Dawnguard and Future DLC Discussion - Thread #21

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 9:59 am

I personally think the name Dawnguard is probably the name of some place far to the east (where the sun rises). And what is east of Skyrim? Our old stomping grounds!

Mainland Morrowind expansion wouldn't hurt my feelings in the least bit.

If Dawnguard is indeed vampire related, it'd also make sense considering that Morrowind has what people consider to be the best vampires yet.

Although, from what I know, vampires were only really in eastern Vvardenfell, so I don't know if they would be prevalent in mainland Morrowind.

well the mainland has an east
actually we have been there once before for the tribunal questline.

i hope for morrowind, but not vvardenfell. mainland would have alot of argonian influence, which is a plus :)

I'm hoping we actually get to travel back through war ravaged Cyrodill personally although i'm pretty sure that isn't going to happen. What i think may be the case though is a return of the snow elves and considering we have never actually seen a snow elf we don't completely know what they would look like just what the Falmer look like. The dragonborn for the dlc pre-release picture may not be a pure snow elf but perhaps a new kind of man/elf hybrid kind of like the Bretons but different enough to be a new race. I also think that the eyes are being emphasized in the picture which would make sense considering the falmer are blind in which dawn may very well mean illuminating the darkness or the blind made to see. Of course all of this is just speculation all I can guarantee is i'm excited for it!

Mainland has an east, certainly, but east mainland is not east Vvardenfell. Thus it wouldn't necessarily have the vampire infestation that east Vvardenfell is known for.

As far as what I would like to see from Dawnguard:

-Everything I've heard rumored thus far seems fine. Potential storylines involving Falmer and vampires is fine by me. My character would actually thrive greatly in a vampire focused story arc as well. Crossbows, while I don't want them persay, any additional weapon options are always welcome. I don't care about water combat, but again, anytime you're adding options, I won't complain.

I'd like:
-Spell combos like seen in the GameJam.
-Additional spell effects, notably many of the removed ones like Summon spells, Bound spells, and Command spells.
-New locations - Tribunal and Bloodmoon were completely different areas away from Vvardenfell, Shivering Isles was an entirely new area away from Cyrodiil, I would like new areas that aren't Skyrim's mainlain. Whether that goes into Hammerfell, High Rock, Morrowind, or some other area, I want a non-Skyrim area we can go to. I'm sure this won't be a problem.
-I mentioned GameJam spell combos, in all honesty, I'd like to see many of the things seen in that video, though not necessarily everything. But notably, Spell combos, house building, spears (only because it is more options, not because I think the game is suffering for a lack of spears), enemies relighting areas, the dungeon enhancements, follower favorites, adoption, mounted combat, graphics upgrades... the only thing from the GameJam I really wouldn't want would be the skeleton butler and the giant mudcrab.
-New factions would be cool too.

My money is on Vampires, suspected it before the announcement and the new information that has been dug up after the announcement only goes to further support the theory.

My guess would be that the DLC will be centered around a new joinable faction of Vampire hunters called the Dawnguard, not terribly original I know but it does seem to be the obvious choice.

Am I the only one who could care less about vampires and werewolves?

Well then I guess you can at least take solace in the fact that the DLC probably wont be about Werewolves.

First, forgive my ignorance but does Bethesda only provide a one DLC per game (I believe they changed the expansion thing for a one DLC or several, and yes this is my first TES game) and if that is the case I think it would be more appropriate to follow up on the Thalmor struggle. Alduin has been defeated, as you would expect so what more about dragons can we get without pushing the envelope? And vampires are not really of much relevance to the overall issues in current Skyrim, in my opinion that is. So why not unite the Empire and Stormcloaks with Dovahkiin as the leader figure? I would find it highly attractive to see an all-out struggle between the factions and the fate of Tamriel in jeopardy. I think going more into detail on the Dwemer and Falmer would fit nicely as a secondary storyline but I don't see it carrying the potential you would want for such a great game. Maybe the Empire or the Dominion declaring war to one another would be a great first step to introduce events of higher magnitude.

Bethesda does not typically have just one DLC, no.

Before DLC, Morrowind had 2 expansions, Tribunal and Bloodmoon.

Oblivion had a DLC set; Knights of the Nine, as well as a full on expansion; Shivering Isles.

Fallout 3 had 5 different DLC's; Operation: Anchorage, The Pitt, Broken Steel, Point Lookout, and Mothership Zeta.

Unless this DLC comes out a week after E3, its going to be hard for me to come back to Skyrim after such a long period of time. I wonder what this says about future dlc release times too?

DLC for Skyrim should take the player to "Hammerfell" or "Summerset Isle"!

I don't think they'll add any of the provinces in, it would be a bit too much.

Crossbows have kind of a Vampire Hunter / Van Helsing vibe to them. I don't how the Snow Prince is connected to all of this. I'm guessing the story has something to do with the Volkihar, perhaps the Snow Prince has become their big daddy. The best thing I can imagine is that the DLC takes place on Solstheim and we have two questlines one about the ascension of the Snow Prince and another about the Volkihar.

That would be a mistake. Let all the provinces have their own stand alone game. Summerset Isles is not dlc material, it's too interesting on its own.

Well what with Morrowind only taking place on Vvardenfell I could see them making a game that explores more of Morrowind, especially given the communities affection with the game. Maybe half of the rest of the island from Blacklight and all the way down to and including Narsis.

That said I'm hoping for a deadric realm, but as long as it's pretty and packed full of content I'm easy to please

Summer? But why, Bethesda? Can't you start the 360 obvious beta test now so that PS3 and PC users can enjoy it next month? :(

That seems like a really odd place to announce it.
