The people that dislike them generally argue they are overused. I'de rather use the term iconic.

Nope, they are overused.

Fallout- You can't beat the game easily without running into the BoS
Fallout 2- Avoidable, but they still play a role in the series
Fallout:Tactics- You play as an initiate, the whole bloody game is about the BoS
The Burned Game- BoS play a key role in it.
Fallout 3- Railroads you into helping them
Fallout:New Vegas- No faction can avoid them despite Obsidian saying you wouldn't have to run into them in the game.

They ARE overused. For once it would be nice to find a way to use Power Armor WITHOUT the freaking Brotherhood. In Fallout and Fallout 2 it had repair manuals and instruction books, so we could just find and read one of those. Iconic implies it's a key part of the series. It isn't, it's the cash cow of the series. I'd rather the BoS just die off like the idiots they are.

Edit: GABRIEL HOW COULD YOU FORGET LIEUTENANT IN YOUR LIST?!?!

yep you can use PA in NV without BoS help, the old Enclave provides you the training if you can't stand the BoS

You can, but it isn't exactly a bonified way of getting it. If you have Legion accepted or above, if Arcade dies while in the wastes, etc. The BoS are pretty much the only solid way of getting it.

Edit: on top of that, you don't get access to PA training by doing Arcades quest until about 2/3rds through the main questline.

Don't let the dinosaurs scare you. I played FO2, but not FO1 yet. FO3 is better than 2 and NV, imo. Why you think I have the requiem for the capital wasteland mod? I get bored to tears in the mojave after awhile.

i thought so. when i played through the 5 time i just did Veronicas quest and avoided the collar bomb. their base is really anyoing/suffocating to be in though. makes me dread their questline everytime.

true they allso give you a very simple task to acess your character, if you resolve the issue peacefully the elder will react positivelly in a way that implies that theyr goal is not for you to kill the ranger but simply make sure theyr location is secure and will not be found by him, after all the NCR did invade Helios it was not provoked by the BoS so in my book i would whant them dead to

Yep. And if you kill him McNamara isnt pleased and if you cant pass the speech check the BoS will attack you.

on this, my 7th playthrough i'm trying to get through as much as possible without touching the main quest... level 22, still haven't been to the strip. i get what your saying though they make it pretty much impossible NOT to interact with BOS.

The experience i had playing FO3 was legendary. i had never played a fallout game before, nor knew anything about it. bought it on 360 cause i had extra money, and when i stepped out of that vault, i was blown away. since then i haven't been able to focus on another game. i started portal 2, duke nukem... then stopped after 30 minutes and poped in NV. there's nothing else like it to me. i try to talk to my friends about it, get them into it but alll they play is cod and halo. i just don't get it man. i just don't

I know what you mean, I started in FO3 as well. Fell in love since day one. Was awesome, I remember my first random encounter was at the abandoned( I use the term loosely) Super market. Got me the Alien Blaster XD BOS is awesome I would much rather have them vs NCR than another new faction. That or BOS and NCR vs Slavers XD

The only BOS i hate is the ones in NV they are cowards who are afraid to fight and they can't do anything even though you help them out.
just wondering are they suppose to have patrols outside there base once you do all there quest or is it a bug?

the alien blaster was the most bad-ass weapon ever. 1 shot headshot kills on deathclaws..and i know that it's running in NV with the Wild Wastelander perk, but it doesn't feel as strong. does anyone know if they altered the dps/dam for NV?

They're the complete opposite of cowards, willing to fight and die for what they believe in; God forbid that they are a little [censored] cautious after almost being killed.

On multiple occasions.

I know they're descended from military, and such, but I still think they're just thrown together tyrants that want to be as badass as the Enclave, but they can't. I mean, the Brotherhood at the Citadel didn't even have power armor until they actually reached the Citadel.

Actually the Lyons BOS had T-51b armor, but after their long trek it was falling into disrepair. They had to settle for the older, more numerous and easier to repair T-45d's because their armor was broken and also they needed it to outfit new recruits they took on. They also have a mixture of pure humans and wastelanders.

Adding to the Enclave's point, most of them actually wanted to start going on patrol again but the Elder wouldnt allow it for understandable reasons. And Head Paladin Hardin wanted to try to take back Helios One from the NCR and McNamara was "trying to dissuade him" from doing so. Trying to? He's the Elder. Why didnt he just veto that move?

The whole point about the BOS seems to be caution. When they find new technology they find it's limits and are careful with it, they rarely reveal themselves to the public and they hide away in bunkers most of the time doing research and training. But god help you if you attack them, they're docile around those without high tech gadgets to hassle them for, but if you try to attack them you will wind up as a pile of ash on the floor. Of course this caution is taken because they are few in number and can be swarmed by NCR and Legion.

Apparently the Lyons BOS was supposed to have patrols as well but you only see Paladin Hoss' (Falls Church) and Lyons Pride (Chevy Chase). Aside from some stationed near the White House, GNR, Taft tunnel, and the Washington Monument. You only really ever see the Outcasts patroling.
