Well, find a gamepad that has as many buttons as a keyboard and I'll be fine

System War.....System war never changes
And what makes my console bashing different from other people's is that I do it in a subtle, moderator-safe way

Heads still explode from handguns. Well it was a .357 I guess.

I hope so, it would be a bit daft if someones head explodes from a weak round like a .22 or somthing.

Saw this video about an hour ago good stuff really good stuff. I really don't like the caravan shotgun I always hated guns in fallout 3 that shot two bullets and then you have to reload.

VATS is still the I win button. Pete would have been screwed without VATS.

I did a playthrough recently on PS3 without pulling up VATS other than fat fingering the trigger. There are certainly play styles and character builds that will get great benefit from VATS and some that don't.

Sure it does, melee has super duper special moves in VATS now.

I imagine a stealth style doesn't really get anything from VATS, especially if shotguns still work like they did in F3. (In F3 if you got a critical with your shotgun, every pellet would have its damaged multiplied by the critical, but in VATS, you'd only get 1x critical multiplication. This also applied to sneak criticals, so if you snuck up behind someone and blasted them, you'd be better off not using vats.)

Does it? I thought that one (or more) melee weapons just got a special attack (like the Golf Club for example).

I think every melee weapon has a special attack. Why would only some have them?

Regarding the hat thing;

Does it really make sense to you that you can get luckier or better at seeing thing from wandering around a nuclear wasteland? If you're able to suspend disbelief enough to improve stuff like your LUCK stat, which makes you luckier (which is already a ridiculous concept) for no reason.

You can't complain about hat bonuses but simply accept the system of improving stats...

Long-range characters or stealth-oriented characters benefit less from VATS than general mid-range run-and-gunners.

I was actually hoping this wasn't the case with long range. It would be nice if having a high perception (which obviously makes sense if you are a sniper) would make it so targets can be detected at longer ranges using VATS. I guess sticking to real time when sniping is fine, but still.

Stealth characters that are melee characters(?) or those that like to sneak up close for higher VATS percentages? (with guns)

There's still a maximum VATS range, regardless of PER. And IMO, it's pretty boring to stroll through the game making silenced VATS head shots at guys at ranges that are far outside of (their) detection range.

Either way, it's less useful because the targets tend to be unaware and not moving (or not moving fast), which makes them relatively easy to hit.

The one mistake that was made during the video was he should have selected the fridge and took food out of there before talking to the deputy. Although I have a feeling he did that on purpose to make it more dramatic

That should depend on the player, and the character they are playing riiight?

Gotcha... I wish that [hitting] were not the only point to vats ~as it (at this point) appears to be.

When I watch the presentation videos, none of the developers do anything but take head shots. None of them make any attempt to explain the benefits of VATS, they just spend all AP's on head shots. Is that how you play?

*I do understand that VATS does crippling effects and weapon disarming, but it never seems to play much part in the fight.

** If you will, what are the high points of VATS?

Agreed, that's why I would only use it when the situation calls for it. I guess it's fine that way, I'll just use some mods to add that feature in when I want to use it.

this. it would be cool to see a answer. I noticed that just by doing head shots you dropped the health so drastically you could easily dispatch any that survive vats. It would be nice to see that rate lowered or easier crippled limbs to compensate from simply blowing their heads off every time. Did difficulty effect how easily limbs were crippled?

I hope there aren't going to be too many towns that are just full of enemies for you to kill and have nothing else going on. I had enough of that in F3.

At least there's a dude there for you to rescue and recruit.

Plus with the quest, you can (assumingly) clear the town of convicts, have friendlies repopulate, and reopen the casino!!!

Other than enemies, Primm is supposed to have a companion, at least one vendor, and I wouldn't be surprised if it is more a full settlement once the convicts are killed. The companion isn't the deputy by the way, it will be ED-E, the eyebot.
