The Skyrim Dead Is Dead Thread

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 8:09 pm

Welcome to the Skyrim Dead Is Dead thread.

*ATTENTION* When posting updates on your character, If it contains information on areas, items, enemies or anything that is beyond general information, wrap those lines in spoiler tags. Do not let this keep you from telling your adventure. It is encouraged for people to post a description of where you are at and what you are doing.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the people that contributed to making the DID playstyle a part of the Bethesda Softworks Forums. The initial thread began, and still resides, in the neighboring forum of Fall Out New Vegas. The founder .46ACP (Gunny) who was inspired by Longknife.

For the support of a DID community, I would like to make an Honorable Mention for Sten The Ugly.

The http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1248083-the-dead-is-dead-thread-9/ OP is maintained by Gunny

The http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1250157-the-oblivion-dead-is-dead-thread-ii/ OP is maintained by SENIOR CINCO

The http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1244573-the-morrowind-dead-is-dead-thread/ OP is maintained by Murandus

Now for the basics. If you are unfamiliar with, or would like to know more about the DID playstyle. Please visit the http://graveyard.wikia.com/wiki/Dead_is_Dead:_A_gaming_playstyle_choice page, in the http://graveyard.wikia.com/wiki/The_Graveyard_-_A_Dead_Is_Dead_gamplay_site_Wiki.

Just one rule...Dead is Dead.

1) When your character falls in battle or falls from a cliff, that's it. They are dead. Game over. No reloads. Feel free to restart, with the ole "I or II", after their names. If you so choose.

*Exception*
...If your character falls due to a glitch, the game locks up or due to any outside action and/or distraction ( kids / pets / mother-in-law ) at no fault from the player. No shame will fall upon you to revert to a previous save.

NOTE : Difficulty has no bearing in DID. It should be set, according the comfort of the player. Pending things like character build, roleplay, limits, mods, and experience, this can easily vary among players.

If you want to try a run, feel free to list your new characters, with a backstory if you like. As well as, their starting stats and limitations.
Update your progress. Much like the "Where are you now", thread. It's really not any different from most of your guy's/gal's playstyle...aside from the dead and done part.

When and if that happens, post their name, date of passing and any info you want to reflect on their tomb. I will list them in the OP, so they will be forever remembered.

Player Tomb Listings :

1) I will list the players in alphabetical order.

2) The graves, of your fallen characters, will be added to your Tomb.

3) Any info on your char will be added, to their grave, according to your post.

4) Each character's grave will be limited, to 7 lines of info, for simplicity and unity. I will be more than happy, to tie a link to your character's name for pics and stats.

5) The Tombs will have a heading, with the players user name.

*NOTICE*
...With regards to the memorial...If you commit to a DID, your character dies and you post " My dude died, on such and such, but I'm going to continue playing him/her", OR you play with a varied version, like restarting from a "half-way point". That is NOT Dead Is Dead and you will NOT get added to the graveyard. This prompted a lot of frowns and nasty comments, in the other forum. So, we can prevent this before it happens.

Thank you for participating and enjoy your game.

Name: Blade 'n' Bone, Speak to ME!!!

Race: Nord

Age 30

Level: 8

Class: Barbarian

Here lies Blade 'n' Bone, fair hero and member of the Companions Guild. He was taken down by a group of bandits, and irony presents itself that he did not bring a companion of his own to help him.

I'm not providing a pic for BnB because he's just the generic Nord male without customization.

But as soon as I start I'll post my adventures here.

Also I'm adding some more rules to the DiD formula and you can see them on the link in my sig.

Good luck fellow masoch... I mean adventurers!! :foodndrink:

Already started my first DID character, my Battlemage Julius Corvinus. I've been playing on Master but man... I may have to drop it down to Expert. It might be because I haven't really pursued the main quest and therefore haven't gotten any shouts yet, but the combats fairly tough. Especially against multiple opponents.

Well, I see we have a few starters. Hmmmm, I to join the ranks.
Name - Sonoura
Race - Breaton - I was going to make her a Altmer, until I started playing with the creator. She's HOT!

As a matter of fact, she looks just like the original Sonoura, back in Divinity 2. Eyes and everything!

I will run her as a pure mage. Sonoura's main gig is Conjuration. So the starting advantages of tyhe Breton support that. I'm running with the adept setting until the game makes me select otherwise. She is about half way through the tutorial. She has named her summoned familiar Hal.

@ Renee : It's not MY graveyard. It's OURS. I don't expect to see you any time soon.

I wasn't going to do this, but I can't pass up a challenge, even if it means dying at level 1.

I'm going to do two main characters, and just to avoid any confusion - the one in my link is NOT the D-I-D play-through. I'll edit this post once I actually have the game and can figure out what my D-I-D character is going to be. Sounds like a fun challenge!

Thread watched, and I'll be around.

Since I work nights, I think I am going to hold off on adventuring until tomorrow night after work. I may boot the game (Steam digital copy) tonight to run through the very beginning to the character creator and save. Of course I will probably be tempted to play more and stay up really late. lol But I hate the fact that my play will be broken up by going to work tomorrow in the evening.

Then again, I got next week off, so I guess I can't complain. :P

Anyway, I will be back around later to post the details for Ronan the Redguard, my first character on my blind Skyrim DID playthrough. First bit of trivia: The name isn't a play on Conan. I just always liked the name (Ronan) itself. It's close to ronin, and in a way that's kind of what this character will be, a little bit of a masterless samurai theme.

Anyway, looking forward to sharing stories with all of you fine, brave folks! I especially look forward to you pure mage types sharing your experiences on the difficulty, as I'm going to avoid magic to start.

Nope. The rule is:

THERE'S NO CRYING IN SKYRIM.

Seriously, your tears will freeze and you'll die.

I did more than a half dozen D.I.D.'s on Fallout: New Vegas. It's a good challenge and adds a huge sense of realism to the game. Although I don't do D.I.D. 's for New Vegas anymore as I now prefer adding many mods to make the game as difficult as I can handle without turning my weapons in to wet noodles.

Senior Cinco had a really cool D.I.D. character called sandwichead in New Vegas. The story telling was marvelous of the heavy roleplaying and it was a tragedy when he died, but epic.

Farthest D.I.D. I ever got was level 37 out of level 50 in New Vegas with my Ranger Willard character and completed 3 out of 4 DLC's. Very few have ever beaten the entire game + DLC's without a scratch, like maybe 2 or something like that. And that was with running a lot of difficulty mods. In fact my death was due to a mod. Normal/hardcoe.

There is one guy I know for sure who did it easily, but he ran no mods, played on normal/hardcoe, and always stocked lots of variety chems to give him the max 85% damage resistance whenever he got into a hot spot.

I have planned my very first character very well, so well that I plan to stay with the same character for several months. But after I have milked every possible thing I can possibly do in Skyrim and months and months have passed I will probably do a D.I.D. on my second playthrough. So I'm in for D.I.D., just not on my first character.

Nord - Swords/Axes/Shields/Daggers - no magic except for restoring health - Stealth/Lockpick - Heavy Armor for combat...Light Armor/Clothing for infiltration missions. That's it. Very laser focused.

Todd said, "Your going to level fast...real fast". Obviously he didn't mean that for a specialized character. Using only Conjuration as a primary means of damage. Sonoura is just over 4 hrs in and has yet to reach level 2. She has picked up a couple of new spells. One happens to be Fury. I have never had so much fun avoiding combat. Well, I take that back. When I first created Sonoura, it was more of a gag play than anything. I tried going through Divinity 2, using Summon only. As it turned out, she became my fav char.

This game is much different from Obl. So I'm still on a learning curve. But it is a lot better. We entered a cave full of bandits. Sonoura was able to isolate the first two, one at a time. She caught the eye of the first dude by showing a little leg. He runs in and turns the corner, face first into the mouth if a summoned teeth. The second one met munch the same fate.(see what i did there?)

The next two spotter right off. Here they come. Sonoura hits them with a shot of Fury, and jumps down into some water. The two go at it, ignoring the Busty Breton. She was close enough to the edge of a bridge, she called up Hal. He spawned on the bridge and took off. I never herd from the Bandits again.

Sonlura slips down the passage. She came up on a wooden wall that had some boards missing. There was a small room on the other side, that was lit up enough, we could see a chest. Hmmm...Something's very fishy about this. Sonoura raised her hand and shot a summon spell through the openongs in the wall. Sure enough, there was someone there. Bad thing is, the room was a cadge. Poor old Hal had no where to go.

This bandit was female. Oh boy! A cat fight! I'll get the jello!

So far she hasn't used any potions. Sonoura led the bandit chick to the campfire nearby. They played ring around the rosie, until Sonoura's magicka charged up enough and BAM! Hal tore into her like Pit Bull on a Mailman with a pocket full of hamburger. Don't have a clue where this will lead. Don't care. Well right now anyway.

Wait...what's that? I thought I herd somet...

Kinda nervous about doing a DiD character on the first run but I'll give it a shot.

Name: Baro'thor
Race: Orc
Age: 25 Seasons

You would never think that the tall, broad shouldered Orc you just brushed past is actually the great War Chief Garo'thor's only son. He walks with a hunger in his eye that says he has one thing on his mind: vengeance.

Baro'thor was groomed from birth to take the place of his father. He had been trained in every weapon from swords to axes, from bows to claymores, crafted his first set of armor when he was only 4 seasons old, and claimed his first kill at 7. He learned how to track, hunt, and skin anything with a heartbeat. Young Baro'thor often dreamed of one day his father passing down to him the fabled axe of their great bloodline, Syth's Bane. According to legend, the axe was a gift from the dragon Sytherkol who gave the axe to Terok'thor, Baro'thor's great great great great grandfather. The axe handle was fashioned from a one of Sytherkol's teeth while the axe head was formed from a scale off of his hide.

One night, an assassin crept into the War Chief's tent and slew him in his sleep and stole Syth's Bane. Baro'thor was awoken by the commotion and tried to stop the assassin from getting away but he is still only 9 seasons old. All he manages to do is rip an ear off the assassin before he is knocked unconscious by the larger Orc. When he finally comes to, he is surrounded by his fellow clansmen but he is quick to notice they are holding a bloody dagger and asking him why he did it. He can't believe what he is hearing! They are accusing him of murdering his own father so that he could become War Chief! Even with the ear belonging to the true assassin, they don't believe him. Young Baro'thor is banished from the village, told never to return.

He doesn't know what to do so he wanders in the nearby foothills reluctant to truly leave his home. As he is tracking a deer, he happens upon a tent in a valley. H approaches the tent and right before he pulls back the flap, a hand grabs him and spins him around. Scared Baro'thor is looking into the milky white eyes of no other than Rek'thgar, the mystical shaman. After Baro'thor tells Rek'thgar his story, the wise shaman tells the young Orc he already knew because the forest had already told him what had happened. He tells the Orc that he will tell him where to find the ones responsible for his father's death but first he will give him the tools to defeat them. So for the next several seasons, Baro'thor learns the shaman ways and grows into a fierce warrior, always wearing the necklace he made from his father's assassin's ear. Finally after Baro'thor's 25th winter, Rek'thgar tells him that the Orc he seeks is taking refuge in a place called Skyrim. With that Baro'thor says a quick prayer to his father vowing that he will retrieve Syth's Bane and restore his family's honor, picks up his sword and satchel and heads toward Skyrim.....
