot anyway. Yes there O-line is weak but with RGIII's ability to extend the play and some solid receiving I think they're in decent shape. And don't forget about that defense they have, it's beastly and only going to get better with young guys like Ryan Kerrigan and Jarvis Jenkins. The Skins are in a much better position then they have been in years and I'm just happy they finally have a promising QB.

Oh and P.S. http://thebiglead.fantasysportsven.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/laron-landry.jpg

I've been doing some research since I've posted that and I'm coming round to the idea of this trade. It's clear that the Skins needed a change. You can'r do anything nowadays without an elite QB, so going for such a talent like RG3 makes sense. I don't like any of the FA guys apart from Mike Wallace. They badly need help at WR and OL.

As long as they can get one big time WR to go along with Moss and Davis, I think they'll be ok.

We have Christian Ponder, I can't judge. I do hope he works out though.

You still want that bet now that he is a Redskin? DC, the place NFL careers go to die.

Definitely. Better defense, arguably better offense.

I think they gave up too much though.

'Skins have a terrible offense. I've always found them so dull to watch. That division will be tough for RG3 too.

Free Agency starts at 4,Colston has already decided to stay in New Orleans so that leaves the Skins with one less option at WR.

So glad to get Colston back, he deserved it. Plus, I don't have to throw away my jersey!

My predictions for who Dallas will sign:

LaRon Landry: I want this more than it is likely to happen. :(
Brandon Carr: Him or Finnegan would make sense.
Matt Leinhart: Need a back-up.
Carl Nicks: Him or Grubbs

I know that they will not sign all of these guys, but Newman will be released so that frees up some cap space. I want these players more than the Cowboys can logically afford to pay.

Especially now that the cowboys have 18 million less cap space than anyone else.

18 million?

From what I understand is they owe $10 million total, spread out over the next two years. The Redskins owe I think $36 million or something close to that over the next two seasons. The total sum will be divided evenly amongst 28 teams. Two other teams, Raiders and the Saints will be excluded from the benefit. So the Cowboys will be minus $5 million this year. Unless I missed something.

EDIT: The team released a statement yesterday and that's where I read it. http://www.dallascowboys.com/news/news.cfm?id=096E5F45-F084-176D-D2660CF8456CF575

I'd be amazed if the Skins and the Cowboys don't fight this tooth and nail. It seems like the League said "no cap this year!" but is actually trying to enforce a cap. The players won't be happy with this either. But for the Skins, they seem to have enough space anyway so they don't have to worry too much about it.

I hope that the Patriots do something flashy on the defensive side of the ball. Defending the run is so last-decade, we need some pass defense up in hurr!

It will be fought. I kept hearing the word "collusion" and I'm not expert of what that means, but I do know it's illegal. :P

Brandon Marshall to the Bears for two 3rd round picks. I wonder what this means for the Peyton circus?
