That I was going to get my tail handed to in a huge way for the first week or two of game play. Definately would have stuck around Riverwood and Whiterun doing more adventuring a bit before just jumping head first into main quest.

If I could have told myself one thing I would have said

"Don't fast travel, take it slow, don't jump into any big questlines yet"

A really great topic. I wanted to explore badly and so I didn't head straight for Riverwood. That was a mistake. I should have followed Hadvar even though he said we should split up. I missed the dialogue with him and Alvor and Alvor never really came out to his forge area for a long time because I arrived at night. If you intend to do the Main Quest, I think it's important to go to Riverwood for that event because they talk about what's going on in Skyrim.

Edit: I have no problems on my PS3 version or with magic. You just have to build your character and it takes time. Go slow.

Set up third-person immediately when I'm running around exploring. I really hate having things pop out at me because it's not in my immediate field of vision.

That when whoever you side with at the tutorial says "we should split up", you really shouldn't.

If you`re a strict 1st-Person Player don`t waste your precious 1000 gold you spent ages to collect on buying a horse.

You won`t get your money back.

I wish we had a choice of gaining more spellcraft if we choose to not to use dragon shouts.
It's my humble opinion that they " stole from Peter to give to Paul" in regards to having dragon shouts.

  • That you can place spells, bows, and swords in your favorite menu.
  • That you can change weapons in mid-combat. For some crazy reason I thought you could not change just like it was in Oblivion.
  • That you can have a main quest marker and miscellaneous quest marker active at the same time, and you can turn one of them off.
  • That you have to unlock shouts.
  • Killing a chicken in Riverwood at level one would get you killed. I now know to leave chickens alone.
  • Giants are in no way friendly.
  • You can move while over encumbered.
  • You can fast travel while over encumbered if you are on a horse.

Develop some skill with a ranged weapon for dragon fighting. Standing there with a big sword doesn't accomplish much.

Also, don't buy a dog for companionship since he goes right back to his old owner instead of your house when you dismiss him.
