Patch 1.4 Discussion Includes Changelog!

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 8:59 am

Does this mean that Karliah and the rest of the Thieves Guild has been fixed? That's the only bug I've faced so far.

Also, is this patch live now? How do I get this for the 360? Not seeing anything for download.

Looks like mostly quest fixes, rather than game mechanics fixes.

I noticed there was no mention of fixing the college of winterhold bug where the quest line dies when savos aren dies and no progression triggered :(
I was hoping to become arch mage but i guess i'll have to wait for 1.5

I dont think they do this with consoles. At least directly from the companies.

I don't fully understood what you posted... But again I think (From what I understood) that many companies release online patches to Consoles' Games (At least in this generation of consoles)

"Improved compiler optimization settings (PC)"

I wonder if this means they implemented the performance improvements from TESVal and Skyboost into the vanilla game. I remember the author of TESVal saying in a thread on the subject that Bethesda could optimize the code on their end and improve overall performance to a far greater extent than anything he could do with a mod. Skyboost did wonders for my FPS.

That's what I was thinking, and I sure hope they did. They've shown they can take fan tweaks into the game officially before, they might have done this again now.
I've actually been quite happy about just how much attention us PC users are getting honestly. I do feel for the PS3 users though, I hope this patch fixes their problem.

not as important than the technical flaws, especially the PS3, I really hope that they found the problem and fixed it, be nice not having to start a new game when a character got to critical mass.

  • General optimizations for memory and performance
  • ...
  • Long term play optimizations for memory and performance (PS3)
  • Memory optimizations related to scripting
  • Fixed crashes related to pathing and AI
  • ...
  • Fixed rare crash with loading saved games
  • ...
  • Fixed issue where quests would incorrectly progress after reloading a save
  • ...
  • Fixed issue with ash piles not cleaning up properly
  • Fixed occasional issue where overwriting an existing save would fail
  • Fixed memory crash with container menu

I appreciate the overall tone of the update and the level of detail given, as it is an improvement. I admit to some disappointment, that the concerns of the PS3 community weren't addressed in a more direct manner. Still, one can read between the lines and recognize the care given.

My main hope now is that one of the fixes quoted will stop the freezing on the PS3. So now it's back to wait and see.

Source? I don't remember anyone from Bethesda saying that game balance issues were being worked on. It could have been said, I just don't remember it.

I don't know if the PS3 got all the updates that the PC version has gotten. Patch 1.3 made my game go from Pausing and Stuttering that I had to fix with a third party patch to smooth and crash free. Well, I have had one CTD and two hard freezes, but I almost expect those once in a while with all the things that go on in these games. However, for me on the PC, it has been night and day since 1.3.

Wup wup, Bethesda's vow of silence is over.

There are indeed plenty of important things adressed, curious to see it live.
Hmm hmm, there's no definite "Long term play optimizations for memory and performance" for PC from what I gather, although there are more ambiguous memory and stability fixes.
The proof will be in the pudding, bring on the 1.4 yarr!
It said all the notations apply to all platforms unless otherwise specified.

Could be this.
After the holidays, we’ll continue to release regular updates for the game — through full title updates, as well as incremental “gameplay updates” to fix whatever issues come up along with rebalancing portions of the game for difficulty or exploits. We plan on having a lot of these, not just a few.

I wasn't able to finish my first game because of CTD and the environment not rendering at my high level with a very large filesize on PC. If that issue is fixed, I'll be able to do the MQ of this awesome game. I'm thinking it's likely some fixes won't be retroactive in old savefiles though so it'll mean starting a fresh game for everything to take effect. Until the patch, I may just go play some Fallout New Vegas while I'm waiting.

Is my thinking on the right track about the previous saves...anyone? Thank you mods for being on top of all of this. :tes:

Yes, they do. Every patch and every update for all of my games on my PS3 since I got the unit some 5 or more years ago has been gotten online. It happens automatically when I start up a game the first time after a patch or update is released. It may not be DIRECTLY from the company, it comes thru the PSN if I'm not mistaken, but PSN gets it from the company. Same difference, you still get the patch regardless.

My only complaint about this patch is that they fix blood on ice but not the forsworn conspiracy, come on.

I guess they didn't specifically mention this very first update, but seeing as they emphasized the 'gameplay updates', I was expecting it now.

However, for me on the PC, it has been night and day since 1.3.

For me, 1.1 with an SSD was really great. Then 1.2 and 1.3 introduced intermittent freezing of the console, requiring hard restarts. One restart placed the console into an eternal file restore loop, for which the only fix possible was a clean install of the OS.

I haven't played for real since before the holidays. The last time I created a new character, after the new year, the dragon didn't spawn in Helgen, and when I quit through the settings menu, the game froze on the Start screen, requiring a hard restart.

That's why I'm hoping that one or all of the several crash fixes mentioned in the update will address the hard freezing on the PS3.

All threads wanting to discuss the upcoming patch will be redirected here. (Link to previous thread is http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1332244-patch-14-discussion-merged-similar-topics/.)

From the Bethblog Post:

It’s been a few weeks since our last update on Skyrim’s status, so we wanted to share details on what we’re working on.

The Creation Kit and Steam Workshop are nearly ready. We’re currently working with members of Valve and our modding community to do some final testing, and we’re on track for a public release near the end of the month. We think Skyrim modding is one of the game’s best features, and we have the best modders of any game. It’s been a lot of exciting work for us, and we can’t wait to unleash it.

Skyrim’s 1.4 update is currently undergoing testing on all three platforms. The update will include fixes and optimizations for the most common issues people have been reporting (see below). We’re hoping to finalize this next week, and submit it to the console manufacturers for certification, as well as release on PC.

Our current update plan for the PC is to first release our updates as “beta” versions through Steam. This is something you’ll be able to opt into through Steam and back-out of if needed. This is an extra safety check for everyone going forward and should expedite and improve our updating process for our PC users. We’ll have more info soon on how this will work.

Echoing what we said back in December, we’ll continue to look into issues that are being reported and subsequent updates will follow. You have all supported Skyrim in a huge way, and we’ll be supporting all of you, and continue to make the game better.

After the break, check out the current changelog for 1.4.

I thought that 1.3 had addressed some balance issues, but I can't find the changelog that says that. Gameplay issues would mostly be Quest Related rather than what I would call Data fixes, which has more to do with Balance. Personally, the game is pretty balanced as far as my character is concerned, but I also don't do magic which I know some folks have complained about.

Don't want to be negative just for the sake of it, but the usual way of dealing with this old frame rate drop/crashing problem (mainly for the PS3) by this company doesn't help to think it will be fixed at all. Previous games with this same engine problem like Fallout 3 and New Vegas were never fixed.

Why they are not going to fix the most common issue in the game which has remain from the release to this day? I mean the truth that about 70% of random dragons are flying over your head but are not going to be hostile and then they fly away. It doesn't matter even you hurt them they are not going to attack and flies away. Another very common issue is that you can't absorb every dragons soul after you slay it. Why they are not going to fix them?
