It's not about can I afford a decent desktop. I choose not to buy one. I'm a X box fan and have been since day one. I've played my fair share of games on both the computer and console. I choose the console. As far as modding, who cares. Why use cheats and modding. You take away from the game by using mods. You change the rules of the game to your benefit and quite frankly it's sad. Just look at all the crap going on with Modern Warfare and Black Ops. Mods, Mods and more Mods. The online play of those games is unfair because people like you choose to change the game to your favor so you can be number 1 in deaths, or number 1 in whatever. Give me a break. You can take your Mod and go fly a kite. Mod's are for people who just have to be number 1 in the gaming community. Sad, very sad indeed.
Skyrim is a single player game so modding it doesn't affect anyone's gameplay but the users. Totally different the what you're talking about here with multiplayer games where I could see it being annoying.
They hardly take away from a game...if it's just your game. Mods just allow more options for people to tweak it to what they personally like and add more content based on things people personally like to do. And yes it's most definitely for my own benefit. That's the point. lol It's my game and no one elses. If you want you could pick mods to make it 'easy mode' make yourself a God. Or you could go the opposite route and make it or certain things even harder. The 'benefit' isn't cheating it's just the ability to play the game exactly how you want too. It's part of what I personally find fun.
So for instance the mods I've chosen so far hardly make it easier. I've slowed down leveling to a crawl about 1/2 of what vanilla is. Taken away crafting skills adding levels. Tweaked the mob scaling to a higher level. Made dragons harder. Made rare and good items appear less in shops and made shop owners have less money overall. Also have changed the UI to sort better and got rid of the compass. Just installed a map mod (haven't tried it yet) which is supposed to make the only map I have access to one I physically hold in my hand and look at with my character which to me makes navigating the world seem more realistic.
I've also used some texture mods both for characters and the world. One of my favorites is one that adjusts light so the nights are darker and dungeons are darker. Means if I want to see in the dark I need to use a light and even then I only see well a short distance around me. Makes running around at night way more interesting to me.
If you don't like mods and think they take away from your personal game fair enough. That's hardly the case for everyone though. Mods for me make MY game way richer and more fun because with them I can have a hand in creating a more perfect game for me and my tastes. They don't effect anyone elses game in the slightest nor make me No. 1 in any gaming community but my own.
