Olympics

Every time I http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXQp59eGo7k I literally cringe and get all tingly.

So do I. I felt pretty sick when I saw video of that hockey player who's throat got cut open by a thick hockey skate. That stuff is really dangerous.

Does anybody know who they gave the 2nd goal by Canada too,I hope it was Pronger but it looked like Heatly got his stick on it.

I'm pretty sure Pronger got it, but I'm not that posirive.
Anyways its 4-0 now.

It is disappointing when they fall down, especially with a sort of dull regularity. But, I just try to look past that and enjoy the skill and grace. I can barely keep upright on ice skates, so I'm impressed with them zooming this way and that, going on one foot, twirling and jumping and spinning.

The "Code of Points" system that replaced the 6-point system after the 2002 judging scandal encourages (and maybe rightfully so) heavy risk-taking; you get the difficulty value (plus up to 3 for perfect execution) if you succeed, and you can still get the difficulty value (less 3 for falling) if you don't.

I'm not sure how well that works at junior level, where competitors are likely to get hurt performing moves that are too difficult for them; but at the elite level of world championships or the Olympics, I think it's justified.

I hope so I want my Flyers to play well.

On a side note I was angry to hear that Jeff Cater flew all the way to Vancouver and then they told him that they did not need him.He definitely deserved it over some of the people on the team now.Infact he has more points in the NHL then 4 of the forwards for Canada.

Wow Canada scored 2 goal in the time I took to post this.

Seriously, the hosts should fix their equipment and make sure the staff is up to the tasks, what with all the scandals.

But hooray for the Swedish winners in biathlon and cross-country skiing. Two gold medals already! :twirl:

Its your only [censored] sport. I'd be afraid for the Canucks if they lost the hockey games.

Well, at least 4 people have fallen on the downhill skiing just now thanks to the course being mostly ice. Geez Canada, learn to make a hill. :P

Random hockey post

Finland handled Belarus not as a confident first round win as Russia or Canada, but better than the US teams performance.

I got to say what's up Sweden? Pinched one by the Germans, although they are known for big checking I expected fireworks from the Swedes.

Next game Slovakia - Czechs should be good.

It wasn't a dominating victory. They are for the most part kids. Look at some of the leaders the other national teams have and we are GREEN.

I don't understand why it has to be a dominating victory, a victory is a victory and our team played well. We do have a young team, but that doesn't necessarily mean we're at a huge disadvantage or anything. I wouldn't judge them too harshly on their first game, especially since we won. :P

The women's hockey team is dominating though! :D

Agreed on the womens team! :D

This was the Swiss we beat 3-1. Although they do have a national league that NHL stars/semi-stars bounce through. Bern? I think it is holds some international rep, but Switzerland as a whole doesn't produce world class players. David Aebischer (SP?, goalie) was the last.

Scared of CND and RUS...

I am so sick of seeing Shuffleboard every time I turn the channel to the Olympics.

What's next? 9-ball tournaments in the Summer Olympics? Darts? Trivial Pursuit?

Well, America has http://www.vancouver2010.com/olympic-medals/ some tiny ground in the medals. But I still expect Germany to pull ahead.

Sounds like though they started off pretty rocky, the games are turning out to be a success for those attending. The weather turned for the better, the streets are full of people having fun, and spontaneously bursting out off key renditions of Oh Canada everywhere. (We are not know for being flag wavers, this is new.) In sky trains/public transit, on the streets, I mean everywhere.

I like the end statement in http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/2010wintergames/Cleve+Dheensaw+Amid+glitches+Canadians+making+these+Games+winner/2593543/story.html.

The best thing Vanoc and the COC can do is to just stay out of the way and let the Canadian people continue to carry this.

And the big news.......

Men's hockey - Canada vs USA.

4:40 Pacific.

Go Canada!
