Unofficial Minecraft Thread #80

Hello everyone. I'm new to minecraft - tried the demo and quickly bought the game the yesterday. Played a little on my own map, building a little house inside a cave with windows and everything! (that seems like a big deal to me!). Now I've ventured online to see what other people are doing. Joined your server and WOW! This is incredible. Died a couple of times wandering around the rorkistead houses in absolute awe (think I had to pick my jaw up from the floor at one point) and finally made it out.
Heh, that's how I first felt when I went on the 1.7 pvp map. Most people seem to make cave homes when they first play, but I didn't. I built a small cobblestone croft with a gravel floor. :P

Welcome to the server anyway, if you need a safe place until you build, there are free rooms available in the inn.

Ha!

On an unrelated note, I've realised that Martyr Island (Name likely to change) is a weird one. It's a desert island with a snowy forest on it >_> (1140,65,2566 on the dynamap)
Yeah, I gave up on looking for a place since I play on far view distance, every desert biome has freaking snow bordering it.
I saw that place before and planned to move there until I saw the snow forest beside it, I has a nice pond though. It's also a bit near my land :stare:
You're lucky I gave up then, I was going to build even closer to you. :P

I'm off to the gym now, but I'll be back in about an hour if enough people are on then to set up the new town.

I'll be on in an hour or two as well. Do you have a general location in mind? (please, no more snow)

GOOD NEWS EVERYBODY! We'll be setting up a town in the middle of a biome of snow 2,000 blocks wide in all directions!

I won't be on, but from a quick look around the Dynmap, there's 2 spots that pique my immediate interest:

x=400, z=-2350, is nestled amongst some hills with a small lake, looking out over a desert and with a nearby jungle.

x=1900, z=1575, is straddling a short river between a desert and plains biome, with ocean on both sides.

I also like the little island at 1650, -1775, or the concept of just wandering in a different direction (further south or west, probably).

I had been intending on wandering off West from spawn into the unknown, but actually the furthest explored area due West of spawn looks pretty good, as does that area at 400, -2350. Both are coastal and with enough flat land to easily build on, as well as nearby treesources (it's a word, honestly). They're also roughly the same distance from Spawn. I think due West would marginally get my preference.

I guess that gives us two choices - due West, the area around 400, -2350, or wandering off into the unknown. I'll see what the consensus is from those online at the time of setting off.

Was thinking of building an arena when tank installs the plugins that will make duels fair, anyone interested?

I was hoping to have a couple of arenas in the new town, similar to what we had in The City. Except this time round Bone, Skooma and I won't get stupid rich off Spleef competitions :P

Hmm, I was thinking of having a giant desert themed Colosseum (thank you Uber), that could maybe have special games, like battles utilising the heros plugin i.e mages vs knights or Black Mages vs White mages, or changing the arena battleground for different game types i.e having multiple towers for the gladiators to fight from.

Keeping track of share values was hellish. I had a thread on Jamie's forum dedicated to just keeping track of who owned how much of what, and how much it was valued at

That is more of a themed battle, that happens everyone now and then. I'd love to see multiple cities, with different arenas, and we'll have a plugin that allows you to fight other players in a 1 on 1 deathmatch or waves of mobs.

Doesn't seem to be much difference to me, but then I don't care much for combat in Minecraft.

Yeah, I was thinking of more regular events between less people, so everyone can take part (the time zone thing kind of affects people in The Hunger Games). Plus if there was multiple arenas in towns it could be a system to solve any disputes (RP-Wise), by say, a city sending its best mages/rogues/knights etc. to defeat the other city's best gladiator. The Hunger Games just seems too one-time.

Same reaction (absolute awe) when I first joined the server right after buying the game. ;)

Of course, I saw some video about the game before, but it's always more impressive when you can see it in game.
