Steam, etc Deals

I gave $7, so that all 7 groups would get a dollar. I wanted to give more but I'm not able to give away tons of money right now.

I gave $10 to charity, each.

Hey guys, anyone who has bought the Humble Indie Bundle already can now download Samorost 2 for free! Just go to the email you got from Wolfire Games that contains the link to where you download the games, follow the link, and you should be able to download Samorost 2. Pretty damn nice of them.

Yeah, I saw that Antibody. Man, this deal just keeps getting better and better. I'm glad that there are still some companies out there that aren't all corporation-like and are just in it to make fun games and get them out to as many people as possible.

I bought the Humble Indie Bundle for $7 as well (to developers), as well as preordering Amnesia with its 50% discount (today is the last day).

Disappointing to see that Samorost 2 is a Point and Click game. That's pretty much my most hated type of video game. Oh well, it was free, so I can't really complain, I guess. :sadvaultboy:

I haven't seen too many midweek deals on Steam lately unless I am not paying attention. Anyone know what the deal is this week? Looks like it might be Shattered Horizon.

Well, good job guys. We managed to raise just over a million dollars from the Humble Bundle. :)

The offer's just been extended, in honour of making the games open-source. So you can still grab the Humble Bundle!

Thought you guys might be interested in http://www.moddb.com/mods/dear-esther, a free Half Life 2 mod. It's an interactive fiction rather than a game, but it's quite haunting. I liked it, anyway.

Yeah I 'played' it once. It was pretty cool, as long as you're not expecting a game or anything Half Life like.

Of course, an entire thread could be dedicated to freeware games...

Indeed it could. I was going to make one, but then I decided hardly anyone would have played it, or would decide to play it <_<

Steam is giving away Portal for free.

EDIT: Until the 24th. The servers seem to be pretty jammed up now.

But I fairly sure* that if you attach it to your account now, it will stay there forever.

*Not 100%, but it certainly looks too be so.

Yup, but you can't play it after the 24th unless you buy it.

I'm guessing it requires an internet connection to play then or something? Otherwise people could just stay in off-line mode...

On the http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1265332, at the bottom, a (note: volunteer) moderator stated that it will remain on your account for free after the 24th.

But if you ask me, it's all very confusing. But portal doesn't show up in your library until you "buy" it so it doesn't work like the free weekends and when you get portal it gets registered to your account (I just installed it on my brother's pc) so I guess it might actually remain free if you get it now.

It's probably to give mac users who didn't have a steam account yet a reason to keep steam installed with the hope that they'll buy more games for their account in the future.

And given that they'll be release Portal 2 http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Valve_Time, its hardly going to hurt their profit margins. Overall, I'd say its was a great decision, business-wise (not that I'm in any way qualified to make a proper assessment of such things :P).

Tropico 3 is $7.50 right now. There is also a $20 expansion pack that adds a bunch of new stuff.
