Update 1.6 has mounted combat! Thread #2

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 8:08 am

God I just spent 45 minutes riding around hunting Elk, and and drive-by-arrow-to-the-knee'ing giants and mammoths. I freaking love this. Riding around on a horse with a bow and arrow has a very dramatically different feel to it than running around on foot. :D

Nah such aspects Shouldn't lie on the shoulders of modders imo, this way -EVERYONE- gets it, console users, people with crappy connections or aversions to mods in general this gets everyone, Its only a Boon to modders, one less thing to Code, and a staging point to improve and add on in my opinion

I mean come on...for the first time since Morrowind they are adding stuff.....FOR FREE...stuff people have been asking, I'm inclined to think my whining has paid off wasn't for nothing
Agreed MK, things like this should be enjoyed by everyone. In my humble opinion mods are meant to improve things and aspects you wish to change.

I am also happy that free content is coming this way it makes me remember back to Morrowind as well.

I think the "complaining" we do is finally getting some attention.

I would really like to have the option for first person and magic on my horses. Shooting a bow in third person is horrendous. Magic is almost just as bad in third.

I'll just consider my issue with no hud during mounted combat as an extra realism mod thrown in

I really have to tip my hat off to Bethesda for this. Normally a developer would just drop a game and be done with it. They however release things like this that most companies would call DLC and instead they call it patches. It's why I love them. Oh and the mounted combat? SO MUCH FUN!

This is pretty cool, now I can finally roleplay a mongolian horse archer character.

So they've (at least partially) fixed ranged kill cams, removed the atomic Nirnroot glow, among other bugs? Hell yes!
also, if this is what they're releasing in the updates, what the [censored] are they doing for Dawnguard? Now I'm getting so freaking psyched for whatever they've got waiting for us

Again:

Isn't this horrendously imbalanced? I mean from that vid it doesn't look like he's ever being hit.

Won't work in dungeons.

Seems inspired by Mount & Blade. But Mount & Blade's mounted combat system is better because it takes speed into account (the faster the speed, the harder it is to connect with a hit but the more damage you do) and enemies actually react to your hits.

Still finally, glad to see an AAA game finally has mounted combat, when an indie company has had it for years.

Just for anyone else having the no-hud issue, its not the patch. Just installed the game onto another pc with zero mods and the hud(s) are intact onscreen during mounted combat. Now comes the part of finding what friggin mod is the culprit.

Oh hey, this is a nice surprise, a big oft-requested feature like mounted combat getting put in with a free patch. Thanks!

And it works with bows too? This makes me want to come back to my archer character; horseback archery was always fun in the Zelda games.

Hopefully when the Dawnguard DLC disc is out it will include all this bonus stuff added in patches.

I am curious how this will change up things, I have read that it certainly is interesting and i have wanted mounted combat in this series for years.

Probably it will as I am guessing you will need the most recent patch to even play Dawnguard.

So, can I shout from horseback?

Ah, so magic isn't implemented. Presumably no shouts then, too.

no shouts, staves, or magic (so-far). I seriously would not expect Beth to keep it this way though.

I certainly hope so, there is no reason for all of those to not be used on a horse I hope they are all included.

Very true, I know the Shivering Isles disk added the patch, and if I remember correctly Morrowinds added the patch as well. So in saying that I have no reason to suspect they would not do that for Skyrim.
