We just finished watching season 1 last night. It was awesome. I will be buying the books. But I'm going to wait until I finish the new Dark Tower book which comes out next month, because I don't want to get into the series and then have to stop to read Dark Tower.

We don't have HBO so it stinks that we'll have to wait a whole year for season 2 on blu ray.

You will enjoy the books. As you know the series isn't a generic good vs. evil story and Westeros is an amazing place. So many interesting characters. Book 4 is the one I'm skeptical about but a 3.5/5 isn't bad rating.

Too bad a Feast for Crows is the red headed stepchild of a Song of Ice and Fire. But I think if it was its own book and not compared to the rest of the series, it would be praised more. It's like the Skyrim of TES.

You know it's impossible since every book explains cliffhangers of the previous books than throw out suspensions of its own, which FFC did really poorly on the latter.

Yea you're right. I also think some people don't like it because Tyrion, Jon and Dany aren't in it. Plus, it took a while to be released. But I've yet to read it. I could totally hate it.

I think so. Those three happen to be my favourite characters (and apparently those of a substantial part of the internet as well :P). I didn't think FFC was bad at all, I just don't give a damn about Brienne. Jaime is awesome though, so that kind of makes up for it.

I really hate the Greyjoys for what they did to the Starks but they really are growing on me. That line "What is dead may never die, but rises again harder and stronger" is really stuck in my head.

I like the Greyjoys too. Victarion can be hard work because he's so humourless and takes himself so seriously. It does get a bit much when he just keeps on throwing people overboard for smiling at him in DWD.

Victarion is rather eccentric, though.

Spoiler
When he frees the "perfumed boys" and the "women trained in the of the way of the seven sighs". He even frees the slaves to offer them a service in the Iron Fleet as rowers.

So I just finished the chapter in DWD where....
Spoiler
Jon [censored] dies!!! I nearly cried on the train. I was expecting it, after all of Mellisandre's warnings, but still!

Sad it's nearly over! :(

He's such a bastard, but there's no doubt he gets [censored] done. I can't help but like him.

What made ADWD for me, besides Drogon, is Manderley's arc. OMFG.

Stannis's issue is that he doesn't want to be king. He's only pursuing it because he feels that it's his duty and because Melisandre and Selyse are driving him on. If he wasn't so honourable he wouldn't be going after the throne at all. And we all saw how honour turned out of Ned and Rhaegar. Someone with Stannis's type of motivation isn't fit to sit the Iron Throne.

Then who is fit for the Iron Throne? Obviously not the Lannisters. Stannis is different than Ned in that he will do whatever it takes it to get what he wants. Plus, if it's the rule that he should have the throne after the king dies, then it his by rights. He's not an evil bastard either.

FFC is still a lot better than most novels you find in the market. It's just comparatively bad among the series. Brienne the character was fine, but the story arc for her was badly done. Jamie was well done, but Cercei was horrible, well she did well to make us love Jamie though.

Stannis is going to be very interesting I think. The way GRRM writes things, I speculate Stannis will fail horribly and then gone so desperate, he sounded the horn to take back the Seven Kingdoms with the Others, which also let to his own demise.

Has anyone read the Dunk and Egg novellas by Martin? I heard they're well written. The stories take place before all the chaos in ASOIAF series.

I like the Dunk and Egg novellas a lot. Martin says he intends to write more. I asked him at a book signing. They are also going to come out in graphic novel form once he gets the next one done.

I think there are 3 of them out now. Between book 3 and 4 of ASOIAF I'm going to read the first one. :)

Yes, there are three. They all appear in different anthologies right now, so it will be nice when they're compiled. The Warriors anthology is pretty good apart from GRRM's story, though. The 4th one is supposed to be set in Winterfell.

ADWD spoiler...

Spoiler
Bran gets a vision of a tall man kissing a woman in the weirwood in Winterfell. Lots of people think it's Dunk and Old Nan. *hummida hummida*
