What's the point anymore?

Hey citizens of Sierra Leone! This guys says all you havta do is stop 'fixating' on your problems. Guess we don't need to worry about sending you aid anymore, yeah?

Actually, people in war ridden 3rd world countries whine about their lives 90% less than middle class american teens.

There is a difference between trying to fix your situation (applicable to homeless, Sierra Leone, etc.) and sitting there and thinking that life is pointless. the former can yield results, the later does nothing except giving us horrible poetry.

Poor OP will come back to reply to 10 posts and find a closed thread, another party missed. In the kitchen again. I found the kitchen a great place to chat people up incidentally, cos if they follow you there it's an encouragement, you can open the fridge for extra lighting and it's quieter.

Oh, but when someone opens the fridge, I look inside and ask for a snack... Especially chocolate, I always keep my chocolate in the fridge.

Putting candy in the freezer yields better results, especially stuff like Snickers, Twix, think mints, and chocolate chip cookies.

Uh huh. *takes notes*

It's true. I actually like underground hip-hop, baseball, Age of Empires 3 and Vampire games but I pretend to like the others because of Undone.

Spoiler
There's nothing wrong with AOE3. Its just a bit dumbed down, that's all. <_<

And what could be more rich, mysterious and inviting than chocolate, you see?

I don't seem to be able to fit in any where. I'm nice to most people but that just doesn't seem to matter because they always run away or turn on me eventually. I've been coming here for years, on two different accounts, and I've never made one friend here. I added someone awhile back(Amazon Queen) but she removed me. I guess I didn't talk enough....

I suffer from agoraphobia, social anxiety, and depression, so it's difficult going out in the real world to make friends. It's getting difficult to make friends online too...everyone seems so stuck up, shallow, and snobby. I'm losing hope in going on...little by little...day by day. I think I'll just lock myself away for the rest of my life untill my heavy smoking and drinking (hopefully) kills me.

It probably is not a good idea to air your greivances about what other folks on the forum have done.
If someone unfriended me, I'd either move on, or ask them why, via private message.

i dont have many friends either, mostly cause im a self avowed [censored]. i wouldnt bother with online friends, im willing to bet that almost all of the "female" members here are really overweight, balding, sweaty old dudes sitting in their basemant in their underoos.

to be honest im alot happier now with my very small number of long time close friends compared to my early 20s when i would hang out with any number of people as long as booze was around. i grew out of my party stage and i dont intend to ever go back.

i am currently on unemployment and im starting college this fall and probably wont finish till im almost 40.

i only have one nvidia 285 card. (id like to see someone even attempt to come up with a sob story that beats this)

i drive a lexus........from 1996

and yet i love my life cause everytime i visit childrends hospital or a nursing home i think "better them than me" and i feel better. :)

... And there's plenty of knives, forks, and other utensils that you could jab, stab, or bludgeon someone with, right?

You're right about the population of war-torn countries. Although that jack-boot to the teeth likely has more to do with it than anything else.
Considering how many people (including myself, although you can all feel free to continue making presumptions if you'd like) have spent time as volunteers and peace-keepers in 3rd world countries over the past century, and how few of the situations have been resolved, I'd still argue, life is pointless.

Balding no. Overweight? Don't we all think so? Sweaty, it's 32C and more humid than a World Cup jockstrap right now. I'm at my desk in the staffroom, it's Chinese exam day so I have nothing to do, I have a job interview this afternoon so I am planning what to do if I have to teach something.
And I'll be a dude if you want.

And indeed I am wearing my underwear, and a black trouser suit too.
Oh and I'm 43.

Then pray tell, why did you bother to volunteer if it was pointless?

If we could direct any and all iron-clad grips on pessimism towards the pastries thread it would be much appreciated.

Chocolate cake? Especially if it's delicious and moist.

I just don't see the point in being upset that our world is not perfect. If you are trying to make it better, great for you. But at some point you have to accept our current situation as a sort of status quo, and learn to live with it. Yes, there is going to be war and suffering and all kinds of other crap - there always has and always will be. But you can't just ignore all the things we *do* have. Our life expectancy and quality of living are rising ever year. Hundreds of diseases have been wiped out by vaccination, medicine, and proper screening. Thousands more have become treatable and survivable. We can communicate instantly across the web, see art and hear music made across the globe, experience things we would never have known about before. The very fact that you have time to care about other people shows how great our life is - even 100 years ago you would have been struggling to put food on your family's table.

To your competition, no. Like Nietzsche the only thing you get to do with all of that is depress people.

And frankly, if you want to keep this up take it to pm.

I can list negative things.
Social and moral decay
Genocide
Cancer and AIDS
Justin Bieber...

If i can come up with more examples of heinous atrocities than you can of glowing fuzziness, do I win?

With the exception of Justin Bieber, all those things have been around since the beginning of human society. AIDS may not have come up until the 80s, but plenty of similarly horrible diseases existed before. The fact that people with AIDS can now live relatively normal lives is another testament to our progress.

"The nature of good is stronger than the habit of evil. ... for good exits, while evil does not exist, or rather it exists only at the moment in which it is practiced." - Diadochus Of Photice, c.450

But there are plenty of places where such things have happened in the past and now people just get on with living? I've taught in Bangladeshi schools that ten years before were starving and have suffered civil war within many people's memories. Maybe another cyclone will come or worse but they play innocently in the playground right now. With beautiful smiles that remind everyone how life can be.
@ Mr Johnson NO dude I'm the English teacher, so I have nothing to do today. I am looking to change job, so I am off to an interview this afternoon, where as a teacher they often ask you to show what you can do in a mock classroom setup.

oh sorry......misunderstoodified your statement. sounds like an interesting career choice why would you want to change.....unless your not getting paid much.
