sheogorath the CoC

It would be a huge disservice for Bethesda to have put out Shivering Isles just to say, "Well, this didn't happen." or, "It was some nameless npc, not the Champion of Cyrodiil." Letting people get invested in a story just to rip it away from them is a terrible decision.

So much so in fact that it'd be a bad business move. I'd definitely think twice about purchasing future expansions.
WE AREN"T SAYING THAT IT DIDN"T HAPPEN OR IT WAS ALWAYS SOME RANDOM GUY!!!! We're saying it was for some people who didn't do the expansion. For those that did the expansion Sheogorath IS the Champion of Cyrodiil.

It most certainly doesn't matter what you, or I, or she did with their specific characters. Story is story and continuity is continuity. If it isn't kept, the story falls apart.

Continuity does't mean that you've to take every aspect of freedom in it.

Does Bethesda says that the CoC was the arch-mage?The Listener? The Gray Fox?The grand champion of arena? The master of fighter guild? An altmer? A Bosmer? An imperial? A nord? An orc? A khajiit? etc..

Hah. I was going to consider asking for proof that the Champion of Cyrodiil wasn't Sheogorath to illustrate what you said, but I kind of thought it'd go over people's heads.

None of these are terribly important to any part of the story. But becoming a Daedric Prince?! That's HUGE. That's Tiber Septim big. Infact, that's bigger than Tiber Septim. Aedra can die - Daedra can't.

Forget it, he doesn't seem to get the point that every player's story is his/her own. Just let the thread die.

No one is trying to prove that he isn't Sheogorath. People are simply stating that it is possible that he is, and possible that he isn't.

The proof is in the pudding.
The proof is in what we know about TES storytelling.
To assume anything because you want it to be true is a mistake.

Once more, you can talk about likelyhood but not about certainty.
To say anything otherwise, that would be Bethesda slapping people in the face as it would U-turn a beloved mechanic.

I get that every player has a story that he or she does. You don't get that when the next game comes out, Bethesda has decided the previous main character's end. It isn't explicitly stated that CoC is Sheogorath, but it's really damn close.
