Werewolves & Game Jam general discussion.

Thanks!

I don't know about werebears and werewolves and their differences. Werebears are said to be weak to the Canis Root or whatever, but it hasn't been proven since we don't have any damn werebears in the game haha. Werewolves are often the most dominant or at least the more likely Lycanthrope to encounrer, since they are all over the place.

I agree that they should definetly add some strength, speed and powers for werewolves and werebears in the game. I hate walking around seeing Aela the huntess carry a torch. Why does she need a torch when she can tell if a werewolf is part of her pack or not just by the smell? In Daggerfall, the character had heightened abilities. In Skyrim, all they got is resist disease. All least give us an ability called "Eye of the Wolf" which can detect prey and see in the dark.

As for bears being slow, I doubt it. Sure, they might have a super powerful swipe that can disembowel a man in moments, but even mundane bears are fast. That's why they say you can never outrun a bear, because they are very http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECheuuS5F80.

It is scary how much he knows, but I liked it because know I know.
I would assume that werebears would be tougher than werewolves so their defense would be higher, but they would be slower because of that.

They can be pretty fast when they want to be in truth, same as Rhinos and Hippos they're all suprisingly quick on their feet. But with their mass I'd expect more defense and possibly a slower attack speed and less damage.

Thanks!

I think A werewolf sprint may be slower but takes less endurance, while if a werebear is faster takes MORE endurance. Werebears can take more of a hit, Werewolves deal more of a hit. And general things maybe. :3 As I said maybe make Werebears attack slower due to their size and weight perhaps. Maybe.

But yeah, i think they should be given those "passive" abilities. Like Nightvision :3

I find it is one of the more annoying things that in human form you do not have any perks from being a werewolf. I hope Bethesda fixes this in the future by giving us enhanced senses, and strength in human form. I think for gameplay purposes a werebear should be stronger, but slower than werewolves because otherwise they are just the same creature with a different appearance.

I am not 100% sure but I recall reading lore somewhere that stated that all "souls" or people are reincarnated at some point. So eventually all this talk of invading The Hunting Grounds and "rescuing" Werebeast from Hircine, or the "afterlife" in general becomes redundant.
All those that don't bind themselves to a Daedra's sphere are reincarnated, so the conversation is not redundant.

I also question Canis Root. It's possible that it could just be a myth as Werebears and Werebeast in general are considered a myth by many. Werewolves are more widespread throughout Tamriel than their siblings but in Skyrim, Werebears are (should be) the most dominante (numerous) form of Therianthropy.

I imagine that Werebears would be slower, yet stronger than Werewolves, but still incredibly fast by humanoid standards.

Yeah, I figured as much. The general population don't know fact from fiction in their universe. Most believe garlic can ward off vampires when in fact, it doesn't. Unless you are Vicente Valtieri. So I wonder what else they messed up on.

That was one thing I thought was cool about Vicente, he was allergic to garlic, it was kind of like a joke on the belief that vampires die from garlic. I think Canis Root may have an effect on werewbears like disorientate or something, but I do not think it wards them off.

Well, the belief is common enough. I am willing to bet Nords believe vampires cast no reflection and etc. Like Kasistos mentioned, the Canis Root may not even ward off werebears, even if the Nords believe it does. Same for vampires and garlic.

"It is strange, this reaction I have to garlic. In all my wanderings, in all my research, I have never encountered another vampire thusly affected. It is true that some popular lore holds that all vampires have an inherent weakness to garlic, but this is simply not the case. My situation, as far as I can tell, is unique."-Vicente Valtieri.

I remember his note that you find in his desk because I remember pickpocketing garlic onto him for the purification quest.

I think Canis Root does have some sort of effect, but warding them off seems unlikely to me.

This would be enough for me:

Night Eye ability like the Khajiit and Vampires have that can be used multiple times.
Sprinting costs 10% less stamina
Unarmed damage is increased by 5
Stamina and Health regen 2.5% faster

Werewolves in Morrowind Had night eye.

And the ability exists for them in Skyrim. The activation of it got cut but the uesp shows the coding is still in there.

Here you go.

As for why they removed it, maybe they wanted to give vampirism a leg up on lycanthropy.

Night eye has ALWAYS for Vampires been in TES. Or atleast oblivion >.< Vampires still get to use thier powers and weapons, shouts And Buffs. They DON'T NEED to give vamprisim a "leg" up.

Well maybe Bethesda will add awesome things into the perk tree. :-) Then they'll have restored some of our faith in them. 8D remain optimistic

Did the developers truly and intentionally leave out night eye and lunar transformations?? If this is true, I find it very disconcerting. I have always given them the benifit of the doubt and advocated the possibility that they ran out of time to flesh ot Vamps and Weres though the content developed in a week and featured in the Jam Video was suspect. There is no excuse, now atleast, to add these innovations in future updates and DLC.
One pluasable excuse that I worry about is the catering to newbie gamers with IMO, false concerns that they will not be able to "handle" lunar transformations and sun damage.....B&%L S#!T. I survived the Water Temple as a child, they can deal with RPG mechanics.

It's especially weird to remove these mechanics considering they're built into the lore of these creatures in our mythology as well. We expect vampires to not be able to handle sunlight, or werewolves to transform under the full moon. I was really surprised when I didn't see that happen.

There's a reason people get on Stephanie Meyer's case for not doing research and just making up things as she went along.

I'm all for establishing new mythology as long as it makes sense. And one you've established that mythology, you have to stay within the rules of that mythology. You can't just go, "Welp. It's different now."

At least Bethesda had the decency to tell us why the Skyrim werewolves that we can play are like the way they are, they still do not tell us how the Volkihar are like the Cyrodillic vampires though.

And those are not werewolves in Twilight they are shapeshifters, just saying, so she didn't make her own mythology for werewolves in those books.

No, but that was her excuse for not doing any research on either creature.

But werewolves are mentioned in the book, and they do exist, and Jacob and the others are shapeshifters. The vampires have no excuse, even though it was a really original idea I have to admit, they are not vampires they are gods because the only way for them to die is by being torn apart and burned, which can pretty much only be done by another vampire.
