Patch #1 Unofficial bugfix

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 4:59 am

Omg Boris, you are a genius. Your patch helped me with the blackscreen issue, that made the game impossible to play!! Maybe you should suggest including your patch into the next update to Bethesda.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

Anti-Virus didn't pick anything up.
Hopefully this fixes my CTD problem.

I'd love to use this as I'm experiencing a lack of particle effects, poor shadows, etc, but this causes a CTD immediately upon running Skyrim. I tried the suggested fix of installing older drivers with no success. I have a fossilized GeForce 7900 GTO for reference.

Thanks for the effort for the community nonetheless.

I have Geforce 7950GT OC (x2) so I'm not that much higher and it works for me using latest drivers.
Do you have any other mods .dll mods installed or have you modded the skyrimprefs.ini ?
That seemed to crash me using the launcher because the launcher wants to reset changes that this makes.
Try using the TESV.exe instead of the game launcher.

I've stated this in the WinXP 2-7 second freeze thread, but I'll mention it again here: patch 4 causes Skyrim to immediately CTD when trying to launch. The previous versions worked fine, strangely enough.

Did you simply overwrite the files?
The launcher doesn't seem to like that.
Try deleting the old patch files & run the launcher to detect stock settings again > exit > install patch 4 > run launcher to redetect patch & then edit to your liking > play!

This is the time when i deleted this patch... I better give up some additional FPS instead of this patch causing all sorts of graphical bugs and crashes.... Ever since i removed it, no more crashes, no more graphical problems :/

Just wanted to say thanks for this patch.

I was stuck on one of the College of Winterhold quests because I couldn't see some beams of light, so I tried this patch to fix it. Now with this patch I can see so many special effects that I was missing out on before, it is like I'm playing a whole new game.

Really wanted to use this, but it overwrites any injector (for sharpening, bloom and such) so it's a no-go. :(

Yep.

I installed your patch and even the 4GB fix, still black screening and hard rebooting :(
I've tried EVERYTHING [censored] IT :(

System Specs -
Intel Q9450 CPU
Asus Striker II Extreme Motherboard
2x GTX 260 (SLi disabled)
6gb DDR 3 Ram
10,000k RPM HDD
Windows 7 32bit Home Ed.

Ahh I give up with the PC version :(
It seems my black screen of rebooting +10 just can't be beaten. I really worry if it's some sort of configuration on my PC that really hates Skyrim.
I really really hope Bethesda's patch can fix it.

Yep.

Actually, it is compatible. You just have to put the injector .dll in another folder & then in the ENB .ini enable proxy libraries & direct it to the folder it's in.
I saw it discussed on the Skyrim nexus site in the comments to this file. I can't run injector because my machine is missing a required .dll_49? for it so i haven't tried it for myself or i would have.

maybe trying everything is the problem. Undo what you've done, especially to the skyrimprefs.ini & start with this patch only.

The fix helped reduce stuttering on my machine. Playing with uGridsToLoad=7 and I was encountering short but noticeable (500 ms or smth.) freezes/stutters while traveling outdoors, presumably due to the game loading new grids. This fix made the stuttering pretty much unexistant. Thanks Enb!

This helped with all the invisible flames and spider webs (which I used to run into without knowing why I couldn't move forward). Thanks :)

PS: An additional fps cap would be much appreciated. Since you can't (afaik) use several custom d3d9.dll files at once, the fps limiter at nexus isn't really an option for me.

When I try to use it, the game crashes before it starts, only small window shows in upper-left corner, then the default send/don't send message comes up.

I have
Intel E5300 @ 2.6GHz
XFX Radeon 4850 512MB
2GB RAM
XP SP3

I've tried several versions of the ENBsieries patch, and two GPU drivers (11.9 and 11.11)

Hmmm. There seems to be an issue with forcing singlecorecpu & the game launcher. I typically didn't use the launcher but now that steam has patched the exe, its been brought to my attention.
I've tested on patches 2, 4, & 5 - here's what happens.
Patch 2 doesn't have forcesinglecore so it installed & runs fine with launcher.
Patch 4 with forcesinglecore=true installs & runs once w/ launcher. After that it will crash. Set forcesinglecore=false & it will work again.
Patch 5 same as above.
This really svcks because the game runs much better with forcesinglecore=true on my single core machine.
I know the launcher likes to overwrite settings, so the question is what .ini settings are conflicting with forcesinglecore?

This worked very well for me. thanks! :)

But what does the Speedhack=false setting in the cfg file do?

Oh yeah that's a minecraft server setting. Blatant proof that this is just an elaborately modded copy of minecraft.

Heh imagine if this game were in Java.

ENBSeries - Dont know if you want to add this to your tips but its worth a look I feel .. I have been using it with Oblivion for quite some time and its proving helpful with Skyrim too:

http://www.prnwatch.com/prio.html - Before anyone flags up the age old problem of whether or not to trust such a tool which plugs into such a vital system tool as Task Manager, it was recommended by Steve Gibson of Security Now fame, and I have been using it for just over a year on Win XP/Vista and 7, and have had no problems (apart from Microsoft Security Essentials did not get along famously with it in the early days of MSSE - Now MSSE recognises and allows a legit Prio to run).

Whats it all about - Call up Task manager with Prio installed and Task manager has had a few functions extended (a new tab for TCP/IP in/out activity for instance)

More importantly for this topic - Now you can save Priority States per exe, so that if you want to give TESV.exe Above Normal or High priority, and set CPU affinities for cores, they are saved the next time you load up windows / re-run that particular exe.

Guys - Dont go daft re-shuffling your priorities for all exe's/processes, you can cause a lot of problems for your system, but for the purpose of just raising the bar for a game or two, this is perfect.

Interesting tool. I like the Silent Evaluation option a lot (does not have anything to do with the game). Will give it a try.
