Bethesda used a lot of Van Buren elements in Fallout 3 and its DLC, actually.

They did? I haven't read a lt of the design documents for Van Buren, so I don't know. Got some examples?

The T-45d Power Armor (default model in FO3) and the Chinese Stealth Suit are from Van Buren.

Wasn't there just an infobit earlier telling that skills do affect dialog options? The "explosives" example? Now I'm confused.

Looks like all dialogue options are displayed, but if e.g. your Explosives skill is not high enough, you fail the check.

The T-45d Power Armor that the BoS uses in Fallout 3 is from Van Buren, the Chinese Stealth Suit from Operation: Anchorage is from Van Buren, The Trogs from The Pitt are from Van Buren, and I'm pretty sure the Enclave Satellite canon from Broken Steel is also from VB. Most of these things were heavily modified from what they were originally intended to be (especially the Trogs), but never the less they are concepts Bethesda borrowed from Van Buren. There's probably more that I'm not aware of as well.

All dialogue options are shown to all players, regardless of whether you have the stats to succeed or not, though there's no punishment for failure.

If this is right, than this is BIG BIG DISAPPOINTMENT and burying all the hopes in successor of Fallout1/2 8-((

About the combat shots, could you tell if iron sights are implemented, or do we have the little elliptical reticle? I can't see that damn thing.

NV would seem like a lesson in badassery.

Sounds like Fallout 3 in name only. I'm disappointed.

It's not Fallout 3, it' Fallout: New Vegas. How is it "Fallout 3 in name only" if it's not named "Fallout 3"? Most of the news sounds great, aside from the dialogue thing but I hope it was just reported incorrectly.

:nope: That dialogue stuff doesnt sound promising. I dont want to see directly all the dialogue options. It ruins the feeling of the game.. But they probably are showing for now, because they are testing stuff..like does the all the dialogs show proprely or wrong..just like a "debug" mode. And then they will make them invisible in the release version.

Alright. This gave me some faith in the game. Love Obsidian for this. hardcoe mode and the like make the game actually fun to play. Can't wait for more info now.

I'm pretty disappointed that Vegas is still pretty much intact. Obsidian is going to have to pull off a miracle to give New Vegas that post-apocalyptic vibe that the other games had. A great Fallout-esque story is nothing without a great Fallout-esque setting.

Edit: Oh, and I can't believe nobody's asked this, what number is on the vault suit shown in the screenshot?

Is the supermutant in the screenshot a west coast one or have they just copy and pasted an east coast one?

Well according to many respectable sources, the west has been quite successful in actually rebuilding.

I didn't realize it at first, but it's pretty preposterous that society couldn't pull itself together in some way other than a beached ship and a crater with metal around it... in 200 years. I mean for god's sake..

Need to drink water? I guess that's fine as long as its not over the top and the need decreases with a fitness level of some sorts.

M4 Look alike made my day, now all they need is Eric Bana in Delta Force kit and it'll be tops.

I'm hoping for weapons availability to rival Borderlands (millions or billions of possibilities). I was disappointed by the low number of "special" weapons in Fallout 3.

features a new optional hardcoe mode that addresses many things that were modded in..
need to drink water
ammo has weight
healing isn't instant

normal node is as per fallout 3

That "hardcoe" mode doesnt sound good. Those changes should be in normal game. Instahealing is just lame. It makes character practically immortal. Just stand still and shoot middle of 10 super mutants and then go back to time freezing pip-boy menu and click few times in stimpack and there you go...you are full health again and ready to play turret again.

But the hardcoe mode itself is a nice idea...but it doesnt now sound hardcoe...it sound normal...it should have that when you die, then you die permanently (deleting all your saves that use that character) and you would have to start the game again from the start. And thats what i call hardcoe.

I guess, its again geck time.

Unless Obsidian implements a random generating system for their weapons (which they wont), that's impossible. We'd be lucky if we got 100 different weapons.

Just because it's hardcoe mode, doesn't mean it has to 100% realistic (i.e. die forever). More casual players would hate that, and hate having no easy option for a quick playthrough. In fact, on my first playthrough I'll probably play in normal mode, just to get the jist of things. It's always good to leave options open for different players, I see no reason to complain.

I'm hoping for the old Fallout 2 feeling I used to get, where I'd try to creep to get some more powerful gear in the different caches and actually be at risk.

I remember the first time I played through the original games, the places like The Glow and the Sierra Army Depot were some of my favorite areas. There was some sense of payoff there.

But yeah, general category weapons with slight variations. Maybe durability and a competent maintenance system.

I hope they don't have a mode specific achievements. I hate achievements that make you play on hardcoe or Legendary difficulty. If the only two they have are beat on hardcoe mode I might be ok with it, just hate games that make you complete the game 3 times to get all the achievements, hence beat this to open this. Screw that, I want to be able to play through one whole time and get all achievements using multiple saves.

Not a fan of showing all dialogue options. What's the point in that? A way to show players what they're missing? The dialogue options available to the player should just be a reflection the player character's skills. A character who knows nothing about science shouldn't have the dialogue option, what's the point if they're going to be failing the check 100% of time anyway.

Everything else sounds good though. Glad Caesar's Legion is in. Bit iffy on Area 51 - but that'll come down to whether or not there's ALIENZ in the place.
