Strange Encounters #2

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 10:25 pm

Yeah it's pretty horrifying in all honesty. I only noticed it when I saw a note on a pedestal denoting the cult having to prepare children's bodies for burial.
There's a note too? HowTF did I miss all of this? :o I'm usu pretty good about checking every corner of every room. Maybe since that's such a huge dungeon I was a little burned out by the time I got to that room. I went back last night and went all the way through, but didn't see the note. Maybe I'll go back right now since everything should still be dead. :P

That's the stuff of nightmares....
As they used to say on Mystery Science Theater 3000: "Nightmare fuel." :o

I had another encounter with an errant courier, this time in Blackreach.

There was an Imperial courier who stopped on that bit of flooded roadway, facing one of the lift towers. After a little while he tried running again, but ran into a stone block and stopped to think some more. I ran past and activated the gate release, and he ran up to the gate just as the spears were coming down, so he stopped again. I went in to stand on the lift platform, thinking he'd take the hint, but he just stood there. So I went over to speak to him, and he gave me the usual spiel about joining the Legion. With that, he proceeded to the platform, where I joined him. He reached down and made the motion of throwing the lever, but nothing happened. I threw the lever but, as he wasn't a follower, he didn't come with me. I opened the upper gates so he could get back into Skyrim, and went down again. Just as I arrived I heard the lift sound again, and he was gone.

I still wish I knew how he fell through to Blackreach, unless... hm. He did come from the direction of where I entered, so my unlocking Blackreach must've enabled him to get in.

He is taking the longcut from dawnstar to windhelm

Not sure if this fits here, but I saw the Headless Horseman the other day - and I know this looks like one of those UFO pictures, but I swear that weird looking star above and to the right of the crosshair is him flying into space for no reason:

I've had a Nord, Imperial, and Argonian have a go at me for no reason.

This I believe is a part of Boethiah quest, maybe not part of the quest itself but as you may remember from Oblivion, Boethiah had these tournaments where members of a race were pitted against each other. I haven't actually paid attention whether these encounters end once you've done with the Boethiah quest, maybe they do end, if not then they're still trying to prove themselves, poor svckers.

As for dragons then I've had cases where in those small towns I get 2 or 3 dragons, not often but has happened. What never happened before was this - I went to Windhelm to do some quest and arrived at the stables. As I usually do, I waited a bit, looked around to be sure that there's no dragon swooping down. Swooping is bad, you know. All was clear. So I moved on over the bridge, entered Windhelm through the gate and was heading towards the gate leading to the docks when suddenly an Elder Dragon flew screeching over my head while I was INSIDE Windhelm. Now that has never happened before to me, that the dragons appear inside the big citys. So out came my spells and my sword and I started chasing it and nuking it, all those houses blocking my way and people running around like headless chickens didn't make it exactly better. It hovered a bit above the keep entrance blasting the guards, then flew around some more. Eventually me and the townsfolk - but mosly me - had done enough damage so it landed behind Candleheart Inn, on the stairs leading to the keep entrance. That's where I killed it. When it died, literally the whole city came together to watch the dragon skeleton.

When exploring the ruins of Helgen Keep, near the cave exit I found a neatly stacked pile of boots and gloves. I can't get the screenshot to upload, though.

I wonder if he would've zoned with you if you pulled the lever while he was talking.

It's merely a Thalmor Weather Balloon, Talos Worshipper. Nothing to see here - move along...or do you have something to confess?

Here is a good one; meet http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/558686660294326016/1925B6D4C619CFA07A661125819670880942A8FC/, the hardest working bard in Skyrim. He's a friendly bard who, well, wanders the land and will play a variety of tunes for you for a few coin.

I've run into him several times, and I had one odd encounter when I spotted something from afar. Some movement in the trees near a main road. Upon investigation, I found him http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/469736513713701314/F5FB7BA76F8899B4539EEA86CA80DE3C5A6AAF4F/ mining some ore! I guess the bard gig is harder than it looks to make a living.

If you do run into this guy, give him some coin... save him from ruining his hands on all that manual labor.

Recently I was trailing an Arrogant Noble on Horse random encounter, and then decided to hide in the shadows; for the Noble ordered his guard to escort him into the courtyards of old Bromjunaar... the ruins now known as Labyrinthian. Did they fail to smell the Ice Trolls which were there? No matter; for now their wealth is mine, and four sealed bowls of troll fat with it.

Not anymore. In my assassin chick's game I came across him on the 653rd step of the 7000 steps to High Hrothgar where he decided to fight the Ice Troll and lost. I chose to run by them as they were fighting as I was running late for an appointment.

Nice. He threatened me with having his guard attack me so that was enough.

Found a dungeon below Whiterun jail that leads to the Guards Barracks.

So I was on my 10-ish level Orc wandering near Silent Moons ruin, near Whiterun, when I saw the bandits camped there running down the steps like crazy attacking something at the bottom. I was curious so I cautiously crept nearer. They killed whatever it was and one of the bandits looked up and saw me. He drew his bow and shot at me but missed. There had been a couple of mammoths crossing behind me and the bandit's arrow apparently hit one of them, because the mammoth ran past me and waded into the mob with tusks flying. Everyone was shooting arrows and yelling and a couple of mages were firing shock bolts. The mammoth takes out everyone, even chasing one of the mages up the steps to stomp him. Then he wanders off, and I went over to check out the bodies. Easiest loot I ever made! And, from what I could see, what the whole group of bandits was attacking when I first came on the scene was a mudcrab.

Hilarious. I would've gone over to cast Heal Other on the mammoth just to be a dike.

The jails in Solitude, Windhelm, and Whiterun all have escape routes that can be used to escape jail unnoticed, and they paths even have holes in the wall and such that allow you to loot the "Prison Belongings" chest if you can manage to pick the lock with the one pick you smuggle into the cell. After you use any route once, though, it's sealed up and can't be used again.

I recently found a dragon wall on the open map and moved toward it - and I'm the type of player that doesn't frequently take the easy path to get to locations (I'll spam the triangle button on my PS3 in order to jump/scale up mountainsides, when possible). Ultimately, I approached the wall by coming down the mountain behind it. The dragon was sleeping and I was sneaking. Looking down at the sleeping dragon, I armed my fire-enchanted Daedric bow, buffed by an almost-complete Archery perk tree (skill 100, with most perks taken except for a few that I skipped) and gear that allows for an additional 115% of bow damage, and fired....

The dragon took off like a gunshot! It was practically instantaneous!

He was probably having a happy dream of Alduin praising him in front of his peers... or maybe even making a small hamlet quake in fear of his presence... then OH HOLY CRAP THERE'S AN ARROW IN MY BUTT!!!!
