So let me get this straight we can get married in game and can raise a family by adopting? How does Beth go about explaining why the in game characters can not procreate themselves? :P

I'm curious- if Bethesda had announced Hearthfire by also announcing a third, Dawnguard-size (or Shivering Isles size) DLC at the same time (with a release date in, say, November or December), would any of the people who feel that "smaller DLCs are the wrong direction for Bethesda" and so on feel better about it?

Because that's basically what this is, only they didn't formally announce it like that.

Odd question, but are there any assets in this dlc that arnt in the base game? As it stands if your on a pc there are mods that allow you to put down a house *anywhere* you want, and mods that allow adoption.

So the only selling point for me is if it adds new content. Additional dialog from a spouse or adopted child? Do the housing bits contain new things? Does it allow me to create a house to fit my character? Thralls for feeding on, a few black hand banners (or other guild) affiliation items? Statues to your patron deity? (No playing in the house hold or you can explain yourself to the statue of nocturnal.)

Everyone was so hyped at the prospect of a new dlc they were disappointed that Hearthfire was a little expansion pack not a quest line but if they had just announced it just after they copyrighted it we would be happy fir it to exist not disappointed with what it could have been

It has short doors. :teehee:

please be elf children please be elf children...
You know that the ONLY races the children will be are Bretons, Imperials, Nords and Redguards, just like in vanilla.  That said, I hope they eventually add in the missing child races as well as the missing race and gender marriage options. It would be weird if you and your spouse were elves or Argonians or Khajiit, yet your children are humans, which I have no problem with per say, but considering that the theme is immersion and roleplaying, it would feel to me that there's something missing, and that they will probably receive a bit of flak, like when the beast races didn't get the glowing eyes in Dawnguard, for example.

I must say, though, that I definitely did not see this DLC coming, that much is for sure. Not that it's a bad thing, at least in my opinion.

Honestly, for the pittance they're charging this is fine. I think this probably started as a patch-in content being done by one or two guys, but then they decided to expand it a bit and add in some dialogue (expensive), so they decided to elevate it to minor DLC status. This also avoids exclusivity for the 3rd DLC, which (hopefully) the main team is doing atm, and they thought they'd throw this in. I'd keep on the lookout for new trademarks.

You know, given this kind of money buys me a decent sandwich, I think I'll probably get this in the end cause, hey, it's nice to have your own custom house rather than a pre-made one. Kinda like choosing the location of a Factor's estate in Bloodmoon, but more. The adoption I don't really care about but hey, it's there for those that want it.

GStaff confirmed it was by a smaller team, so it's not distracting Bethesda from other things.

I have to admit, this DLC reminds of the whole Raven Rock thing in Bloodmoon.

Been looking at the trailer, noticed a few things:

1. The carriage locations include villages such as Dragonbridge, Darkwater Crossing, Ivarstead, Karthwasten, Kynesgrove, etc., places that aren't currently served by carriage.
2. You get a beehive to harvest. Hive looks like the ones at Goldenglow Estate.
3. Shrine room, which has all the shrines.
4. (Probably already mentioned) Trophy room, just like the stuffed trophies at the Castle in Oblivion.
5. Noticed in the fish list, "salmon roe". Not something I've seen before, and it's not in any of the game wikis.
6. New items such as straw, iron fittings, nails, etc, for the house.
7. The two kids in the trailer you can adopt are Lucia (not in the game wikis, must be new) and Gralnach (from Heartwood mill, near Riften).

There's probably many more details I haven't caught, but it's hard to do a frame-by-frame anolysis on Youtube.

Geez, do people complain a lot. Beth has already said they wanted to do some smaller stuff, in-between the large content. They have already said that this DLC was done by a small team, and larger DLC will still be coming. This looks to be a fantastic little piece of content that is great for consoles gamers and PC gamers...

Modders are great, but they have limitations, this DLC will no doubt open doors for modders to do more stuff with official Beth content... and I'm sorry but personally I would take official Beth content over a modders any day.

It's $5.

LOL im sure all the kids are looking forward to being adopted by Vampire Lords!.

im not complaining, it means the exclusivity deal is finished and future DLC's will be released at the same time or PC, (not sure about PS3 users)

No kidding? Could you provide a link for the next big dlc in Dec, please? You've got me curious now. :)

Speaking of modders, why hasn't anyone done a mod yet that adds real elven and beast children, anyway? I think there might have been one on the Skyrim Nexus, but it got banned because of, well let's just say poor execution from the looks of it. Part of it may have been the fact that it made children playable as well, which probably isn't allowed on the Nexus. If there's any other reason besides that, I don't want to know. :yuck:

Mmmm, nope. He actually said "that's basically what they did". Which I can't see how that's basically what they did. The came along and released a small dlc. While I admit is great for consoles, it's still a little nerve wracking because call it what you will... it stinks of horse armor. Especially when you follow the hype from Howard about dlcs for Skyrim.

Yup, more coming. I had optimism at one time. Today was a disappointment though. I probably fell for some of the speculations about how big Hearthfire would be. There's also some disappointment for the PS3 crew. All the jokes about Hearthfire coming out for Xbox before they even get Dawnguard.

But as I always say.. I still love my :tes: .. it's just a little raw right now.

I'm sorry, but I fail to see how this is like the horse armor, which basically did nothing. Your getting multiple NEW features for $5, and good amount of content. It's apples to oranges. Only thing that is comparable is that it's small and cheap. Which doesn't mean it will be bad.

Can't believe the next DLC is already here. Pretty small though, I hope the 3rd will be like Dawnguard, with a story and stuff, just a bit bigger.

I can't wait to build my own house, I don't know the limitations, so I am not exactly sure on what I will do. Extremely cheap so I am definitely buying.

Now, lets talk about customization. How much customization are we talking about? Can a build the dark tower on a mountain and a warm cabin in the woods? Or just a house somewhere up in the Pale? Details, baby.

Are we allowed to infect anyone else? I thought we couldn't do that unless I have missed something. If we can infect other people, then I doubt Bethesda would let us infect children with Lycanthropy.

It looks like a major improvement over horse armor DLC. A lot of content for $5 there. Just wish they would release it on PC with the Xbox 360!!
