I'm not sure I get the dung beetle thing. Are you trying to say because they all eat crap that it must be good? If you were to ask dung beetles whether they think crap is good what do you think they would say? Yes..because they're dung beetles, they exist to live in crap..bad comparison. As for Justin Beiber, yes he is popular.. so many people think he is good, I'm not sure what your point is there.
I agree that GRID was underrated though.
Finally another Grid fan.
My point with the dung beetle reference isn't supposed to be taken literally, it's a metaphor. Just because a large amount of people do something doesn't mean everyone should do it.
My point about Beiber is because most children like him because they are either too young to have heard any other genre of music, are girls who think he's hot or are simply following the trend. Whereas the ones who genuinely love music in itself and don't particularly care about the visual aspect recognize his songs as the unimaginative, cliched, poorly written crap it is.
My overall point is that something being popular and something being good are entirely different subjects because popularity mostly depends on how well and how widely its advertised, whereas how good something is depends partly on the game, artist, movie, etc and partly on the perspective of the person who views it. Justin Beiber is very popular, but there are still a lot of people who think his music is crap. Die mannequin is not nearly as well known, but they are one of my favourite bands ever. They can definitely overlap like with Metallica or ACDC and this simply proves how separate these concepts are.
This has, of course, been all written from my perspective as an example. Metallica and ACDC are both very popular and are both genuinely good bands from my perspective. You might find different artists/movies/books that appeal more to you, but the concepts of how good something is and how popular something is barely affects each other at all.
