Skyrim Not Nominated For IGN GotY

This sounds like a 13 year olds response.

So many games require some thinking. Again, slow and boring doens't mean it's some sort of ultimate inteligent design of a game.

Slow and boring? I don't think you even played DS. It's combat is engaging and exciting. Every new encounter is a challenge because you don't know what to expect. Not to mention every enemy acts differently and every weapon type plays differently. Seriously, did you even play DS? You probably got owned in the tutorial and gave up.

Lol.

Killzone 3 is poorly balanced, small and has terrible controls. BF3 is better by a mile.

Sorry, no.
Killzone 3 probably had the best balance of any FPS this year, and the controls were great.
Different =/= Terrible

BF3 is a joke where the VOIP doesn't work, tons of input lag, EA's awful servers, and many more issues.

And what do you mean by Killzone is "small?"
Its maps are quite big if thats what you mean.

Also, I bet you don't even own a PS3 LOL

Elder scrolls isn't a GOTY.

Well, I'm a big elder scrolls fan, but this game isn't really GOTY worthy... it is simply missing one factor: "Epicness"...... Elder scroll games have always been missing that factor IMO. I guess when it comes down to it, it depends how you define epicness, in terms of scale of the world/choices available, elder scroll games are epic. But that isn't the "epic" I am referring too. The epicness that elder scrolls are missing is that hair standing, jaw dropping, heart pumping adrenaline rush.

Look at the list of IGN GOTYs, look at gamespots, gametrailers, etc. The majority of them were truly "EPIC" when playing them. Mass effect series (biased so I won't get started here =P), Metal Gear Solid, Halo series, Half Life 2, Battlefield, God of War, the list goes on. What do all these games have in common? Most obvious is action, but beyond the action are epic moments, moments in the game that causes split seconds to minutes of a adrenaline rush. Think about the ending fight in Half-Life 2, Halo, ME, and gears of war. Think about the moments in MGS series where your heart was racing trying to stay alive. Think about the times in BF1942 where you ran across the shores of Omaha dodging mortars and barely getting to the safety of a trench. THESE are truly epic moments, and sadly The Elder Scroll games simply don't support this.

Skyrim is probably the best example of the lack of epicness, for all those that completed the main quest line, did you feel a adrenaline rush? heart pounding? I know that when I finished the MQ line I said to myself, "thats it?" For myself, Elder scroll games will always be epic in terms of the scale of the world, the lore, the history. But in terms of that blood rushing, heart stomping, hair standing feeling, no, elder scrolls needs to sit in the back seat on that one.

On a side note: If the makers of TES series collaborated with Bioware to make a game, dear lord that game would be amazing!

Well what you do know?

IGN finally got their collective heads out of Bethesda's butt and actually did something right.

Miracles do happen.

if i was a PS3 owner and they dont fix that issue with large save files becoming unusable i would sell my copy quickly before word gets around. the funny thing is i though PC users were going to have the worst ports........turns out it was PS3 owners.

as for game of the year, no. my game of the year is deus ex HR.

Yea Uncharted 2/3 and Mass Effect 2 almost made me s*** my pants at times.
Skyrim doesn't really have those intense times.

The only time I thought was EPIC was when you fight your first dragon. After that, they all became the same.

you say slow and boring but that can't be further from the fact, every new enemy in souls requires quick reactions and constantly thinking ahead

you can't just sit their an hold block like skyrim where stamina is pretty much only drained by running and completely useless otherwise and the only reason the increase is it is for increased invnentory

beside myself someone would call souls combat slow compared to skyrim. Skyrim is slower than slow. Their are not any Rolling animals that get on u in a split second, eemies don't vary their swing times, and a challenge only comes once ever 20 hours of gametime

half of skyrim battles are won in the horrible menu system

son you need to go trade in ur copy and get a game that will actually exercise ur brain, skyrim combat is like mastvrbatingly dumb and easy

Skyrim for PS3 svcks, says the PS3 community. I wouldn't know.
It's easily the best game on PS3 so far, since 2007. Of course, the lag and resistance bug take it down from the top, but once those get fixed it's easily the best game for PS3, ever. :)

I do own a PS3, which is why I know Killzone 3 is poorly balanced. Infiltrator is the go-to class with the OP shotgun, unlimited sprint and ability to disguise himself and remain disguised while using melee kills, and the Marksman class have an OHK rifle, can turn invisible and remain invisible while using their silenced machine pistol. The other 3 classes have no such OP abilities.

..and the maps might be big for console players, that doesn't make it big. Some maps in Black Ops are bigger..

I've watched some play Skyrim, and "not all know how to play it", that sounds burtal, but it's true!

like when playing it with the mouse, it just doesn't have the feeling nor possibilty to move/strave/look/aim so fluid ans smooth (and here and there slightly slower) like with two anologstcks (the graphics, the scenery ect. are so enjoyable)

many "veterans" just play the game on "normal" or (if not even turn to easy), and just go +/- running from foe to foe with a few slashes or just using tons of meds on more difficult foes;

and end up missing some keep gameplay, survival hunting, fleeing feelings the game has to offer (luckly there are many "hard" moments even on normal, but many of them can be simplified with meds)

to fully enjoy the game (as a RPG veteran) play it on hard (if not even very hard) and play it with a pad (two anolog sticks)! otherwise the game might not totally feel GOTY worthy, which it totally is!!

(Edit: there are mouse playesr who can play it "smooth", this isn't ment to flame any mous vs pad discussion)

You act like no other game has those qualities. Different enemies in skyrim act differently and I don't think 1 handed weapons play like 2 handed weapons.

I admit I didn't play a lot of it, but I couldn't get past the combat. Honestly, I died a lot. Not b/c I svcked if you must know but b/c I was bored. The system is basically trial and error. The combat being boring is opinion, but it being slow is not.

And the player hint thing was a joke. There would be obvious hints here and there...then lying hints here and there....and 1/3 of them were the "I can't take this anymore" messages.

What are you crying about - it got a nomination for best RPG - where it belongs GOTY nominees should be GOW3/MW3/Dead Space 2/Killzone 3/Dead Island because all have both SP and MP/CO-OP

see I totally agree with this. Skyrim has only one spic moment, first dragon encounter. After u figure out every battle is the same it becomes a chore. It eventually feels like a chore to play skyrim

I'm of the opinion that using GOTY awards to gauge gaming quality tends to make about as much sense as using the MTV awards to gauge musical quality.

Usually it's just a prize for high sales and good marketing, not saying that some great games and musicians don't do this well mind you.
