Now everyone a Vampire Fan ?

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 12:21 pm

Hello there Novalee. Hope you're having a good day.

There's a rather popular mod for that, magicka sabers. ;-)

As for vampires...I liked them when I was a kid. In primary school I was a huge vampire fan, but lost interest at some point. I'm not even sure why. Nowadays I just can't help but roll my eyes and think 'another one?' everytime someone tells me about a new vampire series, book, game or movie. On the other hand, I rarely grow tired of watching zombie movies, so if you like vampires, that's fine with me, we all have our likes and dislikes.
The only thing, that tempts me to make fun of vampire fans is the casanova style vampires. Vampires who are so incredibly sixy and alluring that no one can resist them. It was a ridiculous idea in Bram Stoker's Dracula and it still is. It makes author and readers alike seem desperate, which is why it's unintentionally funny and vampire's shouldn't be unintentionally funny.

I can understand you outgrowing vampires. When one is in his twenties Evil is alluring and flirting with it might lend some benefits to one's social life, till, eventually, one sees it for what it is. Not everyone grows tired of this platonic romance with evil, but most seem to. There is one point on which we disagree. You think casanova style vampires are involuntarily humorous. Well, the combination of evil and attractiveness is powerfully seducing. There is nothing funny about that.

Hello, how are you?

I don't think liking vampires has anything to do with your real age. I basically outgrew vampires when I began to think about what it is that vampires do, and that can happen long before you turn 20. As a kid I simply saw the amazing powers vampires have, and liked how they only venture out during the night, which I, as a kid, was obviously not allowed to do, and that made it all seem much more mysterious than it really is. That the sun hurts vampires was fun in my eyes too, because it was a bit like playing hide and seek. As I grew older most of that lost it's appeal of course.

For me vampires are not subtle enough to be truly scary. They look like humans but they aren't humans, and when they kill there is nothing whatsoever interesting about the act, because you already know why they are doing it, and you know they will do it again. It lacks the element of surprise. They need the blood. They are bit like cannibals, but they aren't like Hannibal Lecter, because what they do is simply in their nature. They aren't doing anything that crosses a line, because since they aren't humans whatever our social norms dictate doesn't apply to them anyway. Just like you can't blame a tiger for attacking you, you can't blame a vampire for killing people.

As for skyrim's vampires...we'll see. The vampire lord form looks interesting enough, but you basically just transform into a monster and go on a killing spree. It's not exactly my cup of tea but I'm sure I'll try that out, too, even if my main character will side with the Dawnguard or remain neutral.

Hi again.

Certain things tend to loose their appeal once you get past teenagehood, half a decade which bears the internet definition of "the most awkward period of time known to any single person". I'm sure we can all relate to that.

Being a Vampire or being a Werewolf is always something I cured as soon as possible. To me TES games are not "Let's play a monster" games, they are hero games where your character saves the world. They can be a jerk about it, but they are still a hero. That's just me, that's how I play.

Adding more buffs for being a Vampire or Werewolf does absolutely nothing for me. If I wanted to play a vampire there are plenty of other games out there that would let me do it.

To be honest I find it odd that Bethesda is adding so much to being a monster/creature/beast in their games when that has never been what their games are about. I just hope that their next DLC is about something a Hero of Skyrim would be into, since that's what the player is supposed to be.

I'm happy to fight them but I'm not interested in being one.

Bring back the goblins I say. I want to be a goblin lord!

I think you raise an nteresting question. If Dawnguard is an add on more than DLC, in the sense it integrates tightly with the main game, how on earth is a vampire lord supposed to act heroically? So he's going to save the world but kill everyone in it along the way? On tuesdays, the vampire lord goes on a killing spree, on Saturdays he hunts down Alduin in order to save the world. We might hav a bipolar character in our hands.

Being a Dawnguard sounds like being a hero to me. I just hope the powers that come with it are interesting, since I'm not sure that they are.

I have no interest in ever becoming a vampire no matter what superpowers I'm granted. The same applies to Werewolves, which for me is what
Spoiler
ruined the Companions questline for me.

I'll probably fight against the Vampires, unless there is some way that I can still be on the evil side without having to turn over my soul.

List of vampire video games

There are at least 3 games on that list from 2011. I don't think they are RPGs though, but wouldn't know whether that list is complete.

none of those made after 2010 were direct control, decent games. A dlc for a half-assed game (Infamous 2) does not count, platform puzzle games are not games, and tower defense is a template where the theme does not matter. So my point stands: Skyrim is THE game for Vamp fans. The next Vamp game coming out is a terribly graphiced stealth game about a vampire who looks like a regular dude version of Ezio

Hi again.

Could very well be, but the list is, now that I've checked, incomplete. Realize I think you vampire fans are entitled to be catered to. Now after Dawnguard and maybe a 2nd DLC, indeed vampires and werewolves will be out of the way. I think it would be unreasonable for Beth to persist on those themes for more than two DLC packs. Let Betehsda chart brand new territory.

Everybody just needs to stop crying about us nightfolk getting our dlc. If somebody makes a modern Legacy of Kain game then we wont need to use Skyrim as the outlet (even though there is nothing wrong with Vamps being in TES)

Did you think he was crying about the content? His very first sentence about the DLC says you guys should get what you want, but he doesn't feel it should be the theme for the next few expansions. I think that's fair. I'd hate to keep spending money on DLC that kept acting like Vampire Lords were a new thing after Dawnguard.

I think Dawnguard would be a heaven for Vampire Fans after having Twilight Books and Movies.. Ha ha ha.

~Edit~

I'm joking since it seem like Twilight kinda brought the Vampires down... A lot...

I'm sure that if this dlc had not been vampire centric, vampire fans left and right would have started to complain just like those among us who dislike vampires are complaining right now. It's a lose lose situation for Bethesda, but I think it's important to let them know when you aren't particularly fond of something. If those who dislike the idea do not speak up, they might think everybody loved it, when that's actually not the case.

I'm not a fan of Vampires. I'm a werewolf person. What is wrong with that?

~Edit~

Well kinda.. I do love this DLC but because I want to have some epic Werewolf VS Vampire fights finally in Skyrim.

I hate Vampires and Werewolves, but if Dawnguard lets me actually get my holy warrior on - something I felt was dearly missing from Skyrim with its increasing 'spike and grit' quotient at higher levels - then I'll be very satisfied with it.

Oh. That wont happen. Twilight, as a story, is extremely good... But it did butcher the vampires very badly and that is what I don't like about it.. The Vampires..
