PATCH IS OUT !

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 10:49 am

Have you not been following this lag issue for the last 2+ weeks? This is probably one of the biggest blunders in gaming history, and biggest publicized issue Bethesda has ever had to deal with, it doesn't matter if patches happen all the time. I, and many others think it's fair they apologize for such a huge blunder, and for causing fans of the series who own PS3 copies so much frustration and headaches. That is of course if the patch does fix it, if not I suggest Bethesda start recalling the game immediately.

One of the biggest blunders in gaming history? LOL. Wow, talk about massive overreaction.

do you guys reckon it is better to restart and make a new save file?

i mean most ppl here said that the main cause of the lag is because of the large save file.even if the patch makes the game runs better but if you already got a huge save file, wouldnt it be a problem? maybe they did something in the this patch which will make your save file wont grow too large but i reckon it wont work if you already got a large save file before the patch.

Hi all,

UK gamer with slim PS3 and 10MB save file, I can confirm it has fixed the framerate issues.

I turned into a werewolf and went on a rampage in Whiterun holding L2 all the time. No problems.

Although it did freeze for a few seconds when the wolf biting animation played but it's perfect now. My game works!

My save file shrunk after downloading the patch....make of that what you will, personally I intend to make a new character so I can play uninterrupted, but for the moment I will continue to play this character just to make sure the lag has indeed been fixed.

Edit: Save size was: 8852kb now it is 8000kb (dropped below 8mb but i have been playing so it has reach 8mb again)

The games ability to cache the data effectively is what the patch is doing (Basically) so the save file size isn't an issue, or shouldn't be as long as the patch hasn't simply hidden the problem for a while longer.

If toned down textures is the price to pay for a more stable gameplay then bring it on. I've a 15mb save and so far I've noticed a lot more stability. I even visited the areas in my game that were lag hot stops like Riften when the whole town goes after a thieve and even though the framerate still drops it only lasts a few seconds and its more consistant. Also I've noticed menus respond a liitle faster. Before the game would freeze for a second or two before opening menus but now it loads a bit quick. Will post more changes when I find them. I'm off to see if I can buy a house in windhelm now.

You could shrink your own file by saving in a small area, resting then saving again so to an extent this could still be the case but after thinking about it, the patch may have flushed some corpses and addressed other refresh issues so will indeed shrink your file size when installed.

After I patch I will have to go visit my old bandit friend that I killed on day 1 and is still there 42 game days later, I do hope he is gone. :)

Seems to lag less for me too now with a 8mb save file size. However, I had a game freeze while trying to access the save game menu after patching - FAIL! My save game got corrupted, glad I play with 2 save games.

Didn't notice any difference with texture though - but overall, still performance at some dungeons and situations causes laggy controls. I wish I could disable VSync somehow, i prefer responsive controls over tearing visuals any day.

There is NO Change in the textures ffs, people are getting paranoid because they are noticing better FPS, so they are thinking there must be a reason, oh I know they lowered the texture resolution! I wasn't getting too many issue before because my saved game is only 6MB but now its even smoother through areas that before were laggy!

Maybe this will quieten down the "OMG The PS3 Version SUXORZZZ tha Big 1" threads !

one...just one guy said something about the textures and he actually contradicted himself (he said the textures look like xbox360 version now, which were sharper than the ps3 version to beggin with...) and now everyone is taking it for granted...

teh internets....

It's times like these that I hate being a night owl. Waiting hours for the patch to hit the US. Plus, from what I'm reading on these forums, it seems the lag has barely changed. Oh well, seventeen and need to start looking for work any way. Skyrim would have kept me from doing so. <_<

One way or another, you'll be forced to download it sooner or later. That's Sony's policy of always shoving patches down your throat.

Your FOS there is NO difference in FOV pop ins OR textures you are just getting all paranoid because your framerates have improved, I haven't noticed ANY differences!

Btw even b4 the patch there were times when textures wouldn't load properly but you would come back and they would be fine, this has nothing to do with the patch!

People get so pannicky.... Show me the difference B4 the patch and after and maybe I will give you some credit, otherwise, shhhhhh your scaring the children!

hmmmmm after playing with the patch for a couple of hours now i'm going to alter my initial statement which said "lag was fixed" to "lag has been improved"

It's definitely still there in some form but nothing like what it was before. For now it's perfectly playable so I'm happy.

Also just to back up other claims my save file dropped by about 1mb after the patch was installed.
