Which faction do you lean towards most?

Well, the NCR is an egalitarian organization that doesn't torture people, so they've got that going for them.

Yes they torture people. There's even a mission about it. They just do it off the books.

Having played Fallout 2 repeatedly I often consider my character to be a descendant of the tribal from Arroyo. She can almost hear her ancestor cry when she see's what the NCR has become. She finds herself believing in what the Followers are doing.

i used to want to join the legion until i met up with Caesar at the Fort. Then i changed my mind.

i do really like the BoS, but they need to get smarter, and ya know, actually use all that tech they have been gathering to rebuild humanitylike they said they were supposed to do.

and i have always wanted to join the enclave, i have not met any in F:NV but i heard about the Remnants who i think are Ex-Enclave, i worked for the enclave in FO3

Yes. Survival of the species is paramount. You are able to ask that question now because hundreds of years ago the Romans united humanity by the sword, THEN during the ensuing peace supported democracy and the arts. And they only pulled it off because first the Greeks kicked ass, THEN supported democracy and the arts.

Humanity is, by definition, the mental filter and moral compass of the majority of humanity.

In order for a society to organize the kind of professional military required to kick anyone’s ace, it has to first form an organized society. Army’s don’t build societies, societies build army's. The Empire wasn’t sustained by soldiers and swords; it was sustained by roads and commerce.

Oh, okay then, I'm sure if you were on the receiving end of such treatment you would not be so supportive of that view. You make it seem like it's impossible to increase population growth and form a stable society without brutality, when it's not.

I would hate to be around you if I were ever to find myself in some post-apocalyptic scenario. :whistling:

Don’t worry. People seem to think that if there were no post office; folks would just start killing each other and forget that we existed for tens of thousands of years without an organized government beyond a tribal one.

If the s hits the fan, our instincts will still know what to do.

In the long term, Mr. House has grown on me and I see him as the best faction to support. However, in-game the NCR seems to back me up more as a player, evidence being the Emergency Radio they gave me.

Mr. House, he is the best course of action for humanity, and he is the most honest leader about what you'll do for him. Most everyone else say 'do it cause I say so.' And I want to see the electrical neon signed beauty spread to all of Vegas.

Well I did side with the legion after I beat the legion ending as I found them really cool to side with and I loved them. Then on another playthrough I sided with the NCR and at the NCR ending the NCR soldiers and NCR Veteran Rangers completely obliterated all the Legionaries and I couldn't even get a kill where as in the Legion ending the Legionaries fought a battle but usually lost. I was loss for words and now I am more NCR. They would take down the legion again in a war anyday!

Well if you are talking 'play in a game' wise I lean heavy toward NCR. Most of what they did fit in with the way I feel. I decided to let my moral compas pick the way I swung my first play through, and I swung heavy NCR. When I finally met House I kinda swayed to him, but then he goes all
Spoiler
mustache twirling mad scientist on me when I gave him his chip... freaked me back into NCR hands quickly.

I feel for the FoA, but they are just way to goodie goodie for me. I would help them all I could, but I would never out right join them.

Now if we are talking as in how would we lean if we where really thrust into this position?
Then I would try like hell to get into the strip, and once in I would join up with any of the big Families. While I would like to see myself joining up with the White Glove Society odds are I would join up withe the Omertas >.> .

While the strip scene is just as dangerous as the wilderness scene... I think my personal survival chances would be greater in the Strip... failing that at least Freeside.

My biggest problem with House is
Spoiler
the inflexible manner in which he has you deal with a certain faction in the game (won't spoil it but anyone who's played through the questline knows what I'm talking about) - he won't even consider diplomacy on that one. Seemed pretty unreasonable to me. Hell, even the NCR were more open to diplomacy on that particular point, and they had a lot more bad blood to deal with.

I wish there was a bigger part to the Gun Runners. I love their personality; "Get Money, [censored] [censored]es" - Isaac

Edit: Did not know about sensors. Let me put it in another way. Obtain Currency, Disrespect Women.

Well that is actually explained, he states that he knows how they would respond, and would rather sidestep that fight altogether. It isn't that he does not want to treaty peace, it's that he knows they arent likely to play fair.

Yes, he might think that's the case, but that makes no sense because

Spoiler
they're willing to make peace with the NCR, who they've actually a bloody war with - and not just make peace, but actually send troops help them hold the Dam. From their perspective, House would probably be less of an enemy from the outset than the NCR, so I don't see why they wouldn't come to some sort of arrangement with him too. Now of course I don't expect House to know what goes on in these alternate histories, but the fact that he doesn't even try annoys me a little.

This is my opinion of all the factions.
NCR: seem pretty Morales ambiguous if you ask me.
CR: i dont believe in crucification.
House: hes a dead body
Boomers: nice but i dont like their arty
BOS : seem like D-Bags in this one. all they care about is technology.
FA: they seem nice but they are weak.
The Families. all D-Bags
Nightkin: i like lily and the few in Jacobstown but most are trying to kill you.
Jacobstown: i like them.
Kings. Nice but annoying.
Edit: Gun runners and Van graffs are okay. i try to keep it strictly buisness.
Edit# 2: I hate all types of raiders unless im tryhign to be like them
i also hate the powder gangers.

Strange I have to agree with you. :) Of all the groups they seem the most normal. Just ever day folks trying to get by, if you can call mutants normal. Other wise the only other group I would sort of be drawn to is the Followers of the Apocalypse but they are little to unrealistic in there view and to naive. NCR is a nut case, though helpful. Boomers are probably to inbreed. The Kings way to weird. Best to just go to Goodsprings, they do not want anything out of you and just live out your life there.

While my karma always leans towards good I tend to play both sides of the fence for as long as possible. The challenge is trying not to slip and impale myself. B)

Same here. I now have a save game that completes all the side quests from all factions without the opposite faction been angry at me. (reverse c4s and cattle prods helps alot) Now I can easily see each faction's ending within 2 hour's play.

Boomers. not even close. they LOVE explosives and the guards carry around missile launchers while everyone else uses teeny weeny little guns, well maybe except the BoS with the gauss rifles. i also love it when they say "once a republican, always a republican" :)

oh and no one else has mini-boomers.

Well, look at the NCR, they are advancing by Post-War standards, but by their standards, they don't have anything worth going to war over. Helios is the only thing worth it, but the they are to weak right now to suceed. But Mr. House knows they would likely attempt a frontal assault for his technology.

I find it amusing how many people are playing down the similarities between the legion and historical Romans. While the real Romans had a far more complex society, they really were in many ways like the Legion. We tend to give them way too much credit when it comes to their culture; the fact is that their culture was based around war. Their empire lived off the spoils of their constant conquest. They did enslave people on massive scale, and worked men to death in the mines. Their roads really would have been decorated with crusified criminals.

If you want to look for culture, advances in philosophy, mathematics and the arts, then you'll have to look to the ancient Greeks. For Romans, these subjects were only useful as a means to an end; they never seem to have developed the sort of curiousity that the Greeks had for them. Greek scientists were inventors, Romans were more pragmatic, and even after they had conquered Greece gladly left these subjects to the Greeks. Obviously Roman authors also produced some great works, but they were always in the service of glorifying the power of Rome. To the Romans, the Greeks were seen as effaminate men, because they busied themselves so with subjects that seemed to have no practical use to them.

As for the bringers of civilization... I can only recommend watching Terry Jones' Barbarians. It's not as simple as the Romans coming and bringing civilization to unwashed savages. They often simply dismantled other complex cultures, and kept quiet about them in their histories. And compared to Roman practises, the "barbarians" were often the "civilized" party.

Brotherhood, whether it's the West coast or the East coast, I think they remind me too much of Space Marines for me not to like them.

I like the chem junkies....

Okay, so they're pretty one dimensional, but at least they don't try to rip me off, use me, or kill me.

Edit:

And Jadedwolf is so spot on. People quite often wave the banner of the Romans. If they tried that stuff today, we would have them up before an international court standing next to the Khmer Rouge (and others).

Imperial Rome was simply a huge (but complex) leech, feeding itself through conquest. Aside from the army, it also sustained a massive organisation simply to feed animals into the arenas for public entertainment.

I'm certain that the reason Attila died was a punishment for not burning Rome to the ground.

(Not that I have much of an axe to grind, the Romans built a big wall to keep my ancestors away).

I like the Followers. What they lack in manpower and guns they make up for in education.

Hell, Caesar used to be a Follower. Then he became the most dangerous man in America.

Legion.

I always feel bad when I have to cross them, whereas I also feel bad when I notice that I gained NCR fame even though my intention was not to. :P
