People make fun of me for being American...

That's because everyone in Colorado is a bunch of granola hippies that ski all the time, old Andy :P

Skiing granola hippy creates a hilarious mental image lol

Why is that so disproportional? I live in New York and people here really aren't commonly fat.

I used to live in New York and I currently live in LA, which is a mecca for doomed, beautiful wannabe actresses. Lots of beautiful people here.

But if you spend some time in Tokyo, Osaka, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Milan, Paris, Nice, Rome, you will see on average people are thinner than they are in New York and L.A.

There are many other citizens of other countries that think that way, so that particular type of ignorance isn't just limited to Americans, nor is every American guilty of it. If anything, that's another negative stereotype against Americans (and affects Muslims).

Obviously not every American thinks that. I was just pointing out how stupid stereotyping is.

Fair enough, I see your point (even if I was too dense to see it in the first place  )

Maybe, maybe even likely... but that's a discussion that wouldn't be appropriate here.

Yeah, I know.

I know a truckload of Dutch who wouldn't be able to point out Idaho on a map to save their life if you had a gun to their heads..

often they think there are 52 states, because Hawaii and Alaska were the last two..

..and wonder what ever happened to East Virginia.

edit.
goof

Can't blame them much for that, I don't expect Americans to know all our twelve provinces and be able to point out Middelburg on a map either.

I get alot of stereotypes, being Tasmanian. But most are true :(

Ive only met two Americans in my life, neither were fat but they were both stupid. Not to say that's what all Americans are like.

I feel like the insults and general stereotypes Americans usually get are worse than some others. We get called fat and stupid while U.K. gets called tea-drinkers and snobs. I think I'd rather be thought of as a tea drinking snob than a stupid and fat American. However, I stopped taking these insults seriously long ago, I actually quit playing xbox live because I would get so angry over the name calling :P I even sent continuous hate mail to a kid for hours until I thought he blocked me so I made a new account and had a couple friends invite him to a party and cuss him out and then send more and more messages until we ran out of things to say. I dont even remember what the kid called me

But if what they call you isnt true then why get worked up over it? Obvioulsy I didnt think about that when I was younger but now-a-days my overall attitude for nearly everything in life is "dont take anything seriously, life is just a big joke and if you cant laugh at it then whats the point of living?". Pretty much made me super-uncompetitive and really laid back all the time, not good for trying to get stuff done but good for just about everything else. :D

Across the web (i.e. you're American, so you're stupid or you're American, so you're fat).

Do people in foreign countries (mostly Britain) seriously think all Americans are fat and stupid?

This has been gnawing at me for a while.

Your American, why do care what lessers think about you...j/k? The Lion does not concern himself with the opinions of sheep.

I wouldn't know where Idaho is, middle US some place is about as close as I'd get. Aaaand I only know there's 50 states because of the film "The 51st State" :P

I would just let it go. Then again, I've never had this, because every single person who has tried to insult me about my nationalty thinks I'm Irish (in all fairness to those people, I do have red hair, pale skin and they claim that my Northen English accent sounds Irish) Many people who call you by a stereotype are just joking. Even if you don't find it funny.

I don't expect anyone to know all the U.K. counties and be able to point to them on a map...since I can't do that myself.

I said New York, not New York City.

People outside of New York don't seem to know there's a state called New York. :P

Thankfully, I took the time to, pretty much, learn of every single damn country in the world, every providence in Canada, and every state in the US when I was in elementary school. I still remember most of what I learned in elementary school, though I sometimes require some brushing up as some countries changed their name, split, or combined. I'm also in shape.

Guess I break a bunch of molds right there.

Fail. Canada has provinces not the city of Providence multiplied. You must be American...

Hmmm... With a Name like "RAF" I kinda assumed you were british.

But yeah, like the "Dumb Irish" "Snooty French" "Authoritarian German" and "Australian.... Bruce" The fat dumb american is the stereotype. Of course, Steriotypes are unfair to pretty much everyone and probably wrong.
