Who likes Ulfric Stormcloak?

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 1:40 pm

Ive read so many peoples remarks on how they dislike Ulfric...does anyone out there besides me actually like him? I feel so alone...for some reason I really enjoy killing Imperial soldiers especially when they have a stormcloak soldier in custody.

I like him as a character. He tends to get a lot of undue hate due to people accepting the empire's word as fact without ever checking up on it.

One of the few interesting characters Beth has made in the past 10 years.

I didn't mind him until the talks at High Hrothgar. He came across as a bit too whiny.

I like his character, his passion and grit. Though, I disagree with some of his beliefs and dislike his discrimination of the Dunmer and Argonians .

It's decided by whoever your opposing force is. If Whiterun is imperial, Ulfric is the whiner, if it's stormcloak, Tullius is.

I like him just fine. More than most other NPCs, even if he is far from the nicest guy around.

You are not alone. :)

While there is a lot of hate (some it just plain irrational), there are plenty of Ulfric fans as well. If you're on tumblr, there are a few of us who post Ulfric fan stuff. PM me if you'd like the url's.

I agree..he has so much passion, which makes him so appealing. I do feel bad for the Dunmer though, the ones I have conversed with were all friendly for the most part (even with me being a Nord).

*raises hand*

Ulfric is one of few characters who actually feels real. Me like! Why? This is what I wrote in another thread:

From a writer's point of view, I really like how they did Ulfric. He has good sides and bad sides. He has a background, past traumas, he's made some pretty terrible things in his youth (Markarth incident), he has goals and dreams - in short, he's a complex character. It's possible to view him as a hero, and it's possible to view him as, well, a scumbag. He definitely stirs some feelings, considering all the threads about him! So good job there, Bethesda!

From a rp point of view, I like how his charismatic yet dubious character makes it possible for my characters to have very different opinions about him.

And on a totally different level, I like him just because he's one of the sixiest NPCs in the game  (I suspect most of my female characters will end up doing the Stormcloak questline just to get a little, ehrm, closer acquainted to him...)

And besides, my favorite characters tend to be the ones who aren't all good. (Tyrion Lannister FTW!)

I think he is an excellent character. Like Cecliff and Aurora said, he is one of the more interesting characters Bethesda has made in a while. He has a complicated background, with him having been in training to be a Greybeard, only to give that all up to fight the Thalmor in the Great War. Then being captured and tortured, retaking the reach, and imprisoned again, only by the Empire he fought for this time etc... He has powerful motivations, both personal and idealistic. Nor is he a lily white knight, but rather a man filled with shades of grey, just like real people. Plus of course he has Vladimir Kulich's voice FTW! So yes, I like Ulfric very much.

Tullius OTOH feels very flat and one-dimensional in comparison.

And yes, I too really enjoy killing those Imperial soldiers who are dragging off a Stormcloak prisoner. There is something about having been in that situation yourself that makes all of my characters very sympathetic. Not to mention gives them zeal to strike back.

That is exactly my motivation for killing them. I hate the imperials for, of course, having almost executed me.

I find him to be interesting and has likeable qualities, but not enough to side with the stormcloaks.

I think he is an interesting grey character, but on a more personal level i can't stand his guts. Hes just so damned arrogant and between him and his pedobear 2nd in command, they have put me off every time I want to try out the Stormcloak missions. they just freaking enrage me with their whole victimisation, false views on history, scapegoating, and dishonesty routines.

Ulfric is a well written character, but also one i am fervently against.

This is funny. People complain about him being arrogant and so on. But actually, I think he's quite nice to the PC (at least he's not more arrogant than any other jarl). He even tells a character who won't join him to be careful out there (or what his exact words are). Not so arrogant, IMO.

(Then when it comes to other things he might be arrogant, I agree on that. It's not like he's putting any efforts in maintaining his city, catching murderers, and so on...)

I enjoyed giving him Markarth and giving the Imperials Winterhold. Tullius was so "disappointed" in me. Hilarious

Good point...Ulfric really is nicer than some of the other jarls. I dont know, I kind of like that he can be arrogant. I like his confidence.

I have only sided with the stormcloaks in both my playthroughs and its because of the cause more then Ulfric himself. Actually I am hoping that the second dlc will expand the civil war quest line and I can send him to soverngard along with the Thalmor. To him the cause seems to be an excuse to gain the throne.

Haha, I made a character that is his son, so yeah.

Although he is probably a better guy than his old man :)

When has Ulfric ever twisted history in order to justify himself? try me.
