This game is a big dissappointment

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 6:22 pm

If FO3 had the factions, story element, choices, more nv style dialogue, drawn characters and voice acting it would be better.
If NV had the exploration, was not as linear, more visual and mini story depth to locations, more stuff to find, more of the humour and certain other aspects it would be the best game on the market for many more years then it's likely to be even now.

If they both had more named npc's in areas to deal with, and every death of an npc would not respawn but actually mean something then I would die of joy.......
If if if if.

As a side note they knew the bomb was dangerous, they also knew without all the scrap metal and massive defensive crater to use as a base they would perish due to hostile envioments, as seen by all other settlements in the wasteland.
Only when the nutcases moved in did they actively stop trying to remove the bomb for fear of sparking anarchy.

I kind of lost interest in FNV too and haven't even finished the game. I really can't pin point anything about it but it just isn't grabbing me like FO3 did. I played FO3 numerous times and will probably reload it and play it again.

They could easily have built a well sheltered settlement with all that scrap metal though.

And the nutcases were none the wiser after the lone wanderer defused that bomb. He only needed 25 (?) explosive skill and could do it in bright daylight even with the cult leader right there beside him. Sorry, but that part of Fallout 3 did not make any sense at all.

Nope you're right, but I allways feel it's better to post a correct but stupid answer, than a wrong but brilliant one, it's a flaw of being pedantic.

All possible jokes aside it's silly yes, but so much is if you get too involved.
Just wait a few years and NV's carcass will be desicated and gnawed apon beyond all signs of that first rush of a playthrough, where you were still figuring out how to feel towards its events.

The bomb in Megaton was leaking radiation. Why would anyone with half a brain build a town around an object that makes people sick?

The Courier is special because the jobs he does is extremely dangerous. He's not some 16 year old with no experience that just wandered out of the vault. The Courier's job is to deliver high value items to important customers by going through dangerous territory. The Courier was obviously very good at his job, otherwise Mr. House wouldn't have hired him to carry his most prized possession. NCR and Legion want to use the Courier because he has access to Mr. House.

Um, Church of the Children of Atom worship that bomb. It's pretty well known that there are some odd beliefs in the world. This is one of them. The members of the Church of Atom believe death is to be celebrated and that each atom represents an entire universe. They were the ones there at the begining of the construction of Megaton and thus, as folks passed through they settled there also out of necessity. Though, those not a member of the Church of Atom recognized the danger and wanted it dismantaled. Maybe they could have gone back out into the wastes but they risked less in Megaton with that unexploded bomb than they did out on their own.

Maybe not the most logical beginnings, but...as I said, we do illogical things in times of danger and everything was dangerous when Megaton was built.

some definite flaws to the whole idea, but hey. what could be more fallout than the first town you enter contains a giant, unexploded, nuke!

Most everything?

There's a reason there was only one nuclear weapon in the entirety of Fallout 1 and it was an endgame solution.

He could have been one....such is part of the freedom which NV offers.

Not really. If you ask around, people will tell you that being a Courier is a dangerous and specialized job. Plus considering how Mr. House screened the people he hired to deliver the chip, there's no way that he would have chosen some nobody with zero experience.

That doesn't make any sense either. How does a church that willingly expose its members to radiation expand or survive? How did its leaders like Cromwell and Maya survive to old age if they spent their time praying next to an atomic bomb that was bombarding them with radiation? Plus how does the rest of the town stay healthy if they're constantly exposed to radiation from the bomb?

Also, Megaton is a rip off of a town called Gravestone in FO: Tactics. Gravestone was nuclear launching site and the people who lived around the area became ghouls and began worshiping the last remaining nuke. That actually made a lot more sense than Megaton since ghouls are immune to radiation and the ghouls who worshiped the bomb actually witnessed the destructive power of atomic weapons first hand. Plus they had more appropriate names and their sermons were a lot more amusing.

The same way Ghouls did? Exposure to radiation?

I really don't think either one is very logical but I sure enjoy having both in my games.

I dont know why there are so many people that say Fallout 3 was so much better. yeah, it was an awesome game, but imo, the story blew. there was hardly any choice until the very end of broken steel. i got so sick of being forced to help a group of power-armored tribals with backwards ideals.

That's the art of story telling. A great story won't have you be able to choose who the main character sides with... when have you EVER come across a book where you could choose your own destiny? RL Stine? Really?

It's so childish (i'm not saying it directly to you) to want to be picky and be able to choose this or that... sometimes you get stuck with something and have to appreciate it for what it is. In new vegas, I wanted the Yes Man end to be a really cool, positive ending but for me, it seemed like the absolute worst choice you could make.

All of the factions ARE cookie cutters of the other ones, look at what you do for each endgame questline... the SAME things visiting the SAME places. So it's not offering you a variety of choice and what if you want to say "I don't like any of them, I want to fight for myself and myself alone, and want to have my character be smart enough to run vegas ON THEIR OWN" and not have it be a pile of crap with crime and vice all over the place? You can't...

With Fallout 3, I loved the story line. It was so mysterious. You never knew for the first time how it was going to fold out, what Project Purity meant, hell, for me, I thought it was some kind of genocide machine thing that would get rid of all the bad people, I didn't know it was a water purifier and to have it hooked up to the jefferson memorial... was pure gold. Bethesda made a unique use of every little nook and crany, nothing was left untouched. There were even unmarked things on the map that were special. THat's why I like it so much.

It was like a good story, and who cares if you are forced to side with one or the other? You can side with the enclave you know... jeeze been to broken steel? You can blow up their entire base with the AFB crawler... you can poison the water for president Eden and kill everyone except for them... you may not be a Sergeant Major wearing Enclave armor and all of the enclave guys love you... maybe not, but you can forward their goals and help them out just as much as you help out the brotherhood.

I'm sorry, it's rediculous to make all the fallout 3 fans out like idiots... I'm not an idiot and being told that i'm some bland, knowledgeless fool who can't tell what a good game from a bad game is... now that's going too far.

One minor thing in this game... the power armor for the remnants suxx nutz hardcoe. It looks so UGLY. Where did the sixy armor go to? Lol... sorry, that was a total child moment, I know, i'm sorry.... but for real.

I can connect with characters better in fallout 3 than NV... like Mr. New vegas has NOTHING on three dog. Three Dog is so full of life and tells of your exploits better and you can actually meet him flesh in blood and even kill him if you wish. President Eden is so sinister, but you can see a real logic behind his thinking which makes him so intriguing. Fawkes. Nuff said. Lily doesn't have anything on fawkes in my opinion. Elder Lyons. He really does care about the wastes and you can see he desperately wants to do the right thing. A man who was given a mission, but sees that his desire to show mercy upon people who have been depraved for so long overrides whatever his superiors tell him to do. THAT my friends, is a true leader. The NCR just does whatever it's told... never thinking for itself or outside the box.

There are tons of others out there like the vault overseer for 101, Amata, the girl you could never have for a friend or perhaps more, going back to bitter sweet memories, your home destroyed and a shell of what it formerly was, a heavy feeling of regret for doing what you did and a heartache that will last a lifetime knowing that there is nothing you can do or say to help out your family in the vault, leaving them as a huge steel door closes upon them for perhaps the last time. You'd have to be a block of steel not to be touched at all by something like that. I'm sorry.

Even the DLC characters got to me, like Ashur from the pit. You know he's not all bad, and he regrets having to do what he did heavily but saw that the bigger picture mattered more than personal comfort and will even fight you to the death over taking his daughter. Mothership Zeta, you listen as people who were abducted describe the area around them in mystery and wonder, only to have the fear and realization of their death fall upon them. The samurai who became friends with a little girl, not only can he not understand the group, but he will never be able to integrate into society or have any purpose in the world anymore, the world he left is now far gone down the river of time. And as you go up to the bridge of the mothership, you see a majestic view of a place you call home, seeing the once blue and green earth now brown and murky grey.

I could go on and on and on and on all day.

DOES THAT MEAN I HATE NEW VEGAS? Absolutely not. I don't love it, but it's not bad either. Plenty of good things about it like the new weapons, concepts and what not, mods, skill requirements, etc... new useful perks, custom ammo, armor system, more quests, tougher creatures etc...

It's the shiny objects that keep me invested in vegas, not the story or personalities... I feel no conection to any of them that I had in fallout 3.

They are both good in their own right however i'd have to say fallout 3 is a better value in terms of what game to get. It just seems that way to me is all i'm saying.

Except they're not ghouls. They're humans, which means that radiation should be harmful to them. They aren't even becoming ghouls, which means that they lack the genes required for the ghoul mutation.

I felt the exact opposite when it came to connections to the characters. Jesus christ did anyone other than one other person actually read the text for that quest?....

Sigh...

Okay, here's the thing, the megaton settlers came into megaton area and the needed the help and scrap metal along with other items that the Cult of the Atom had. They WANTED to get rid of the damn thing numerous times and were well aware of the threat, however, they had no where else to go and the smart thing to do was to just deal with the circumstances and set up shop instead of trying to wander around, probably into a deathclaw nest. They needed help from the cult in order to get megaton up and running, so they compromised, the cult could stay there and worship the bomb, and the settlers could have a place to live.

As for moira's delusions... that's her character. Did you do her quest? Probably not since you don't get her personality, which is thoroughly fleshed out through the quest. THings she asks you to do that make you go ?WTF? You can even react like that in dialogue and she will just be optimistic about any situation, like being goulified...

I'm not trying to make anyone sound like an idiot but come on people, it was all right there in the quests, you just had to dig a little and listen to what they said. They give you answers for things, and when they dont', you have to make your own answer to a situation, like project purity and what not.

I don't know... let's just all agree that we are all different.

And that fallout 3 is a far superior game and obsidian suxx. LOL JUST KIDDING GUYS

but seriously though... some like orange juice, some like apple... realistically, it's pretty much the same thing going down your gullet like these games I guess, some people, me included, fail to realize that even though both games might seem different, they both succeeded in what they were designed for, making us waste money, and time on them both as is the goal for any game developing studio.

Meh, that's your thing then man, I won't rain on your parade, I myself liked boone and Arcade but fawkes was so interesting, notice I never mentioned that I myself loved all the companions, I only touched on fawkes, but I get what you were thinking though.

I guess that's the beautiful thing about human nature then eh? Being able to LOOK at the same thing but SEE something different.

I agree with TS. there is no noble quest for humanity. it is just the who fit in charge. that's all. nothing else nothing more. it is just like, i don't like you, you are out and they are in. if i don't like all, I kill them all. lol.

I can spent Hours in DC ruins., metro tunnel and in FN ? 5-10 minutes. they have only few shacks and caves. that's all.

I am kind of guessing why there is no DLC ? i think they just realise it is a mistake to release the game that does not have the story to stick with.

Or because the game was only released a month ago and they haven't had much time to put DLC together. Besides, they already announced the first one.

Fallout: New Vegas is a success and it seems that is disheartening to some.

On a side note, I don't believe that any reasonable person would say that liking Fallout 3 over Fallout: New Vegas or vice versa is a bad thing. There's nothing wrong with a story that has a fixed path. However, I personally prefer having at least some flexibility, as a gamer, in how I prosecute my gaming experience. I want to have some say in how things turn out. I liked Fallout 3 because it was big and the story had the usual evil-conquering-good overtones (I like heroics) but Fallout: New Vegas gives me more flexibility with how to accomplish that, not to mention that the story itself and the inhabitants of the Mojave are far more fleshed out and interesting.

There's nothing wrong with having an opinion regarding a product so long as you don't try to say/imply/infer that people that disagree with you are stupid/childish/ignorant.

I also don't know who came up with the false theory that Fallout 3 doesn't contain choices, but it does.

Indeed- choice of which skill to max first before maxing all the rest anyway, which SPECIALs to max early instead of maxing them later with Almost Perfect and Bobbleheads, which quest ending to start first so you can get both the uber plasma rifle and the uber VATS perk...

Choices a-plenty...and one or two of them almost have associated consequences beyond Daddy Dearest giving you a "wag of the finger" for annihilating an entire town. :P

Well panda, obviously you like NV and can't see the shine that fallout 3 has, and i'm the opposite >.>

I know you can find people who agree with you, and I know I can find people who agree with me. My point is that no matter what there's things anyone finds in any game appealing, i'm just stating my own personal opinion in this matter, not like it will do anything anways.

But you have to understand, a lot of NV shippers here will make anyone referencing to or liking fallout 3 as some really devoted fan type of creature who has no taste, no knowlege of what's good, etc... not all NV shippers, but a lot do that and dumb down any opinion against NV. Some fallout 3 fans will do the same, but there are more NV shippers here, obvoiusly than there are fallout 3 fans. I don't like a lot of CONTENT things about NV, but the add on things like new weapons and stuff, sure, I like that and it makes me want to play it more because I can actually use unarmed now lol. Some people will argue they love NV and fallout 3 is crap... w/e...

But new vegas, as others say, has no "good vs evil" appeal, there's no set side, even when we, the gamers, know that caesars legion is evil to the bone, and that the NCR is greedy as hell, and that Mr. House is really the only one trying to do anything positive there.... but even he is driven by his own desires. There's no "I'm in the general benefit of the wasteland" choice... if you side with CL, now, that's pretty evil, but even then, it's more greed and ideology gone wrong, than evil.

The logic behind eden's plan is simple as well as the geck thing. Eden doesn't want competition, much like Mr. House. He doesn't want to be diplomatic or wait for change... he wants to kill everyone who opposes him quick and easy without having to debate and such... that makes sense to me, use a virus to deal a quick one two punch and your competition is out of the way and now you only have people agreeing with your track of thought....

as with the geck, people can't use arable land there if there's no fresh water... sure, purify a little water and land, but that water will get irradiated quickly again and then you are screwed. The idea is this: Use old version of technology and adapt it for a new use that you need.... it seems pretty simple to understand for me but maybe my thought there is wrong or something, I think it's right and i'm sticking to that, but you can disagree.

Content wise fallout 3 has more to offer IMHO but that's not to say that NV doesn't bring anything to the table, just not as much me thinks...

oh well, i'm just waiting for Alinor and fallout 4 because, I like bethesda game studios... I like their way of designing things and I gave obsidian a look at, I don't like how they do things, and no, I wont buy another game from them, but hey, I gave them a look at, and I think that's the fairest thing one can do.

Oh well, I just hope they use the same system for leveling as Oblivion does, the realistic lvling system... I think general EXP is too archaic and I don't want to level up lockpicking by shooting people lol. But another argument for another time... eh?

There is definitely a FNV faction and a F3 faction. So you have a group of people that like the FNV storyline better and a group that like the F3 storyline better. For whatever reasons. For either side to say the other is stupid or wrong for liking either storyline better is ridiculous. It's a matter of taste.

But there is one thing for sure. Aside from the story, F3 has many more places, buildings, underground areas, more streets, just more freaking places that are bigger and multi-leveled than what FNV has. I just don't see how anyone can deny that. I'm always disappointed when I explore a new area in FNV because it's so small and the buildings are only one or two rooms or one or two floors and it's just kind of like "ok that's it?".

I'm honestly looking forward to a sequel to Fallout 3. I'm sure I'll have to wait years for it.

But I will still enjoy FNV for now. Especially when they get all the glitches fixed. I imagine that will make it more enjoyable for a lot of people.

I can spent Hours in DC ruins., metro tunnel and in FN ? 5-10 minutes. they have only few shacks and caves. that's all.

Yep. Yep. I love F3 for the hours you can spend in the ruins and underground wondering when you are going to find your way out. It's fabulous. And then when I do find my way out I can pop home to Megaton and go through one door to get to my house.

On the flip side, like you said, 5-10 minutes exploring in FNV. And then, just as much time getting in to my room at the Lucky 38. It's exhausting and not in a good way. I'm exaggerating about the time it takes to get into the hotel room at the Lucky 38 of course, but you know what I mean. :)

It's the shiny objects that keep me invested in vegas, not the story or personalities... I feel no conection to any of them that I had in fallout 3.

This is exactly how I feel. I miss a lot of the characters in F3. I miss the way the personalities at Rivet City used to talk to each other. And Shrapnel complaining about his burnt steak. If the personalities in FNV are not talking to you they don't do anything interesting or endearing. All they do is bump into each other and get stuck in clumps or walk around aimlessly. I miss sitting on the couch between Flak and Shrapnel and their snarky attitudes. I even miss how annoying Moira is.

I do feel a connection to my companions in FNV, but not any of the other personalities. They are kind of bland.

...but seriously though... some like orange juice, some like apple... realistically, it's pretty much the same thing going down your gullet like these games I guess, some people, me included, fail to realize that even though both games might seem different, they both succeeded in what they were designed for, making us waste money, and time on them both as is the goal for any game developing studio.
Orange Juice and Apple juice are both great... but would someone accept Apple juice as a substitute for orange juice in a drink (like a 'http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screwdriver_%28cocktail%29')?
Many people prefer one of the games (or juices) over the other, and many like both, but usually like each in it's place. (no Apple screwdrivers, or using orange juice cider)

I think FO3 is a great game ~but not a great series game... in the sense that I don't personally think it inappropriate as a direct numbered sequel.
There is nothing wrong with FO3, save that it its just not enough like Fallout 2.

For easy comparison.... just look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cxzw3rLHQ3w and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNZTLf0GeX4&feature=related. DK2 was a fully 3d game based on the 2d DK1. The second game was completely new, and altered the rules a bit... but retained recognizable series gameplay. Look at Dawn of War, and Dark Crusade ~even Dawn of War 2... Diablo 2 and Diablo 3; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wg0q9E399oU and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uhcd85uCms&feature=related
Now http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSfwDgFeIHU and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1KlnCfNVlA? (and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmpdbyF5yjg

There is truth in the Apple and Orange [juice] comparison... and both taste great to most... but each still has their places where the other cannot be substituted and still provide what was expected (IE. Why you would choose a familiar series sequel with reasonably familiar gameplay over a new game with new gameplay); both can be good games, but......

Both FO3 & NV totally abandon the core gameplay of all the games in the series before FO3 (even though FO:NV takes a good side step in the right direction). This is why some dislike them.

The odd irony with New Vegas is that it has now come full circle and just as it was with Fallout 2 and 3 in 2007, the new game [New Vegas] gets the same discontent by the new fans for not being enough like the last game in the series.

I know you can find people who agree with you, and I know I can find people who agree with me. My point is that no matter what there's things anyone finds in any game appealing, i'm just stating my own personal opinion in this matter, not like it will do anything anways.

It doesn't matter to me how many people agree or disagree with me, that doesn't effect the merit of either game.

Some people will argue they love NV and fallout 3 is crap... w/e...

What content in New Vegas do you dislike and why is it bad? Can you demonstrate any plot failings, any inconsistant characters or poorly woven narrative threads? I can certainly do so regarding Fallout 3.

That doesn't mean I hate Fallout 3. Fallout 3 is a great game with awful writing.

New Vegas is nuanced, which is good. The 'good vs evil' theme has been done to death, and leaves both sides with no believability or humanity.

It isn't simple, it's absent. He doesn't have any competition and he isn't trying to debate any point or accomplish anything. He's just wiping out the population for the sake of it.

as with the geck, people can't use arable land there if there's no fresh water... sure, purify a little water and land, but that water will get irradiated quickly again and then you are screwed. The idea is this: Use old version of technology and adapt it for a new use that you need.... it seems pretty simple to understand for me but maybe my thought there is wrong or something, I think it's right and i'm sticking to that, but you can disagree.

The idea behind the GECK is to completely rework a large enough chunk of land to sustain a town, so that doesn't really work. Even if the need for a big water purifer made sense (..run the water through coal?), it doesn't justify ruining the only tool in the region that can make agriculture possible.

That reminds me... what exactly are people in the DC area eating? There is a fairly large population, old boxes of twinkies wouldn't sustain a population that large for a week, so they have to have some source of food. Most people say hunting, but what do the hunted animals eat? There is no grass, certainly not enough to sustain- eh, nevermind. Don't want to go into that rant.
