Skyrim Not Nominated For IGN GotY

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 8:09 pm

There can be a strong case made for Uncharted 3 but not the others, especially Catherine. I believe that IGN put that in on purpose to stick it to Beth for not fixing the PS3 version, even though those fixes take time to do and you can't rush those fixes because you'll create new problems like 1.2 did with the resistance issues.

Even if that's true (and I'm sure it is) that it takes a long time to fix this glitch.. it shouldn't have gotten through in the first place. This game should have never hit the streets with the amount of large bugs it has. Not the little ones, but the big ones like the PS3 glitch and the 360 texture glitch. Never should have released.

Still, I would put Resistance 3 or Killzone 3 over Skyrim for PS3.
Skyrim before patch 1.2 was playable but bad, but after 1.2, it's completely unplayable.

I hope they don't just abandon the PS3 version, as it gets a good amount of their sales.
And I DEFINITELY won't buy the next Elder Scrolls game until I look into it and see if it actually works.

How Bethesda won Studio of the Year at VGA is beyond my understanding.

No, but Skyrim is truly a joke on the PS3.

Your emoticons aren't clever or cute.

Skyrim is a joke on PS3. It's an awful port that shouldn't have even been released.

Too bad people like you will defend Bethesda without even understanding what the conversation is about.

You seem frustrated.

Catherine works for everyone, Skyrim doesn't. No matter how bad Catherine is, at least it works. That makes it instantly more worthy of GOTY than Skyrim.

Uncharted 3 will probably win everything it's nominated for, I haven't seen a PS3 game that good since Uncharted 2.

I personally don't have a problem with the texture glitch but I will agree that Beth rushed Skyrim in order to get it out on 11-11-11. It definitely needed another 3 months of fine tuning but then that puts it in direct competition with KOA Reckoning and Mass Effect 3.

What's with all the hate on Catherine? It's a great unique game in what seems like a sea of clones. Were the puzzles too hard for you guys or something?

Yea IMO the Uncharted 2 campaign was better than Uncharted 3's (barely) but Uncharted 3 is still by far the best PS3 game this year.
Actually, i'll go out and say its the best console game this year.

Most definitely. Uncharted 3, Battlefield 3, Batman AC, all run 20 million times better. Thank you IGN for making the correct choice, for once.

I really wish Skyrim deserved the nomination, but in that state it's in right now, any site nominating it for GOTY is losing all credibility to me.

This. Skyrim is good, but not GOTY material. It feels like a buggy partial game. I haven't played it much since release week, and I imagine I won't until they release the CK. However, it isn't a bad game. Just think it needed more time in the oven. Shoulda been less concerned with hitting the stupid 11-11-11 date, and more concerned with making a functional game.

This topic again? People have already laid out countless arguments about why Skyrim is a good game, but not deserving of Game of the Year. Skyrim [censored] usually choose to ignore these arguments and flame/moan/[censored]/etc. Normal Skyrim fans can usually hold a civilized conversation with the people who don't think Skyrim is GOTY, but still don't really throw down and evidence as to why it should by GOTY. *Sigh*

Can't that be said of almost every game? :teehee:

Exactly. IMO, it shouldn't have won VGA's GOTY.
Even if you aren't playing on PS3, you should realize that the game is nearly unplayable on one of its major consoles, so that alone should take away all its GOTY nomination besides the XBOX and PC Games of the Year.

PS3's game of the year is Uncharted 3.

Xbox360's game of the year is Batman Arkham City, even if it is not a Xbox Exclusive.

Best RPG of the year is Skyrim.

Game of the Year in general is Skyrim.

Character of the year is The Joker from Batman.

:)

This is not my opinion, this is what i read..

EDIT: Oh, and also MW3 is FPS of the year.. I don't know how, i think BF3 should have won... but anyways....

And what i'm saying is the VGA's winners.

Good.. Skyrim even on all platforms doesnt deserve a GOTY nomination. Gamers should not support unfinished products.

I don't get the hype UC3 gets. The game was so boring. I quit playing after chapter 9 and I honestly didn't want to go that far into it. I got chills every time I seen the stupid triangle symbol pop up on the screen because I knew once I pushed it I would have to sit through another cut scene I had no interest in watching. The amount of the game I played was more a video than a game. I personally didn't want to watch a movie I wanted to PLAY a video game. It don't help anything that Nathan Drake become extremely aggravating after the first 10 minutes of playing it. Seriously he can't walk in a straight line without lunging his head forward and downward as if he was a bull trying to ram through a cement wall? And why is he so touchy feely with other peoples belongings. I seriously spent a good portion of my time with the game making him feel up trash cans and house plants. Even though I was really sick of seeing the molester hand shake thing he has going on with inanimate objects. At first It honestly drove me nuts every time I accidentally got too close to a bookcase and he started feeling it up even though it was a good 3 feet away from him, BUT amazingly after seeing my 20th cut scene I was more contempt having him leave his fingerprints and possibly DNA all over the place than sit through another boring mini movie.

Also why was the aiming so dreadfully slow? Why was even the combat all around lame and boring? Why was it so tightly scripted to the point where I could tell exactly which ledge would give way before I even threw myself at it? Not to mention the treasure hunting, What exactly is the point in searching for treasure when all you have to do is walk around like a lunging drunkard and wait for a giant triangle to pop up? I seen maybe two treasure items myself in the game world the other 40 or so I found on accident when a triangle popped up and interrupted me rubbing the walls and people's cats.

I tried to use my PS3 from more than a movie player and all I got was a stupid game that is mostly a movie. Blah not my thing. It's another game series that would go unnoticed if it wasn't an exclusive. But since it is an exclusive the PS3 camp has to pretend it's the greatest thing ever just like all of the xbox kiddies praise Gears.

I don't know about Skyrim on the PS3, other than what I see online. What I do know, however, is that some months ago IGN published that article on how 'demon's souls would eat Skyrim's face', and how I haven't really taken their coverage of the game all too seriously since then.

no game is ever "finished", there is only completed to a satisfactory standard to warrant distribution.

and tbh despite all the issues people are having, I have preferred an "unfinished" TES to many of my "finished" games this year. Im not saying it couldnt have done with 6mo to a year extra in the cooker but the response you think is appropriate is kinda bull.

the PS3 issue is an entirely different situation however.

Reminds me of how Doom 3 ran on my old computer with a bit too much eyecandy :lmao:

No console game should run that badly, and what now worries me is that if my computer explodes my only other choice is a PS3 :cold:

I wont even defend that it should get GOTY for PS3, PC users hgave a playable game, so the heavyhanded anolysis over there is what it is, heavyhanded anolysis of a game that cant be optimized for millions of different computer setups. But the PS3 has one type of hardware. The fact its unplayable on the PS3 after X amount of hours does show on both the Playstation and Bethesda side that both companies should have ensured the hardware had the capabilities to run the software.

I wouldnt give it any PS3 exclusive awards either.

You should write a book.
And at least Uncharted 3 works, unlike this Skyrim P.O.S.

And you probably think its boring because you don't pay attention to the story. It is one of the most critically acclaimed stories of any video game in history, and scored the highest reviews out of any game in history.

I'd give Discs of Tron goty before this buggy mess. IGN is betatesda's gaming/review site of choice. As for being nominated for possible RPG of the year for PS3, look at how RPGs have evolved. When graphics took over and consoles started having better graphics than the arcades, it was less about gameplay, content, and more about what looks pretty. There really isn't much competition in the RPG genre. Almost everything is action RPG now. It may have been cool as a niche market, with games like zelda, secret of mana, crystalis, and dungeon explorer, but many action rpgs are closer to arcade fighting games (like final fight, but with level ups and spells) than the countless turn-based games that were released using an ad&d 2nd edition rule-set or similar.
