"Even on PC sometimes its a joke", "Too many bugs to be GoTY."

Let me cut people off here and say that Morrowind was also buggy. Derp

I haven't read all 8 pages of this thread, but Skyrim is right there in the list, under RP games.

So, the OP just missed that or did they add it later?

morrowind came out in 2011? I mean I know Bethesda loves to stick to their ancient game mechanics but...

IGN is always crap anyway but R3 and ME2 should be replaced with Dark Souls and InFamous2.

Yes, but it wasn't nominated for PS3 GOTY.
And it shouldn't.

It should be nominated for PS3 GotY. IGN just can't push past the bugs and see how truly great a game Skyrim is.
This, even with it's issues it's still a better game then the rest of it's competition. I would argue that this is probably Beth's least buggiest game to date. Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3 were much worse.

No, it's unplayable, and deserves to win nothing.
(Also in reply to xande as well) In case you couldn't infer that I'm a PS3 player myself, I am. I noticed a video floating around this thread where someones save file was 11mb and lagging unbelievably. My save file is close to 13mb, and only starts with the real frame rate drops and lag after at least an hour in. I've also found several solutions (temporary as they may be) to the lag issue for PS3 users, besides restarting.

1) Delete your game data for Skyrim under game data utility. Re-install and it should run better. I haven't tried this personally for Skyrim, but its worked for me on F3 and FNV.

2) Clear up your game data utility. I'm not looking for flamers saying "installed game data has nothing to do with RAM," but as there's no way to clear RAM on PS3, this is the next best solution. I cleared up my game data utility from ~3 gigs open to ~10 gigs open. The game DID run marginally better. But who knows, this might've just been a one-off for me.

This is for a PS3 slim 120 gig bought October '09 BTW.

I'm talking about on PS3....I just thought that was kind of obvious as Uncharted is on PS3....

And Skyrim is not at all the clear winner, as its a terrible game is not even playable after the patch...

The lag makes the game bad, but even on PC its not incredible. (IMO)
Storyline is just bad, menu UI is awful, guilds are boring, caves have the same people in it with nothing special, cities are tiny, NPCs are mentally ill, etc.

The fact that it freezes on PS3 after every couple hours, and lags every time you see an enemy just adds to the issues.

So?

I'm not saying the PS3 version doesn't have bugs or even that the bugs couldn't be bad.

I'm just saying that there are as many reviews on Metacritic for Skyrim as Uncharted, you can't expect everyone to review every version of the game.

You can't just run around and say that not alot of critics reviewed it when that's just not the case.

IGN and GOTY, those two just don't fit together.

True. Spike TV and GOTY is probably a bigger joke though (wasn't Spike TV GOTY completely popular vote?).

LOL What?

So you're saying even though it is basically unplayable due to frame rate issues, its still better than games on the list? No.
I can tell you ever game nominated for PS3 Game of the Year is better than Skyrim. (PS3) By far.

This is the first out of the 100+ games I have had that I can't play.
If I went and turned on Skyrim right now, it would either:

a) Lag until I had to turn it off.
OR Freeze before I had to chance to turn it off.

Do you see this? :disguise: This is me not caring.

It's GOTY in my books, and that's all that matters to me.

I can understand Skyrim for PS3 not being nominated, but who the hell is picking these games?

No LBP 2 in overall game of the year? Absolute s.h.i.t.e

True. I almost forgot that was this year.
The problem with GOTY awards is that they COMPLETELY forget about games earlier in the year.

All you hear is BF3, Skyrim, Uncharted, Zelda, Batman, etc...
What about Killzone 3? That game was 10x better than Battlefield 3!

What about Resistance?
LittleBigPlanet?

Or you could just realize that Skyrim is far to bugged to be considered GOTY?

'Tis true, and, in terms of longevity people talk about Skyrim......well I put WELL over 1000 hours into LBP2......and its still amazing to come back to.....

......and don't get me started on the differences between Media Molecule and Bethesda as developers....

Yep LBP2= Endless Fun.

It's like PlayStation's Mario.
The fact that it isn't being considered for GOTY, or at least PS3 GOTY is a crime.

Souls takes level of finesse in combat most gamers are not capable of. So they choose skyrims combat for the training wheels.
Just b/c the combat is slow and boring doesn't mean your some sort of gaming god. A lot of ppl didn't take the time to get into the combat b/c of that very reason.

This sounds like a 13 year olds response.

So many games require some thinking. Again, slow and boring doens't mean it's some sort of ultimate inteligent design of a game.

Lol.

Killzone 3 is poorly balanced, small and has terrible controls. BF3 is better by a mile.
