AMD Catalyst 11.10 Preview Driver (RAGEBF3 Unified Driver)

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 12:11 pm

The update helped a lot. I have no more crashes while loading and the game runs extremely smooth. I do have NPC flickering now when I didn't before, not a huge deal since the game is completely playable now.

Specs:
Intel Quad Q6600 @ 3.6GHz
8GB RAM
Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 @ 1.3GB VRAM

Launch Options:
+vt_pageImageSizeUnique 8192 +vt_pageImageSizeUniqueDiffuseOnly 8192 +vt_pageImageSizeUniqueDiffuseOnly2 8192 +vt_maxAniso 4

I tried it just cause I was bored. Didn't work for me but best of luck to you mate!

Nope didn't work, I still get the 100% usage problem and the other weird one (stated in the Something weird thread)

Yeah so far the ONLY thing I have had is the stuttering 100% CPU usage problem. All I can do to remedy it on my system is do what I posted previously or roll back to 11.6, either option dips my framerate into the 18-25 range and after messing around with Catalyst AI ticked off and seeing it at 60 frames (even with the artifacting) it is kinda like "Heck no I won't ruin the game playing it this way!".

Hey guys, i've tried everything suggested, even went so far as to learn what I was doing, even though I said I wasnt going to bother, no further yet. Went through all the drivers, changed all the setting in catalyst as suggested, turned cat off, reinstalled 3 times, did the config thing that was shown, I'm still in squares. Also I've found that I'm having key binding issues as well.

Too bad it doesn't really fix anything. Took all the launch options off and booted up the game and texture pop-in still exists. iD needs to fix this, not AMD.

We already know that the texture pop-in is due to AUTO-CONFIGURER and some other settings we didn't yet found with console ... just stop panicking

Also note: LAUNCH OPTIONS aren't really anything different than config commands, it's just required for some certain commands to be entered into command line because the game needs to be pre-initailized with them and cannot load them AFTER main systems launched(that's miliseconds). AFAIK that's how it worked in Call of Duties , for example you needed to put dedicated 1 into the command line because in configs it'll be too late and the game will not apply change in realtime.

These drivers are just as bad as the 11.9. The only thing that is slightly playable is the 11.8 driver. Using the 11.9. or 11.10 drivers and it is a second of movement followed by about 3 seconds of freeze.
All CCC settings are default.

I have a AMD Phenom II x4 965 @ 3.6Ghz 8gig Ram and 2x HD6850`s and am use`n the Catalyst 11.10 v2 drivers and can play at 60fps and has very minor graphical problems :D.
My CCC settings are:

Anisotropic Filtering: Use application settings
Tesselation: AMD Optimized
Catalyst A.I.: High Quality + Enable Surface Format Optimizations
Anti-Aliasing Mode: Multi-sample AA
OpenGL Settings: Triple buffering
(my crossfire is still on)

And my rageconfig.cfg is:

vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly2 8192
vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly 8192
vt_pageimagesizeunique 8192
vt_pageimagesizevmtr 8192
vt_restart
vt_maxaniso 4
image_anisotropy 4
vt_maxPPF

And i use these launch commands:

+r_swapInterval 1
+vt_pageImageSizeUnique 8192
+vt_pageImageSizeUniqueDiffuseOnly 8192
+vt_pageImageSizeUniqueDiffuseOnly2 8192
+vt_maxPPF 16

I tried going to 11.9 driver, AI turned off and the cfg file mentioned by pr1est and my frame rate went to 1 - 9 fps!!

Same thing with 11.10 driver. Game somewhat playable with 11.6, but far from enjoyable!!

With all tried configurations, the CPU load is 100% and before someone mentions about windows being messed up, the Windows 7 (32) was just re-installed to clean machine one week ago!

Resolution:

No additiional tweaks
CCC Settings:

AF: application
AI: Quality
Mipmap: High Quality
Vsync: Not Active-Application
AA Mode: Multi
Triple Buffering: No

11.9 Drivers:
I had wrong textures everywhere, almost 50%, popping, from time to time flashing NPCs and objects (vehicles...). I played the first missions, and the game (besides textures and flashings) was running well.
11.10 Drivers:
Constant CTD with MS error reports window at the end of intro movie (before entering the Arc).
I tried the multiplayer missions, and I was able to play the prison mission. The game was running well, but from the second section of the level, the enemies was starting to flickering. They was intermittent, they was looking alternatively in high frequence in different poses. And Im unable to restart the level. After Im died, the level doesnt restart and CTD with MS error reports window.

Hi there after my late last night report and video about buggy drivers and RAGE totally impossible to play with the new AMD Catalyst 11.10 Preview Driver V2 on this system:

Intel Core2Duo E6700
Sapphire ATI HD4850 1GB GDDR3
Asus P5B Deluxe WiFi AP-edition
4 GB Corsair DDR2-800
Samsung SataII 240 GB
Vista Enterprise SP2 32bit

Than following the main today suggestion from the RAGE developers:
Getting the best performance out of RAGE

Ad adding from steam launch options those commands once in time and with different solutions all time each away from the other with space as raccomanded

Screen Tearing
+r_swapInterval 1

Blurry Textures and Texture Popping
+vt_maxPPF 16
+vt_pageImageSizeUnique 8192
+vt_pageImageSizeUniqueDiffuseOnly 8192
+vt_pageImageSizeUniqueDiffuseOnly2 8192

Anisotropic Texture Filtering
+vt_maxAniso 4

My result is always the same: the game do not run properly and it runs with scattering each 5 seconds or 15 seconds...

Cross finger and hope for a bell to ring once in lifetime

i had 11.8 with no config adjustments running ok, with the occasional failure to load at transitions. But other then bad pop-in, it was ok. I did the new 11.10 install (following AMD's exact instructions) and disaster. Trying to load saves lead to an error or a crash. Turning on triple buffering in the CCC (it was otherwise default) and the game wouldn't even launch. I uninstalled 11.10 and reinstalled 11.8 and its no better now - crashes, horrible texture issues. I'm going to try and see if 11.9 helps, but this is getting absolutely absurd.

My menu doesnt look like that. For my Catalyst AI I can use the slider for "Texture Filtering Quality" with the options of "Performance" "Quality" or "HIgh Quality" and the box that can be checked is for "Enable Surface Format Optimization"

On page seven it was suggested that making sure my Catalyst AI was on would fix the blocky textures. The above is what I have for options in my AMD Vision Engine Control Center. I currently have it set to "High Quality" with a check in the "Enable Surface Format Optimization" box. When I load the game up, the game is still a grouping of mosaic boxes. Are my setting correct? Is it just a matter of waiting for a patch?

Anti Aliasing - Use app settings
Anisotropic Filtering - Use app settings
Tesselation - AMD Optimized
Minimap Detail - High Quality
Wait for Vertical Refresh - Always On
Anti-Aliasing Mode - Multi-sample AA
Open GL Settings - Tiple Buffering box IS checked

Did not help me at all. Game looks like this:

http://i.imgur.com/Iy5uz.jpg

Makes it run at a smooth framerate but it creates the "checkerboard" pattern of ugly textures.

Specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo E7400
4 gigs DDR2 ram
Radeon HD 4850 512mb
Windows 7 x64

First, my system:

Athlon X2 4200+
2 GB RAM
MSI K8N-NeoF motherboard
Radeon 4850 1 GB
Windows XP SP3
Catalyst 11.10 Preview Driver

With Catalyst AI enabled, there is no texture corruption, but the framerate is a slideshow. CPU usage is 100%. Strangely, Windows sets rage.exe priority to Low by default. With Catalyst AI disabled, the framerate becomes playable (25-45 FPS), but texture corruption appears. CPU usage drops to 50%. Texture popin is very bad. Textures start out at a very blurry low resolution and take 2 seconds to load in.

vt_maxppf was set to an insane value of 128 by default. By lowering it to 16, texture popin time is greatly reduced, but texture corruption remains. Increasing it to 32 removes all texture corruption, but popin becomes slower. CPU usage increases to 70-80%.

To sum up: the game becomes less problematic when Catalyst AI is disabled and vt_maxppf is set to 32. There is no texture corruption, but popin is still slow enough to be distracting.

So after the big fail with AMD Catalyst 11.10 Preview Driver (RAGE/BF3 Unified Driver) Version 2, I re-downloaded the latest available Sapphire official driver released on 29 Sept 2011 for my ATI Sapphire HD4580 1GB GDDR3 video card the driver are coming with this name 11-9_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_ocl_634529052189883155.

Was the same fail as before with latest AMD Catatalyst 11.10 V2...

So i tried to run the game at 800x600 but the issue was exactly the same with 11.10 V2 total scattering. I took other videos just to document terrible facts... Don't think I am going to show those as the shame is exactly the one with latest AMD Drivers.

I had a chance to try the 11.10 driver and so far it looks like all problems were completely fixed for me.

Wellsprings NPCs no longer flicker and no more floating/flickering weapons/bullets.

specs:
hp envy 15 laptop
i7-820QM 1.73GHz (3.06GHz turbo)
1GB AMD 5830m (running at stock clocks)
16GB DDR3 RAM
Dual Intel X18 G2 SSDs in Raid0
1920x1080 display

Steam launch options:
+cvaradd g_fov 20 +set com_skipIntroVideo 1 +set com_allowConsole 1 +fc_maxcachememoryMB 1024 +ik_enablesmoothing 0 +image_usecompression 0 +jobs_numthreads 4 +mem_phymemblocksizem 3072 +m_smooth 0 +m_rawinput 1

Rageconfig.cfg tweaks: None

Catalyst Control Center settings:
AA: use application settings
AF: use application settings
Tessellation: use application settings
Catalyst A.I.: "Advanced" mode
Mipmap Detail Level: Slider maxed at High Quality
Wait for vertical refresh: Always on
AA mode: Performance / Multi-sample AA

EDIT: history working with previous drivers is as follows -

11.9 driver: game did not launch (CTD on startup)

11.9 driver + Oct 3 hotfix: game launched fine, excellent frame rate, excellent appearance except for occasional and very brief artifacting in locations like Ghost hideout. The artifacting appeared as striated thin diagonal lines and did not affect gameplay very much as it was a rare occurance.

11.9 driver + Oct 4 Rage performance driver: no more striated line artifacts, however, in some areas I experienced phantom weapon parts or bullets floating in the air next to my gun. Also NPC flickering in Wellspring.

11.10 driver: fixed NPC flickering/floating bullets etc., and so far no other problems

Tried this and have a fair amount of texture pop-in of fast turns. Will toy with the Rageconfig, to bring it down to bare minimum.

Played the First Legends of the Wasteland mission and the enemies started to flicker like they did in the campaign and the frame rate still hitches from time to time, when new enemies load in, but overall is much better than before. Also if I turn on OpenGL Triple buffering, the game crashes on load.
Thanks for you efforts.

Update: Played some more and famerate takes a big hit when a large firefights start, it quickly recovers, but the chop is quite distracting.
