Skyrim doesn't use Facegen.
Yes it does. Read the fine print on the back of the Skyrim box.

Uses Havok
Uses Scaleform GFx
Uses Bink video
Facegen from Singular Inversions inc. FaceFx Software Reserved <----Says the same exact thing on the FO3 box.

Hmm, I wonder how easy it will be to change the frequency of ambient NPC pvssyr?

Some I'd like to decrease in frequency, like the spectral assassin >.> And ever since 1.3 NPC pvssyr in some places is non-existent, and 1,4 hasn't fixed it so I wonder if I could force a frequency change with a mod...
Indeed, I like this.

Skyrim doesn't use Facegen. I don't think we've been shown how the CS handles the face parts, but I imagine it's similar to MW's Bodypart tab.

Correct, yet facial emotions are handled differently now. In Oblivion the default FaceGen emotion values were used, the changes of the faces were calculated by FaceGen so to say. In Skyrim they are actual animations (HKX files). That probably means we will eventually be able to animate our own custom facial emotions.

Perhaps I spoke too rashly, I based the above on the fact that there are a good number of "dialogue" animations in the BSA archive, like "dialogueresponsenegativea.hkx". Not 100% sure if that includes facial animations though.

Does this mean that the lip files are also generated by a different sub-program? Meaning that we potentially will have access to the software in the CK this time!?

Read my edit please, I'm not 100% sure. Judging from the lack of facial emotions ingame and the presence of a large number of those dialogue animations, It does seem probable to me that the FaceGen emotions aren't used anymore.

I personally expect lip sync to work similarly to Oblivion, except that perhaps it might be more user friendly, like batch generating. Oh and hopefully not bugged this time like in the latest CS release. :biggrin:

It would be nice if mods could be packaged so each had its own file structure with overwrites occurring depending on load order instead of having to place everything in the data folder. You wouldn't even need a BSA for this, just a zip file or a folder named yourmodname.bsa or something like that.

Ohhh, those kind of animations. Yeah, those have nothing to do with facial animation. That's like, what the actor does with their body as they talk. I would then guess that the facial stuff is all the same.

And it wasn't bugged, to my knowledge, due to licensing issues they didn't destribute the portions neccessary to generate lip files. Though I certainly hope it was just a bug. That means that they can easily fix it, and that it would hopefully work in the CK... Batch generation would be wonderful! Like a 'Generate all lip files for this esp/esm' and it fills in the blanks, or overwrites or something.

The interface looks almost the same from the CS. Not that user friendly looking. Oh well, I'm still looking forward in the future for a realtime editor. Beth is really behind on this kind of tech.

It would be nice if they at least gave us access to the wiki over the weekend, even if the CK isn't ready to use...

Thanks for the links , Ashiraniir, for whetting my thirst. I am more anxious for the release of the CK than I was for Skyrim itself.

interesting, in first picture, you can clearly see on the bottom of the page that it was last modified dec 1 and has been viewed 992 times.

judging from the video, steam workshop doesn't seem to be amazing (doesn't seem bad at all, but doesn't seem worth it).

so, hopefully I'm wrong in either of 2 ways (or both):
1) steam workshop is better than the video let's on. {i say it isn't}
2) steam workshop integration is not the reason for the 3 month delay of the CK. {i say it was. that does not mean i think it would've been released at launch, but simply a delay of < 3 months}

from bethblog: "And special kudos to Joel Burgess (who originally brought up the idea of using Steam Workshop) for shepherding this process along the way."
if I'm right on both counts, Joel, you will get no such special kudos from me. only a frowny face.

Also, read somewhere (could've sworn that it was a gstaff comment on the CK video page) that if the creation kit isn't released tomorrow, it will be released next week? wtf?!
that leads me to believe (more-so than before) that bethesda was largely finished with the CK for sometime now, and that the tie-up is Valve's fault.

I did throw that quote in the OP of this thread, it was from the last thread. And I too, from everything Gstaff has said, get the idea it's Valve fault for the most part. Now, granted basing that on the wiki edit date is stupid. The wiki would have thousands of pages, so it's not like they did all of them in a weekend or something.

I think I may write a letter (message) to Mr. Gstaff requesting that they release tomorrow and listing the numerous reasons why they should. I doubt it would have any effect, but I can sure as hell try.

Actually, it says "This page has been accessed 8,992 times." Likely just because they did all the editing of the page after creating the wiki. That being said, it shows that at least this page hasn't been worked on since December. Seems a bit odd.

Well at least at time of making the clip for the trailer. I imagine that it's been edited more recently than that. :shrug:
