Huh.

I don't think I've ever been made fun of for my nationality.

Neat.

OP- Stop telling people you're American, work on some crazy ass accent, then make up a really obscure country to tell them you came from, then if they try stereotype you, you can laugh at their stupidity.

OP, everyone has racial stereotypes. I've been honestly asked if we Australians actually ride Kangaroos to school. We dont, we shoot them (or hit them with cars) and serve them cooked well-done with seasoning. If people think all Americans are fat and stupid then let them be deluded. As long as you know who you are why care what others think?

Americans aren't a "race" though, so there's nothing racial going on per se. But that's a whole other thing.

One thing I learned from being in the military for 20 years is: Every country hates the U.S.A. unless they're invaded or need relief money.

Just like the police!

Say you're from Andorra.

Just to make a point: "Andorra is so small it relies solely on tourism since the population isn't big enough to sustain the economy, despite the nation's size per citizen."
There, I made an ignorant stereotype about Andorra, based only on my knowledge that the population isn't big and that the nation in size isn't big. And that's all I know anyway.

Every country will have negative stereotypes of other countries. It's probably true that America has a lot negative stereotypes depending on which section of US society you're talking about, but that's because America has been such a major force in the world in so many ways for quite a long time that it's bound to attract a lot of attention, both positive and negative.

Yeah stereotypes about people are usually very, very wrong. As my wife is Japanese she doesn't have big eyes and blue hair, or even own a schoolgirl uniform :( Yeah sorry anime nerds

Does it make me old if the first reaction I have to that is to start cracking Bewitched Jokes?

That's terrible...I don't see how you let someone bother you that much.

Thats how I think about it now that I look back. 'Tis why I drastically changed my attitude towards life in general, now I'm much more easy-going :D
