NV Weapons

I say no more real world guns then we have already, I was always a fan of the FO universe companies and there products. Bring back Beat Co. and Rockwell! :)

also Fox, Gauss rifle isn't a energy weapon in the original games.

Thank you for that wealth of information, Mr. Dunlevey. To be honest, I'm rather new to firearms and have mostly been picking up information as I go along. :)

If you want to PM me, I would be glad to share what I have.

I hoard information like packrat (Double major in history/political science)

You kidding right? :biglaugh:

I mean, there could be some real life stuff here and there(Fallout 2 anybody?) but this is just plain ridiculous.

Mr. Sawyer, i noticed you joined Bethesda forums on April 20th, 2009, the very same day New Vegas was innitially offically announced, Coincidence? i think not. Please specify why or if you were forced too.

I'm guessing he was curious like everyone else to see what people were saying about the announcement. It should be noted we didn't add the developer tags until the week of the trailer. So unless you knew who he or CAvellone were already (how could you not), you might not have noticed.

That is correct.

Will it be fallout 1-2 style "Certain weapons can be upgraded for a price"
Or a more modular system, like in the COD series?
I would love for the game to have scope-less Guass Rifles be common, with scopes being scavenged, or bartered for. Same with silencers, I would love a vanilla Silinced SMG.

Wow I thought I was a crusader for modern weapons... yeah that's just wayyy too much man. I love high tech guns too, but like I've said time and time again, we need a variety. The perfect group in my mind is a mix of WW2 era, Vietnam era, and modern day guns, with each type of weapon, SMG, Handgun, Shotgun etc. getting it's own 'type'. Throw in craftables like zipguns, energy weapons and some Fallout classics and that's all you need really.

Hmm, I always though the "sweet spot" for fallout tech was were you crossed Vietnam era stuff with Sci-Fi. With certain exceptions for "current but futuristic" concept weapons like P90 (Remeber, Fallout 2 was released in the late 90s) and the Jackhamer.

hey come on.. they had lincoln's repeater and that other one from point look out :P doesn't the hunting rifle count too?

:coolvaultboy:
lincolns repeater is over rated, sure its powerfull but i hate lever action rifles because its a slow reload between shots and its not semi automatic, its a cowboy weapon not a FO weapon, and the hunting rifle is awesome but its a bolt action not semi auto. they do need a semi automatic weapon, the only semi automatic weapons were plasma and laser weapons. :spotted owl:

Yeah, they should put in an M1 Carbine and a semi auto FAL to fill that role. It was kind of funny to me how all the energy weapons were semi and all the small guns were auto though, we should get some type of automatic laser rifle in New Vegas.

Is the aiming feature of the guns is going to be a simple zoom/cropping or a realistic, aiming down the sights feel?

The Fallout 3 aiming was, in my opinion, somewhat of a letdown. After all Fallout is a fairly gun-oriented series unlike Oblivion where the zoom(with the bow) was appropriate. My opinion on the matter is that the third-person should use the zoom system while the first-person should be able to aim down the sights.

P.S. The scope animation with snipers in Fallout 3 was instant and unrealistic along with the lack of recoil(in all guns). I would love to see aiming-down-the-sights animations instead of an insta-aim/zoom to really feel like I'm "in the game," so to speak. But all in all I am sure New Vegas is going to be great.

I agree, 3rd person should have that zoom function and 1st should aim with the ironsights. I'd also like to have control over the level of magnification on the scopes. Just last night a Yao Guai snuck up on me and all I had was me Perforator so I panicked and tried to zoom to get a better shot but it completely threw my aim off because it goes automatically to full zoom.

a gamma ray gun that just vaporizes enemies(on critical hit) an maybe more effective on vampires (like in fallout 3's blood ties quest.)

...Vampires? you know the "vampires" in Fallout 3 are regular human cannibals that just adopted the vampire lifestyle to "justify" there way.

I dont want to see nothing but real world guns in here, if I wanted that I would play other games. But how ever I would like to see a few "historial" style guns that can be found and used if you choose to.

  • Single Action Revolver
  • Double Action Revolver
  • Bolt Action shotgun (not a lever action shot gun, but a bolt action that has a traditional rifle bolt action and has a 7 shotgun shell clip in the bottom)
  • .223 caliber (.22 caliber) rifle. I think this would be a good replacement for the BB gun since the BB gun wasnt even useable on anything other than radroaches

But that is a list of "real" world guns I wouldnt mind seeing but I would be happy with what ever "alternative" time line weapons they put in game.

Ralos, only thing though is they wouldnt be called cannibals considering they dont consume the flesh, they are only drinking the blood.

frankly I take a pump action shotgun over a bolt action one, first because so far I know there have never been a bolt action shotgun, second because there are reasons why there never been one

Wrong I own a bolt action shotgun from 1965 and they are still made today they are designed for shooting slugs which are large bullets made for shotguns. You can only use those slugs in bolt action shotguns because 99% of the time they have a rifled barrel for them.

That is why I would like to see a bolt action shot gun in game to be able to use a slug it would be way more powerful than your pump shotgun. I am curious though what is the "reason" for you thinking a bolt action shotgun never been made? Just curious

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m153/keithfaux/whatkind.jpg <--- photo of a guys Bolt Action shotgun, doesnt appear to be clip fed like mine though.

But instead of being a gun nut and posting all this information I will just leave it at this and say I stand by my list of what I would like to see as far as real world guns used in game if there were any implimented.

But they wouldn't be that common, as evidenced by my own (and other's) lack of knowledge about its existence. I'd go for a pump action. Do you know how many of those are around , and are still being manufactured today?

Plus, if we want a powerful slug shot from a rifled barrel, I'm gonna go with whatever sniper rifle they put in...

I don?t see why a high caliber rifle couldn?t do that job, shotguns has always been about close range spray, unless multiple types of ammo are in we will only find buckshot shells and as you said the bolt one uses slugs.

No offense, but your lack of knowledge about guns is really apparent. Slugs shot from a 12 ga bolt action shotgun would do WAY more damage than a sniper rifle. Have you ever seen a 12 ga shotgun slug before?

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n420/joe1944usa/CastBullets_20090207_002.jpg <--- 12 Ga slug

Now can you imagine a 2 3/4" size Slug being shot from a 12ga shotgun at someone? You could easily put a slug from a shotgun through two people.

So in the end just because you have zero knowledge about its existence doesnt mean a sniper rifle or a pump action shotgun is better than a bolt action shotgun with a rifled barrel. Just because something isnt well known doesnt mean its weak or outdated.

No I said Bolt actions are the only shotguns that CAN use slugs because of the rifled barrel. You can still use regular shotgun shells in them. I have shot lead 00 buck out of mine as well as lead slugs before. They are a dual purpose shotgun, now you can shoot a slug out of a convential shotgun but cause they lack the rifling to give the slug spin for stability, you have decreased accuracy and shortened range.

BTW that slug I posted the link of above that is about 1 3/4" - 2" across in diameter. I think the only sniper rifle that would do as much damage as that slug would, would probably be a BMG .50 cal sniper rifle. Even then the bullet isnt bigger but its the amount of powder behind the bullet that gives the BMG .50 its punch.

well again that depends if multiple forms of ammo is in, if not there is only going to be buckshot anyway.

Well of course it would depend on the ammunition. But this here is a discussion on what weapons we would like to see. I would like to see a bolt action shotgun and slug ammunition. But then again it might tip the balance too much in your favor since it would do more damage to a super mutant.

Uhm.. yes you can.. I know because I have done, to devastating effect. It's just not as accurate that far down range. But they're used mostly in MOUT CQB were the range is only a few dozen meters anyway.

Ok maybe I should edit my post and say you can still use a slug in non rifled barrel shotguns but you wouldnt get the accuracy as you would with a rifled barrel.

lol I was going to use it as a home defense weapon considering it has a clip that holds 7 slugs. Then I thought oh hell the slug would probably go through the person and through the wall. Or it would go through the person and hit the car they were trying to break in. So now I just have a old 1970`s 12ga pump with winchester military load 00 buck. That is good enough for me, better than my confederate navy .44 caliber revolver. Doubt they would stand still as I measure the powder load out, filled the cylinders then press the .44 caliber lead bullet in place.

Personally I never used a slug in any shotgun other than my rifled boltaction shotgun. Same as I only use lead shot/slug in mine, mainly due to the fact they were built when lead shot was very popular still.
