Wonder if there will be any interesting files on this patch pointing to DLC? Just a thought
Can't wait to try this out

This is terrific news. Hope they finish up the beta soon. I gave up on riding horses because of the suicides. Shadowmere is fine but she runs off to chase the enemy and gets stuck in some awkward places.

please, tell me you're joking.

that's [censored] terrible.

That's normal. SKSE always needs an update when a new patch comes out; so does Script Dragon, because the TESV.exe is modified as part of the update.

Be patient. The SKSE team has been very, very good at updating very quickly. There's usually a new version of SKSE well before a beta patch gets drop-kicked out into the wild--sometimes even the same day as a beta patch pops up. Depends on how much work has to be done. For now, just don't opt into the beta for the next few days at least and you'll be fine.

I mean, SkyUI shows up, but it comes up with the SKSE error message.

Eh. Good for those that want this, I guess, but I'd be a lot more interested if horse riding wasn't forced third person.

Just another reason why Beth is the best. They're so far ahead in this industry it's becoming frightening.

Honestly....I never use horses anyway so this won't add anything at all beneficial to my game (PS3 player). Just a waste of an update IMHO.

N ow if they added something so you could reset your points, re-enchant any item, have an extra follower or two, or thralls that you can interact with, then I'll get excited. This horse stuff though....total Meh.

I'm guessing they didn't add the ability to talk to people while on horseback?
I've always hated dismounting to talk to people on the road. :(
Mounted combat is awesome and all, but I really just want general interaction while on a horse.

I assume there are no killcams but does the decapitation perk still work?
It would be sweet to charge into a big mob swinging a battleaxe with one hand lopping off a few heads as you go while your follower and summons wade into the throng.
NPCs need mounted combat too so you can engage enemy riders while the "troops" clash.
Imagine how epic the Civil War could be with battles like that... Join the Imperial cavalry today!
NPCs with mounted combat (and more NPCs on horses?) would change combat in this game dramatically... for a proper war with the Thalmor perhaps?

I hope future DLC makes use of this or develops it somehow.

I also reckon fighting dragons while mounted could be epic... bow, plus zoom and slow perks, galloping along parallel, taking aim... man it would be epic in 1st person.

Horse combat is neat. I actually found the other fixes to be the highlight, though; to me.

Apparently the navmesh bug has been fixed too. This is great news for modders, as it was seriously holding back some great mods. Interestingly, we've got 3 things from the Game Jam video in skyrim with the recent patches:
  • Ranged killcams
  • Enhanced underwater effects
  • Mounted combat
Makes me wonder what's next. I personally would love some graphics options like built-in SSAO (which should be much faster than forcing SSAO through other methods).

Wait, so one-handed, two-handed, and even archery can be used while mounted but we can't use magic? I hope it's a joke that you can use two hands for a bow but we can't use any Destruction magic or anything on horses. Can anybody confirm/deny?

In 1.5 there were record types that would suggest some kind of construction is being added. Potentially the 'build your own' cabin thing from the Game Jam. However that's pure subjective speculation.

The only thing that cannot yet be used is staves and magic. Also I would assume shouts are out but I haven't tried. Keep in mind this is a beta. Maybe they just haven't added the animations for magic yet. I doubt they would just leave it out forever entirely.

Me too. Some people will just never be pleased. But that's their problem, not ours.

I see that they're finally getting around to the Nirnroot, but the dropped weapons aren't mentioned.

It's nice that they're looking at ranged killcams, as a kill shot should actually kill the enemy, and not miss or do no damage.

I'm not complaining, but somehow I feel that modders could have done a better job with this than Beth did. Still, it's nice for it to be there, especially for console players, even if it could be done better.

Well, I have my fingers crossed for that!

Also, I am ecstatic about the Nirnroot Stacking fix, as well as the ranged killcams! :)

Actually this is a GREAT patch for console players. While us PC gamers had the nirnroot glow fixed months ago thanks to the unofficial patch, they had no luck regarding that, previously. I've seen a completely opaque white hemisphere around certain nirnroots while playing skyrim in my friend's PS3. Atomic nirnroot glow is an understatement :P And it 'punished' the console gamers who played skyrim for more than 100+ hours. Glad to see bethesda fixing it FINALLY.

What we need for horses is first person for combat and especially the bow. Also we need the option to cast spells from the horses.

Datamining the new 1.6 update.bsa, a LOT of new stuff was discovered regarding the Dawnguard DLC. Crossbows now have a separate sneaking animations + mounted combat with crossbows. There is a lot of vampire lord stuff. Here's the most interesting stuff:

Animations\DLC01\Paired_DLC1SeranaHoldsVyrthur.HKX
Animations\DLC01\Paired_VampFeedBack.hkx
Animations\DLC01\Paired_VampFeedFront.hkx
..\SharedKillMoves\Human&VampireLord\Paired_VampireLord_FeedBack.hkx
..\SharedKillMoves\Human&VampireLord\Paired_VampireLord_FeedFront.hkx
Animations\DLC01\MT_VampireFeast_VictimIdle.hkx
Animations\DLC01\MT_VampireLord_Transform.HKX
Animations\DLC01\Special_DLC01CoffinExit.HKX
Animations\DLC01\Special_DLC01CoffinIdle.HKX

Also, these two entries suggest that there will be an Elder Scroll in the main Dawnguard quest (or why else would the bother to duplicate the animations into a separate DLC01 folder, since the main game has it too):

Animations\DLC01\IdleReadElderScrollEnd.HKX
Animations\DLC01\IdleReadElderScrollEnter.HKX

So, reading between the lines, you could call the 1.6 patch a sneak preview of the Dawnguard DLC :woot:

-snip-

Awesome. I really hope those Vampire Lord animations aren't for the flying vamp lords from the Gamejam video, though... those were rather silly, imo.

Nah such aspects Shouldn't lie on the shoulders of modders imo, this way -EVERYONE- gets it, console users, people with crappy connections or aversions to mods in general this gets everyone, Its only a Boon to modders, one less thing to Code, and a staging point to improve and add on in my opinion

I mean come on...for the first time since Morrowind they are adding stuff.....FOR FREE...stuff people have been asking, I'm inclined to think my whining has paid off wasn't for nothing
