Not a fan of showing all dialogue options. What's the point in that? A way to show players what they're missing? The dialogue options available to the player should just be a reflection the player character's skills. A character who knows nothing about science shouldn't have the dialogue option, what's the point if they're going to be failing the check 100% of time anyway.

Everything else sounds good though. Glad Caesar's Legion is in. Bit iffy on Area 51 - but that'll come down to whether or not there's ALIENZ in the place.

Hopefully it just has advanced tech, if it even has any left after being unguarded for hundreds of years. But I really hope there isn't anything to do with aliens there, Mothership Zeta was bad enough.

- All dialogue options are shown to all players, regardless of whether you have the stats to succeed or not, though there's no punishment for failure.

If this is right, than this is BIG BIG DISAPPOINTMENT and burying all the hopes in successor of Fallout1/2 8-((

I expressed similar concerns on the obsid forums, apparently is could go something like this:

You can click on the "Explosives" or "Science" optional dialogue, but if your skills aren't high enough it will just say "you fail!", not make the nuke you're trying to defuse explode in your face. Coherent with some of Josh's view on gameplay that he defined in some of his blog posts : all options brought by a certain score in a skill or attribute should be displayed as such. But they went a little bit too far here in my opinion...

I suppose it is to give the player a hint of the different things he could do with a different build...

The only way I guess that could work is if different skill levels actually affect the wording of the dialogue choice. So if your character's of average intelligence your [Intelligence] choice would actually be far less intelligent than a character with an INT score of 9 or 10. That would actually make sense I think. Otherwise....mehhh.

Which reminds me - I wonder if dumb dialogue for low INT is making a return?

Maybe we will be able to turn it off in hardcoe mode...

The fact that all dialogue options could be visible is a little game-breaker, but nothing major. It would be horrible if it wouldn't contain skill checks. And they still have lots of time to decide against showing all dialogue options to all players. The part about hard-core mode souns excellent. Of course they wouldn't make that the normal mode: Beth wouldn't allow that taking into account it will also be released for Xbox and PS3. Until now, there's a lot of great news, this might just be a great new Fallout. So it seems the fresh body in the cemetery is actually the PC.

Wow all this sounds fantastic!!!! I have a hunch when that link said something about the player getting rescued by a friendly robot. Do you think that could mean the body we see the robot digging up in the teaser is the main char.?

I like most of the info so far, tho the female SM sounds... icky.

I hope they don't have a mode specific achievements. I hate achievements that make you play on hardcoe or Legendary difficulty.

If it's stackable I don't mind so much but yeah, if you *have* to play 2 or more times just for getting the difficulty cheevos, that svcks. Even with a good game you would want to play again it makes it feel like an obligation/chore.

So you know what you might want to do with your next character that you didn't do this time. I agree though, it isn't ideal.

That was my first thought as I saw the trailer.

This looks great, I'm definitely going to be playing hardcoe mode, finally some added realism for console players :D.
The one thing that looks lame is showing all dialog options, it makes the game more interesting when you're playing a new character with different stats and you see options you didn't have before, this would feel like a bit of a spoiler to me.

Just because it's hardcoe mode, doesn't mean it has to 100% realistic (i.e. die forever). More casual players would hate that, and hate having no easy option for a quick playthrough. In fact, on my first playthrough I'll probably play in normal mode, just to get the jist of things. It's always good to leave options open for different players, I see no reason to complain.

Thats exactly what im going to do to

Agreed, but I've still got my doubts. With the expectation that every character should be fully voiced these days, adding responses to low INT grunts and groans could mean a lot of extra voice work for something that only a percentage of players might ever experience. But yeah, I really hope they went the extra mile and put them back in.

I hope not; that sounds a bit too much like Planescape: Torment's beginning for my liking.

Because Bethesda took an easter egg and made it a full blown, and terrible, DLC. Mothership Zeta was enough, and it shouldn't even exist imo.

what

PCs are very rarely fully voiced in RPGs, let alone bethesda-style sandboxes. Mass Effect is the only recent exception i can think of.

I never played MZ but the idea of aliens in the infamous area 51 is just nice i think. And maybe MZ shouldnt exist, but you cant say aliens shouldnt exist can you?

No he's on about the NPCs reactions to stupid people. They'd need to be voiced.

EDIT: ah, got ya.

He's referring to the NPC responses to the PC's "dumb dialogue".
